Abstract

Abstract

Cognitive theory is a conceptual framework that is very relevant in the context of learning Arabic. The existence of language acquisition theory, meaningful learning, and cognitive individualism are crucial factors in achieving language learning goals. This study aims to understand the implementation of cognitive theory in learning Arabic at MA Al-Huda. The method applied is qualitative descriptive. Through this research, the author seeks to uncover the methods applied by Arabic language educators at MA Al-Huda, as well as the phenomenon of Arabic language learning by utilizing the theory, without intervention or substantial changes in its implementation. The results of the study show that the application of cognitive learning theory in Arabic language learning involves experiential reflection, guided free discussion, critical thinking development, problem solving, idea presentation, and concept exploration.

Abstract

This article explores and analyzes the meaning of synecdoche, specifically, the forms pars pro toto and totem pro parte, as found in Surah Al-Baqarah. The study employs a qualitative approach, with the Quran as the primary data source. Data were collected using note-taking and free-listening techniques and were analyzed through the adoption of Lakoff's cognitive analysis technique. The findings reveal the presence of both pars pro toto and totem pro parte synecdoches in Surah Al-Baqarah. Examples of pars pro toto include references to parts of prayer (such as standing, bowing, dhikr, and prostration) representing the entire prayer, parts of the body (neck, hands, and face) representing the whole body, and parts of a place (Masjid al-Haram and Kaaba) representing the entire place. Conversely, examples of totem pro parte include references to the whole of a limb (finger) representing a part of it (fingertip) and the whole of a period (moon) representing a part of it (hilal). These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the use of synecdoche in Quranic language, highlighting its role in enriching the textual and interpretive dimensions of the scripture.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the Unzur Wa Qul Method on the Maharah al-Qira'ah (reading skills) of Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. Using a quantitative approach with an experimental method and quasi-experimental design, this study was conducted on students in one of the Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Gorontalo City. The results show a significant influence of the Unzur Wa Qul Method on students' maharah al-qira'ah. Statistical analysis using SPSS 26.0 shows the Asymp. Sig. (2-Tailed) value for the experimental group is 0.000, which is less than 0.05. This indicates a significant difference between Pre-Test and Post-Test results in the experimental group. Furthermore, hypothesis testing confirms the positive and significant influence of the Unzur Wa Qul method, with an Asymp. Sig. (2-Tailed) value of 0.000, which is also less than 0.05. These findings affirm the effectiveness of the Unzur Wa Qul Method in improving students' Arabic reading skills. The implications of this research point to the potential for wider development and application of this method in Arabic language learning at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah level, particularly to enhance students' reading skills.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of integrated teaching materials to enhance Arabic reading (mahārah qira'ah) and writing (mahārah kitābah) skills through a constructivist approach that incorporates calligraphic aesthetics (khat) and writing conventions (rasm) as supporting elements within Arabic language instruction. This integration does not position khat or rasm as separate subjects but embeds them pedagogically to strengthen students' understanding of Arabic script. The study is motivated by challenges in Arabic language learning, particularly the fragmentation between theory and practice and the lack of comprehensive teaching materials. The research method employs the Research and Development (R&D) model, utilizing the ADDIE approach, with 72 students and two teachers from MA Al-Huda Gorontalo. Experts in material, language, and media have validated the study. The results demonstrate high validation scores from experts (material expert: 92%, language expert: 88%, media expert: 78%), as well as proven effectiveness in field trials, with positive responses from students (79%) and teachers (88%). A significant improvement was observed in Arabic writing (+81%) and reading (+78%) skills, as measured through pretest–post-test analysis. The study concludes that the teaching materials developed—which integrate khat and rasm within a constructivist framework—effectively enhance Arabic literacy, supported by systematic material organization and flexible classroom application. Recommendations include further development of interactive features and broader trials across different educational levels. These findings contribute significantly to the advancement of innovative and effective Arabic teaching materials.
