Abstract

Wild species of begonia existed in remnant forest of Cibodas Botanic Gardens, but their diversity, distribution and ecological preference were not much known. Data of condition and habitat characteristic of wild begonia are important in their cultivation. The aims of this study are to inventory the diversity of wild begonias and their distribution habitat preference in remnant forest of Cibodas Botanic Gardens. Sample were collected from four remnant forest using exploration method. Analysis of vegetation where wild Begonia existed was conducted using 1x1 m plot in around every individu of Begonia found. The principle component analysis (PCA) was carried out using R program version 2.11.0. The result showed that 50% of the mountain Begonia in West Java can be found in remnat forest area. The light intencity, soil humidity and air humidity were highly correlated to distribution of wild Begonia. The microclimate conditions in remnant forest area are appropriate with habitat of Begonia.

Abstract

Dendrobium sp. is one of the natural orchids in Indonesia. Optimization of media composition for in vitro orchid propagation is needed the multiplication ability and seed quality. The role of PGR in in vitro propagation of orchid plays role in triggering cell division, initiation, shoot growth, and the development of photomorphogenesis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of BAP and coconut water on the multiplication of Dendrobium sp. var kumalaorchids, and to determine the optimum concentration of BAP and coconut water on the multiplication of Dendrobium sp. var Kumala. This research was conducted with a single factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatment tested was the addition of BAP into MS0 media with 3 concentration levels (0,5; 1; 1,5 ppm), combined with 3 concentration levelsof coconut water (100; 150; 200 ml/l), and MS0 medium without the addition of BAP and coconut water (control). Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that there is an effect of BAP concentration and coconut water on the multiplication of Dendrobium sp. var kumalaorchids. The composition of the media with a concentration of 1 ppm BAP combined with 100-150 ml/l coconut water showed optimal results in increasing the number and length of leaves, namely 1,467 ± 0,416 leaves and 0,142 ± 0,036 cm. In contrast to the emergence of orchid leaves, the highest yield was found in 0,5 ppm BAP treatment media combine with 200 ml/l coconut water, with the beginning of the emergence of new leaves occuring at 4 ± 1 DAI. The BAP treatment of 1,5 ppm combined with 200 ml/l coconut water resulted in a higher number of roots, namely 1,22 ± 1,349 pieces.

Abstract

Miana plants (Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth.) are ornamental plants with physical characteristics of leaves that have a variety of colors and are abundant in nature. The purpose of this service is to analyze the content of miana leaves, apply the benefits of miana leaves for the community, and collect data and information from various literary sources as a reference for the community regarding the various benefits of miana leaves so that the public knows about them. The method used is preparation by conducting literature studies, collecting and analyzing data from several writings that discuss the benefits of miana leaves which are reviewed based on their phytochemical substances and pharmacological activities as well as providing information to the public, and direct assistance to the community. Based on the results of the analysis, miana leaves contain several compounds which include anthocyanins and compounds that have pharmacological activity as antimicrobials such as flavonoids, essential oils, saponins, and many other compounds. The dedication that has been carried out shows that the assistance has been successful, seeing that miana leaves are a solution for the community, including being used as a natural dye in the food sector, an additive in cosmetic products, as well as being a medicine for more than one disease.
