Abstract

Subtraction has two meanings and each meaning leads to the different strategies. The meaning of “taking away something” suggests a direct subtraction, while the meaning of “determining the difference between two numbers” is more likely to be modeled as indirect addition. Many prior researches found that the second meaning and second strategy rarely appeared in the mathematical textbooks and teacher explanations, including in Indonesia. Therefore, this study was conducted to contribute to the development of a local instruction theory for subtraction by designing instructional activities that can facilitate first grade of primary school students to develop a model in solving two digit numbers subtraction. Consequently, design research was chosen as an appropriate approach for achieving the research aim and Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) was used as a guide to design the lesson. This study involved 6 students in the pilot experiment, 31 students in the teaching experiment, and a first grade teacher of SDN 179 Palembang. The result of this study shows that the beads string could bridge students from the contextual problems (taking ginger candies and making grains bracelets) to the use of the empty number line. It also shows that the empty number line could promote students to use different strategies (direct subtraction, indirect addition, and indirect subtraction) in solving subtraction problems. Based on these findings, it is recommended to apply RME in the teaching learning process to make it more meaningful for students.

Abstract

Saat ini paradigma pembelajaran matematika telah berubah dari pembelajaran yang berpusat kepada guru menjadi pembelajaran yang berpusat pada siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran yang terdiri atas Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) dan Lembar Kegiatan Siswa (LKS) menggunakan paradigma baru dalam pembelajaran matematika khususnya pada topik geometri serta untuk mendeskripsikan kualitas perangkat pembelajaran tersebut. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan 4-D yang terdiri atas 4 tahap, yaitu pendefinisian, perancangan, pengembangan, dan penyebaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa paradigma baru yang digunakan adalah pendekatan Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBM), Investigasi, dan Problem Solving yang memiliki karakteristik berupa penggunaan masalah sebagai sumber belajar. Materi yang dipilih adalah Bangun Ruang Sisi Lengkung yang banyak mengeksplorasi masalah dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Perangkat pembelajaran yang dihasilkan telah divalidasi oleh ahli sampai dihasilkan RPP dan LKS yang layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran. RPP dan LKS yang telah valid tersebut sebaiknya diujicobakan di kelas agar dapat diketahui tingkat kepraktisan dan keefektivannya.Kata kunci: pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis masalah, PBM, pendekatan investigasi, pendekatan problem solving, bangun ruang sisi lengkung

Abstract

According to the National Science Education Standards, teachers should emphasize students’ interests, needs, experiences, inquiry, collaboration and understanding in their classrooms. One of the characteristics of inquiry is using scaffolding. Because of the benefits, it is important to investigate the effect of scaffolding on achievement in mathematics. Based on some relevant previous studies, scaffolding can be used to support better achievement in mathematics. In scaffolding, teacher’s guidance decreases gradually and student’s autonomy increases gradually. By giving guidance, teacher revises student’s misconceptions; while by giving autonomy, teacher supports student’s motivation in learning. Minimizing misconceptions and maximizing motivation can lead students to better achievement in mathematics. Many studies in this paper emphasize the importance of teachers' contribution in giving scaffolding to their students. Further research should be conducted to investigate the role of other people surrounding the students, such as parent and peer, in supporting effective scaffolding.Keywords: scaffolding, achievement in mathematics, misconceptions, motivation

