Abstract

Abstract Background: Cancer patients with chemotherapy experience fatigue as cancer effects and cell destruction due to the toxicity of chemotherapy drugs. Objective: Determine the effectiveness of relaxation breathing exercises to fatigue cancer patients who undergoing chemotherapy. Methode: This research used quasi experiment pretest and posttest method. There were 92 respondents who examined using purposive sampling technique and divided into 46 respondents as intervention group and 46 respondents as control group. Relaxation breathing exercise was given four weeks for intervention group on April-July 2018 in Siloam Hospital Manado. Result: The majority of cancer patients were age 45-65 years 69,9%, 54,3% were diagnosed cancer ≤1 year and 79,3% received combination chemotherapy. The result of Wilcoxon test revealed there was significant difference before and after intervention to fatigue (p value = 0,00), with mean rank of reduction 21,97% on fatigue. The result of Mann Whitney test revealed that there was significant difference in fatigue between intervention and control groups (p value = 0,00). Multivariate logistic regression revealed that there was an effect of relaxation breathing exercise on fatigue (p value = 0,00) and relaxation breathing exercise may reduce 60,46 times of fatigue on patients who undergoing chemotherapy. Conclusion: Relaxation Breathing Exercise can reduce fatigue in cancer patients who undergoing chemotherapy in Siloam Hospital Manado. It is recommended to perform relaxation breathing exercise as a routine exercise for cancer patients during chemotherapy to minimize fatigue. Abstract

Introduction: Although health promotion strategies have been made to promote reproductive health, women’s reproductive health problems have not dropped significantly. This study aimed to examine the relationship between early sexual behavior and reproductive health of women of reproductive-aged 15-49 years old for North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Methods: Descriptive correlational design was used to examine the relationship between the age of first sexual intercourse and pregnancy complications, decision making about the use of birth control, and knowledge about HIV-AIDS.  Data were obtained from 585 women aged 15-49-year-old selected from the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI 2017). Results: Cramer’s V correlation coefficient showed a strong correlation between age at first sexual intercourse and pregnancy complications and moderate correlation between decision making about the use of birth control, and knowledge about HIV-AIDS. Forty percent of sexually active women were 10-19 years old. In addition, decisions about the use of contraceptive strategies among those ages have the potential to be not users in accordance with rational contraception use because they might not seek health workers’ advice. This study also found a low proportion of women understood HIV transmission. Conclusions: Findings from this study affirm the hypothesis that women’s sexual behavior correlates with their reproductive health. Therefore, improving sexual behavior may improve reproductive health. These findings also may be used to inform the effectiveness of the implemented reproductive health programs in North Sulawesi Province.  Several culturally sensitive strategies are recommended to overcome problems and improve reproductive health.

Abstract

Mental health issues that are not optimally addressed during childhood, particularly among elementary school-aged children, have a significant correlation with an increased risk of mental health problems in later stages of life, namely adolescence or young adulthood. Depression is the most common mental health issue experienced by children, followed by social, behavioural, and emotional disorders, anxiety, psychological distress, internet addiction, stress, social phobia, sexual and emotional abuse, violence, as well as attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders. The variety of mental health issues experienced by children highlights the importance of early attention and intervention to support healthy mental development and prevent long-term adverse effects. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the factors influencing the mental health of elementary school-aged children, including risk and protective factors. A quantitative descriptive study was conducted at SDN Inpres Kolongan, North Sulawesi, using a survey method on a population of 171 students aged 9-14 years, with total sampling resulting in 171 respondents. Data was collected using the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire for Children (SDQC). The findings of this study revealed a significant "abnormal" score in the emotional symptoms category (66.7%) and behavioural problems category (48%). Meanwhile, "borderline" scores were dominated by behavioural problems (18.1%) and hyperactivity (15.2%). For the "normal" category, the majority were in the prosocial behaviour category (88.9%) and hyperactivity (74.3%). Thus, this study contributes to strategies for preventing mental health disorders in the future and the development of more holistic mental health policies for children, particularly in the field of mental health nursing.
