Abstract

 This study is an attempt to explore the teachers’ views on their participation in the English Drama Performance (EDP). Employing a qualitative approach, this study was conducted by selecting three English teachers from three different levels of education, who have been taking part in the EDP for a minimum of two performances. Data were collected through a one-on-one interview with each participant. The finding revealed that the teachers, at first were doubtful in participating in the EDP, however, after many rehearsals, they found enjoyment. In addition to their feelings, the teachers expressed their likes and dislikes in participating the EDP too. They also mentioned about the effect of their participation in the EDP towards their English skills. It turned out that by participating in the EDP, the teachers can express the English language function, enhance their pronunciation skill, practice communication skill, ease reading, and improve vocabulary. In addition to the effect on their English skills, their participation in the EDP contributes to the way they teach English to their students.

Abstract

Komunitas usaha Shero Bateak Dlingo (SBD) bergerak di bidang pembuatan kain Ecoprint berada di Kawasan wisata Kecamatan Dlingo. Destinasi ini cukup potensial untuk menjadi Ecotourism jika dikaitkan dengan konsep kegiatan produksi kain Ecoprint di komunitas SBD ini. Sejak dibentuk pada tahun 2019, SBD telah memproduksi kain-kain Ecoprint yang sudah bernilai jual yang baik. Namun sejak ter dampak karena pandemi Covid-19, SBD menghadapi permasalahan seperti produksi ecoprint yang macet, pemasaran produk yang belum maksimal karena belum ada kapasitas mengelola media sosial, manajemen usaha yang belum tersusun rapi, dan kurang update tentang perkembangan teknik ecoprint. Dari permasalahan tersebut, solusi yang telah dilaksanakan kepada mitra yaitu kegiatan Ngecobar (Ngecoprint Bareng) di alam terbuka (Bukit Lintang Sewu) dengan teknik Ecoprint yang baru. Sedangkan untuk pertemuan kedua, kegiatan pameran di alam terbuka dilaksanakan di Hutan Pinus Mangunan. Selain itu, pengelolaan sosial media untuk pemasaran produk juga sudah mulai digalakkan. Dalam kegiatan pameran, diperoleh omset sebesar Rp 2.000.000 dari hasil penjualan produk Ecoprint dalam rangka mempromosikan Dlingo sebagai Kawasan Ekowisata.

Abstract

Sekaron Ecoprint, sebuah UMKM baru yang bergerak di bidang pembuatan kain Ecoprint berada di daerah Nogotirto, Gamping, Sleman. UMKM ini didirikan oleh Ibu Sri Wahyuni berawal dari sekedar hobi yang akhirnya mengikuti kursus ecoprint dasar dan mulai produksi. Namun demikian, penguasaan teknik ecoprint dari mitra belum bisa dikatakan sangat mahir sehingga hasil yang diproduksi kurang maksimal (terdapat banyak kegagalan). Di samping itu, mitra juga belum memiliki platform untuk memamerkan dan memperjualbelikan produk-produk buatan Sekaron Ecoprint. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk bersama-sama pemilik dan penggiat Aisyiyah memberdayakan perempuan agar memiliki keterampilan baru dalam hal ecoprint yang mana bisa menjadi salah satu sumber penghasil uang dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya alam di sekitar rumah. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah peserta dapat membuat produk ecoprint dengan mengikuti tahapan-tahapan scouring, mordanting, printing, serta proses ekstraksi pewarna alami.

Abstract

In communicative language teaching, role play has become one of the most well-known activities among language teachers. In fact, in higher educational context, role play is considered to be a good method to facilitate learners oral proficiency. However, the researchers often found some teachers assign too demanding and unclear role play. In fact, some students complained about the implementation of role play at the department. This research aims at revealing students responses when having role play as their group assignment in English classes. A descriptive qualitative design was employed to obtain the research objectives, namely how role play was implemented in the eyes of students and what responses they gave to its assignment. To gather the data, an interview was conducted to one male participant and two female participants taking the Literary Appreciation course at one English Department of a private Islamic university in Yogyakarta. Based on the interview, nine stages were implemented in assigning role play.They are announcing the assignment; distributing materials for role play; modelling the role play; grouping; distributing roles; giving time to prepare the play; creating a role play;having the performance; and giving feedback. Also, there were six responses from students towards the assignment namely happy; not bored; shocked; entertained; anxious; and enthusiastic.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis preliminary study explores external motivation in L2 extensive reading regarding word-target and pleasure reading. In contrast to the extensive reading principle which discourages the use of assessment to promote pleasure in reading, this study aims to explore how reading targets as one form of assessment is potential to maintain pleasure in reading. This qualitative study was conducted in the Department of Arabic Education at an Islamic private university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Two reading classes for first-year students were observed. The data were collected from observation, interviews, and students’ reading profiles as recorded in XReading, a learning management system supporting students’ reading practice. The results show that the students use the reading target as an external drive to read and XReading allows students to choose the texts according to their preference and within their linguistic capacity, which instills pleasure in reading. The findings also suggest that a periodical goal and regular teacher monitoring will motivate students to sustain their reading progress. ABSTRAKStudi pendahuluan ini mengeksplorasi motivasi eksternal dalam membaca ekstensif dalam bahasa asing, terutama terkait dengan target kata dan kesenangan membaca. Berbeda dengan prinsip membaca ekstensif yang secara umum tidak menyarankan adanya asesmen untuk mendorong kesenangan membaca, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana target membaca justru menjadi salah satu asesmen yang berpotensi untuk menjaga kesenangan membaca. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang dilaksanakan di Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab di salah satu universitas swasta di Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Observasi dilakukan di dua kelas mahasiswa tahun pertama. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa data observasi, interview, profil membaca mahasiswa yang terekam dalam XReading, sebuah learning management system yang digunakan mahasiswa untuk mendukung praktek membaca ekstensif mereka. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa menggunakan target membaca sebagai dorongan eksternal untuk membaca dan XReading memberikan ruang pada mahasiswa untuk memilih bacaan sesuai dengan pilihan dan kemampuan linguistik mereka, yang menguatkan kesenangan mereka dalam membaca. Temuan dalam penelitian ini juga menyarankan adanya gol bacaan dan monitoring dosen secara berkala untuk memotivasi mahasiswa dalam mempertahankan progres membacanya.How to Cite:  Paradita, L.I, Surwanti, D., Hunafa, N..
