Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Dutch propaganda film Peoples of the Indies. The Dutch East Indies experienced a difficult period during the 1930s. The economic turbulence had an impact on political movements in the Dutch East Indies. Japanese propaganda was getting more and more alluring at that time. The Dutch saw Japan as a threat in the late 1930s. Therefore, the Dutch needed to ask the United States for public support to protect the Dutch East Indies. A propaganda film entitled Peoples of the Indies was made. This research will examine (1) the reasons why the Peoples of the Indies film needs to be made; (2) the multimodality of the Peoples of the Indies film; (3) the influence of the Peoples of the Indies film in the Dutch East Indies. This study uses the historical method with a multimodality approach. The results showed that the propaganda film, Peoples of the Indies, needed to counter Japanese propaganda. In multimodality, this film built on the discourse of democracy and multiculturalism in their colonies. The influence of the film on the colony was completely absent. The film's failure was because the Dutch ignored the importance of Indonesian public support to only target the United States and its allies. Meanwhile, the Indonesian public was already influenced by Japanese propaganda, even before the country succeeded in defeating ABDACOM and the Dutch East Indies Government. The Javanese also welcomed the arrival of Japan openly.

Abstract

The increasing population has led to excessive exploitation of natural resources, particularly through forest exploration, which serves as an environmental buffer. As a result, the risk of natural disasters, such as floods, has risen in several regions of East Java, especially in Kediri and Tulungagung. High rainfall and ecosystem changes due to human activities have worsened the situation, causing flash floods that damage infrastructure and residential areas. Both local and central governments have implemented various mitigation efforts, including direct inspections, aid distribution, and transmigration programs. However, long-term solutions require a more comprehensive approach, encompassing environmental conservation and sustainable spatial planning policies. One significant flood event occurred in Pucangan Village, Tulungagung Regency, which resulted in numerous casualties and environmental destruction. Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul Inovasi Media Pembelajaran Berbasis Komik untukMenunjang Ketrampilan dan Pemahaman Sejarah pada Mahasiswa. Mediapembelajaran dalam bentuk komik dianggap menarik untuk menunjangpembelajaran sejarah karena karakteristik komik yang penuh dengan gambargambar. Media pembelajaran komik tetap mengutamakan cerita sejarah yangberpedoman pada fakta-fakta sejarah yang sudah ada. Penelitian ini bertujuanuntuk mengungkap (1) Bagaimana mengembangkan media pembelajaran sejarahberbasis komik (2) Bagaimana meningkatkan ketrampilan mahasiswa dalammenghasilkan media pembelajaran berbasis komik (3) Bagaimana meningkatkanpemahaman mahasiswa tentang materi sejarah melalui media pembelajaranberbasis komik. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode kualitatif deskritif. Sumberdata terdiri atas sumber lisan berupa hasil wawancara, sumber tertulis berupabuku dan portofolio tugas mahasiswa. Pengambilan data dengan studi pustaka,observasi, dan wawancara. Validitas data menggunakan trianggulasi. Analisisdata dilakukan dengan cara analisis interaktif meliputi tiga tahapan, yakni reduksidata, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Penelitian ini menghasilkankesimpulan bahwa 1) Mahasiswa mampu mengembangkan media pembelajaransejarah dengan cara manual dan digital 2) Mahasiswa mampu meningkatkanketrampilan dalam pembuatan media belajar berbasis komik 3) Mahasiswamampu meningkatkan pemahamannya tentang kesejarahan melalui pembuatanmedia komik