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop an ethnomathematics-based learning tool to achieve mathematical literacy skills of junior high school students with valid, practical, and effective qualifications on polyhedron subjects. This research used a mixed research method with ADDIE research development procedures. This study involved the eighth graders of SMP Negeri in Wonosobo Regency, Centra1 Java as the research objects. The research instruments were validation sheets, student response questionnaires, observation sheets of learning implementation, and test questions of mathematical literacy skills. The results showed that: 1.) The learning tool was declared valid, indicated by the result of the lesson plan assessment obtaining a score of 120, which was classified in the very good criteria, and the results of the student worksheet assessment obtaining a score of 159, which was included in the very good criteria; 2.) The learning tool was declared practical as indicated by the score on the student response questionnaire of 65,13, which was included in the good criteria. The percentage of learning implementation was of 89%, included in the very good criteria; and 3.) The learning tool was declared effective as indicated by an increase in students’ pretest and posttest scores, from 64,22 to 83,67, and 84% of students’ completeness on the posttest, having met the minimum criteria of good.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menguji efektivitas pembelajaran discovery learning berbantu GeoGebra ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep dan motivasi belajar siswa. Penelitian ini dengan metode quasi-experiment. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 8 Purworejo dengan 2 kelas sebagai sampel. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri dari soal pre-test, post-test dan angket motivasi belajar siswa yang diberikan sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji-t didukung dengan uji normalitas dan homogenitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) pembelajaran discovery learning berbantu GeoGebra efektif ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep siswa. (2) pembelajaran dengan discovery learning berbantu GeoGebra efektif ditinjau dari motivasi belajar siswa. (3) pembelajaran discovery learning tidak efektif ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep siswa. (4) pembelajaran discovery learning efektif ditinjau dari motivasi belajar siswa. (5) pembelajaran discovery learning berbantu GeoGebra lebih efektif ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep dan motivasi belajar siswa.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an assessment instrument for strengthening students' Pancasila profile in middle school mathematics teaching, which teachers can use. This research follows a development process using the Plomp model, consisting of three phases. The respondents involved in this study were six experts in mathematics education and information technology, 23 middle school mathematics teachers, and 1,297 students. The research results show that Aiken's V value is 0.89, which exceeds the v-table of 0.630, indicating good validity. The Cronbach Alpha reliability analysis results indicate a strong outcome, with a value of 0.751. Confirmatory factor analysis using the R program showed significant factor loadings with a p-value < 0.05. Apart from that, the achievement percentage for all dimensions is in the good category, with an average achievement of 87.06%. These results prove that the assessment instrument developed is suitable for teachers to measure the strengthening of Pancasila student profiles in mathematics teaching at school. The developed instrument can be used as an effective evaluation tool in mathematics teaching to strengthen the Pancasila Learner Profile and help identify areas that require improvement in teaching to achieve a more balanced profile across all dimensions.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) pemahaman konsep siswa dalam mengerjakan soal materi bangun datar dan bangun ruang pada soal PISA konten Space and Shape berdasarkan Certainty of Response Index (CRI); (2) tingkat kemampuan spasial siswa pada materi bangun datar dan bangun ruang pada soal PISA konten Space and Shape dengan menggunakan Certainty of Response Index (CRI); (3) penyebab miskonsepsi siswa. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 55 siswa kelas IX SMP di Lembimjar Neutron Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan dilakukan tes untuk seluruh subyek penelitian dan wawancara kepada siswa yang memiliki skor tertinggi, skor terendah, dan skor tengah-tengah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, display data atau penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) mayoritas responden memahami konsep dengan kategori baik untuk pemahaman bangun datar dan bangun ruang dengan rerata CRI 2,5; (2) masih terdapat beberapa siswa yang mengalami miskonsepsi dalam pengerjaan soal; (3) penyebab terjadinya miskonsepsi karena siswa kesulitan menerapkan konsep matematika untuk penyelesaian masalah, khusunya soal serupa PISA yang memerlukan cara berpikir kritis dengan penyelesaian yang kompleks dan sistematis. Terjadinya miskonsepsi oleh beberapa siswa juga disebabkan karena siswa tidak terbiasa mengerjakan soal matematika yang telah dimodifikasi lebih lanjut.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan dan menguji kualitas media monopoli dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis untuk materi bangun datar pada siswa kelas VII. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan model pengembangan ADDIE yang tahapannya meliputi analysis, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation, terdiri dari analisis kevalidan, kepraktisan, keefektifan, dan evaluasi media pembelajaran. Subjek uji coba yaitu 32 siswa kelas VII A SMP Negeri 1 Bandongan. Instrumen dari penelitian ini adalah pre-test dan post-test pemahaman konsep, lembar validasi media, angket respon siswa, dan pedoman wawancara. Kualitas media dinilai berdasarkan analisis kevalidan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media monopoli dalam pembelajaran matematika pada materi bangun datar kelas VII yang dikembangkan layak digunakan. Kelayakan media dilihat dari (1) aspek kevalidan, berdasarkan dosen ahli dan guru matematika dengan skor rata-rata 4,26, (2) aspek kepraktisan, berdasarkan angket respon siswa dengan skor rata-rata 4,348 dan hasil wawancara guru menyatakan bahwa media monopoli praktis digunakan, (3) aspek keefektifan, berdasarkan hasil post-test pemahaman konsep dengan persentase ketuntasan 81,25 % serta rata-rata tes pemahaman konsep meningkat dari 60,4 ke 85,56 dan berdasarkan uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan bahwa media monopoli efektif meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis.Kata Kunci: media pembelajaran; media monopoli; pemahaman konsep
