Abstract

General chemistry is a subject that being studied in almost every science course. The subject is closely related to the environment, so it will be very easy to learn when involve examples in everyday life. The Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach is an approach that links the learning materials with the real-world environment. This research was conducted by using a CTL approach in a general chemistry subject which is one of the compulsory subjects in Biology Education Program of Tarbiyah Faculty UIN Ar-Raniry. The aim of this study was to determine the increase of student learning activities after using the CTL approach to general chemistry lecturing activities. The design of this study used action classroom research. This study was conducted to the first semester students. The student amount was 31 students. The instrument used was an observation sheet of learning activity. The results was obtained that the activities of the student during the learning process in the first cycle reached 70% and increased to 90% in cycle II. This proves that the application of CTL approach can increase the learning student’s activity of Biology Education Studies in general chemistry courses.

Abstract

Research on the development of virtual books on geometri molecular form materials at MAS Ulumuddin Lhokseumawe, was motivated by the limited use of instructional media in learning process. The learning media used are reading books and LKPD, chemistry learning is also often considered difficult because generally the geometry molecular material is abstract and requires high imagination to understand it. Virtual books are media with animation in the form of software that can be accessed or opened via computers and laptops. The media is equipped with covers, instructions user, concept maps, materials, 3D molecular shapes and quizzes. The purpose of this study was to determine the development of a virtual book on molecular form materials using the development research method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data collection techniques are validation sheets and response questionnaires. Based on the results of validation I 83.2%, validator II 92.8% and validator III 89.6%, the average score of expert validators from the expert validation sheet is 88.53% with very good criteria of virtual book. Based on the data from the implementetion results involving 16 students as respondents, an average percentage of 92.18% was obtained, so it can be concluded that the students responses to the virtual book media were very interesting.

Abstract

Conceptual understanding of chemistry requires the ability to represent and interpret the problems of chemicals in a form that is easy to understand. One way that allows students to learn chemistry is to implement effective learning activities. This research was conducted in SMA Negeri 11 Banda Aceh. One of the schools with a homogeneous class management systems based on the same gender. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning process for the chemical held in a homogeneous class. Definition of homogeneous classes of this research is the class that is populated by students collectively have the same gender. Observations obtained is the percentage of teachers' activities with a percentage of 71.42% of activities, which means that activities of teachers in the classroom in both categories (51% - 80%). Results of student feedback through a questionnaire, obtained only 32% of students from a total of 88 students who find it easy to understand the chemistry lesson taught over the years, while the remaining amount to 68% of students still find it difficult to understand the chemistry lesson. Chemistry learning in homogeneous classes requires readiness of teachers, both in the preparation of learning tools and also the ability of teachers to manage the classroom, so that learning can be effective.

Abstract

Based on observations at SMAN 1 Baitussalam, information was obtained that learning outcomes of students on acid-base material were still low, this was caused by the process of learning chemistry that was still teacher-centered and didn’t use specific learning models. The STEM learning model is a One learning model that can be used as  solution to this problem is the learning model of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the effect of the STEM learning model on learning outcomes and student responses, especially on the concept of acid-base in SMAN 1 Baitussalam. This study uses Quasi Experimental design, with data collected through test and questionnaires. Student test results were analyzed using SPSS Version 23.0, where the significance value obtained from the t-test analysis was 0,000<0.05 so it can be seen that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Student responses obtained through questionnaires analyzed based on the percentage answers provided by students, the results showed that 93% responses of students were very interested in the STEM learning model. These results indicate that STEM learning model is effective in improving student learning outcomes in SMAN 1 Baitussalam, especially in acid-base concept.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Media pembelajaran merupakan alat, metode, dan teknik yang dapat digunakan dalam rangka mengefektifkan komunikasi dan interaksi antara guru dan peserta didik dalam proses pendidikan dan pembelajaran di sekolah. Berdasarkan hasil observasi di salah satu sekolah yang melaksanakan pembelajaran secara daring pada masa pandemi Covid-19 diperoleh informasi bahwa penggunaan media pembelajaran secara daring sangat dibutuhkan dalam mendukung proses belajar mengajar secara daring, salah satunya adalah pada mata pelajaran kimia. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengembangan media geometri molekul menggunakan macromedia flash sebagai solusi media pembelajaran kimia secara daring di masa pandemi Covid-19. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan atau Research and Development (R&D). Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah lembar validasi dan lembar angket. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan lembar validasi dan penyebaran angket respon. Berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan diperoleh informasi bahwa media pembelajaran daring pada materi geometri molekul sangat dibutuhkan untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran secara daring. Hasil validasasi berupa skor persentase validasi yang diperoleh dari validator ahli media yaitu 71,66%, sedangkan hasil persentase validator materi dan bahasa diperoleh 80%. Kedua hasil tersebut menunjukkan kriteria media tersebut layak digunakan dengan revisi minor. Hasil respon guru yang melibatkan 5 orang guru diperoleh skor persentase angket sebesar 85% dengan kriteria baik. Sedangkan hasil respon peserta didik diperoleh skor persentase angket sebesar 90% dengan kriteria sangat baik.ABSTRACT Learning media are tools, methods, and techniques that can be used in order to streamline communication and interaction between teachers and students in the education and learning process in schools. Based on the results of observations in one of the schools that carried out online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic, information was obtained that the use of online learning media was needed to support the online teaching and learning process, one of which was in chemistry subjects. The purpose of this study was to find out how to develop molecular geometry media using macromedia flash as a solution for online chemistry learning media during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research design used is Research and Development (R&D). The instruments used in this study were validation sheets and questionnaire sheets. Data was collected by using validation sheets and distributing response questionnaires. Based on the results of the need’s analysis, information is obtained that online learning media on molecular geometry material is needed to support the online learning process. The validation results are in the form of a validation percentage score obtained from media expert validators, namely 71.66%, while the percentage results of material and language validators are 80%. The two results indicate that the media criteria are suitable for use with minor revisions. The results of the teacher's response involving 5 teachers obtained a questionnaire percentage score of 85% with good criteria. While the results of student responses obtained a questionnaire percentage score of 90% with very good criteria.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the chemistry learning process by using online methods, the challenges and the advantages of using media in learning chemistry. This research was conducted at several high schools in Aceh with a sample of 70 people, of which consist 60 students and 10 teachers. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that in the time of the pandemic, the use of media online  has signigficanntly increased, but about  35.3% of the respondents mentioned that the use of  media online for teaching chemistry  is not very effective. However, the advantages of using media online in teaching chemistry during the  pandemic Covid-19 are to help avoid the spreading of the virus Covid-19.
