Abstract

Abstract. Neo-Sufism, as a revitalized form of classical Sufism, offers a profound ethical and spiritual foundation that significantly enriches social welfare practices in Indonesia. This study aims to construct a theoretical framework that integrates Neo-Sufi values—such as compassion, justice, and spiritual devotion—into Muslim social work practice. Employing a qualitative literature review method, data were collected from credible academic sources indexed by Scopus and Web of Science and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that Neo-Sufism enhances social welfare practice by providing an ethical foundation, fostering community empowerment, strengthening personal resilience among social workers, and enriching social work education curricula. These results suggest that integrating Neo-Sufi values can significantly strengthen both the professionalism and spiritual development of Muslim social workers in Indonesia, while promoting a more holistic approach to community welfare. Keyword: Neo-Sufism, Social Welfare, Muslim Social Work, Spiritual Ethics, Community Empowerment. Abstrak. Abstract

This study aims to investigate the integration of Neo-Sufi values into the Social Welfare Education curriculum in Indonesian Islamic universities. The focus of the study includes the relevance of the Neo-Sufi ethical-spiritual framework to graduate competencies, as well as an analysis of curriculum documents, conceptual models, and academic discourse. The research employs a qualitative method with a systematic literature review design, drawing from indexed scientific articles, academic regulations, and curriculum syllabi from three state Islamic universities. The findings indicate that values such as empathy, justice, sincerity, and social service are implicitly present but are not yet systematically structured within the curriculum design. No operational pedagogical model was found that explicitly references Neo-Sufism. The main conclusion asserts that the integration of Neo-Sufism into the curriculum represents a transformative opportunity to develop graduates who are not only professionally competent but also spiritually grounded. Future curriculum development should include explicit modules and pedagogical strategies rooted in Sufi values.

Abstract

In contemporary Indonesia, Neo-Sufism has emerged as a significant paradigm for Islamic social da'wah, particularly in response to growing spiritual disorientation, religious radicalism, and socio-cultural fragmentation in urban contexts. This research explores how institutionalized Sufi orders, especially those rooted in traditional tarekat such as TQN is redefining their spiritual missions through transformative, socially-engaged practices. Using a qualitative library-based methodology, the study analyzes primary and secondary texts to trace how core Sufi values—such as ikhlas (sincerity), sabr (patience), and zuhd (asceticism)—are applied within modern da'wah strategies. Rather than functioning as apolitical or inward-facing traditions, these Sufi orders have implemented socially responsive initiatives including pesantren-based empowerment, Sufi clinics, and ethical microeconomics. The findings challenge stereotypes of Sufism as detached from social realities and instead position Neo-Sufism as a framework for moral reform and community development. This rearticulation of Sufism not only addresses urban spiritual crises but also contributes a sustainable and values-based model of religious engagement. To ensure continued relevance, the study recommends strengthening urban Sufi literacy and institutional collaboration among tarekat networks.

Abstract

This article discusses the transformation of the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah (TQN) Suryalaya Order as a form of neo-Sufism that transformed into a development ethic in the New Order era. Under the charismatic leadership of Sheikh Ahmad Shohibul Wafa Tajul Arifin (Abah Anom), this order displays a dynamic face of Sufism, not only focusing on individual spirituality, but also actively responding to social and national issues. This study uses a literature study approach by critically examining various primary and secondary sources in the form of author dissertations, academic books, and reputable scientific journal articles. The main findings show that through collective rituals, character education, and ethical political positions, TQN Suryalaya acts as an agent of social and moral transformation. Abah Anom's inclusive leadership model and participatory spiritual practices make this order relevant in the context of modern development. This study emphasizes the importance of the order as an agent of spiritual and social development in facing ethical crises, modern disorientation, and post-reform national challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate and develop a new conceptual framework called sufipreneurship, as a response to the spiritual void within contemporary Islamic entrepreneurship models. By integrating a conceptual-philosophical approach and Sufi hermeneutics, sufipreneurship offers an entrepreneurial paradigm that incorporates core Sufi values—ikhlas (sincerity), zuhud (asceticism), tawakkul (trust in God), khidmah (service), and muraqabah (divine awareness)—into business practices that are spiritual, social, and ethical in nature. This concept not only expands the epistemology of Islamic entrepreneurship but also provides a normative critique of the secular capitalist model, which desacralizes the meaning of work and reduces it to mere profit maximization. The study employs a literature-based research method combined with data triangulation from classical and contemporary sources, along with field observations from Sufi communities (ṭarīqa). The findings suggest that sufipreneurship presents a relevant and practical alternative for addressing the ethical and spiritual crises within the Muslim business world. The implications of this research include the development of a Sufi-based entrepreneurship curriculum, policy recommendations for spiritually grounded Islamic economic empowerment programs, and strategic collaborations between religious institutions (ṭarīqa) and Islamic economic sectors. Hence, sufipreneurship offers a business framework that is maṣlaḥah-oriented, sustainable, and deeply rooted in Islamic spirituality. Abstract

Despite numerous welfare programs, poverty and inequality persist in Indonesia. Islamic philanthropic instruments such as Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah (ZIS) hold great potential to complement state efforts. However, their effectiveness is hindered by fragmented governance, low public trust, and the underutilization of professional social workers. This study aims to conceptualize an integrative model for optimizing ZIS by aligning Islamic values, public policy frameworks, and social work practices. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through a thematic literature review, this study analyzed academic publications, legal documents, and institutional reports. Findings propose a triadic synergy model comprising Islamic ethical principles, a supportive regulatory environment, and professional social work engagement to enhance inclusive and accountable ZIS governance. The model underscores the importance of distributive justice and sustainable empowerment for marginalized communities. This conceptual framework offers a foundation for developing Islamic social policy and invites empirical validation across diverse regions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of Sufistic da'wah and Islamic spiritual psychotherapy through the practice of online manaqib in the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah (TQN) Tarekat community in Indonesia. This adaptation emerged in response to geographical and time constraints in traditional spiritual gatherings. Through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and digital documentation analysis, this study analyzes the spiritual and therapeutic impact of online manaqib. The results demonstrate that this practice upholds the core values of Sufi spirituality while expanding the reach of da'wah through digital platforms, such as Zoom. Virtual interaction between the murshid and the disciple fosters a meaningful spiritual connection, even in the absence of physical presence. Additionally, online manaqib serve as a therapeutic medium that promotes inner peace and spiritual resilience. This study presents an integrative model for technology-based spiritual guidance services, which is particularly relevant for urban communities in the digital and post-pandemic era.
