Abstract

Abstract

The facade or the face of the building is part of the building that usually faces the street. The facade of the building can describe the background, condition and cultural situation that occurred at the time the building was built. A facade can also tell the characteristics of the individual inhabitants within it, as well as the collective identity of a community that makes it a representation of its inhabitants to the public. The composition of a façade, despite all its functional requirements (windows, door openings, roof planes, eaves) is essentially related to the creation of a harmonious unity between good proportions of vertical and horizontal elements, materials, colors and decorative elements. The facade of the building is also influenced by environmental conditions. The distance between one house to another, the width of the road, the boundaries around the building becomes one of the important factors that will determine the shape and orientation of the building. In contrast to the integrated residential areas that have been well-regulated form and orientation of buildings, densely populated areas will have a diversity of shapes and orientations depending on the location where the house is located. The area of Astana Anyar, Tegallega becomes one of the most interesting densely populated areas to study because it consists of a combination of open area (node) and circulation (path). This research method was conducted using a typology approach and refers to the façade elements. The purpose of this study is to find out the type and orientation of building facades in the area. The results of the study indicate that the open area (node) greatly influences the typology and orientation of the building.

Abstract

The old downtown area of Banda Aceh holds high historical value, as evidenced by the many historic relics that still survive as a historic object in the region. The existence of these ancient artifacts can complement the historical narrative as well as the authentic proof of the identity of the city of Banda Aceh. The central area of Banda Aceh requires interesting public spaces to make the existence of these historic assets more prominent as an element of the attraction of this historic area. This study aims to strengthen the identity of the downtown area of Banda Aceh through an architectural design concept in a potential public corridor that has not been optimally utilized. The idea is to assemble historic spaces in this corridor to make it easier and convenient for pedestrians to access. This research is done by recording visual image of open space in public corridor area to capture visual picture and to know physical quality of public spaces in the location. Increased visual accentuation in the public corridors of the downtown area of Banda Aceh can form visual sequences that provide different spatial experiences. The experience of this space arises from the historical space-themed space phases supported by the gradual display of space elements. The key to success in strengthening the identity of this corridor is the selection of the design of appropriate elements of space, in accordance with the character of space that can represent the values and historical identity of the region.

Abstract

Education is one of the most important factors that will build the nation's character in the future. Even the goverment also explained that every citizen has the same right to obtain quality education, even though they are in remote, underdeveloped areas or those with special needs (Law No. 20 of 2003 article 5). One area that is deemed to have special needs is the post-disaster area.In the past few years, various regions in Indonesia have been affected by natural disasters, such earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, etc. For example is Lombok Island, which suffered a disaster due to the 2018 big earthquakes in Indonesia. The government, through the Ministry of Education and Culture, as well as several NGOs, has made several efforts by establishing emergency school tents at several refugee points, but usually not equipped with good facilities. Some emergency schools only consist of open tents, with students studying and writing on the floor. This research aims to make learning table design criteria for students in accordance with these conditions. The methods used in this research are site observation with open ended questions are given to students and teachers in emergency schools, then content analysis is conducted to determine the appropriate design criteria. The results of this study are expected to be implemented into a table design that is practical, lightweight, and easy to operate by considering its use by primary school students with emergency conditions.

Abstract

The Interior Design Study Program of Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia focuses primarily on design education. The main objectives of this study are teaching how to design and educating designers to be professional. The exhibition design course is an elective course and uses a student-centered learning method. This method is usually adopted to improve student participation. Active student participation is a major element in almost every learning process. This course not only provides knowledge about the ins and outs of exhibition design, but also invites students to solve problems through given assignments. Each assignment is unique and forces the student to role-play as a stakeholder around an exhibition, such as a designer, visitor, content creator, decision maker, etc., to provide different points of view. The student is asked to see the problem from different angles and produce optimal solutions based on their skills and knowledge. The present study was based on observation of the process and results of Exhibition Design courses from two semesters in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the assignment results and their evaluation, it is shown that this approach can generate student participation and improve the students’ understanding of the subject. The students were always curious about what would happen in the next lecture. All students showed positive learning experiences throughout the course. The general concept of this learning method could be implemented to varying degrees in other courses in interior design schools.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the physical presence of classrooms shifted to virtual spaces, where it changed almost all methods of delivering learning materials. Elements of space and its supports that can usually be felt in the classroom, such as furniture configuration, wall colors, information boards, teacher's desks and chairs, and others, make the class irrelevant. However, as the situation improves, there is a gradual transition from online to offline learning methods. Previous research stated that students were not satisfied with the online learning system due to a lack of engagement. This study tries to identify and review students' perceptions when they return to the classroom, starting from their conditions, tendencies, and expectations of their classrooms so that learning process can take place well. The object of this research is an elementary school, namely SDN 03 Kepongpongan, located in Cirebon Regency. The method used is participatory design approach, where the main data is obtained through the distribution of questionnaires adapted to the characteristics of the children, interviews, discussion, and the results of documentation during the activity. From the results it was found that there was a low perception between students and their classrooms. The results of this study are students' perceptions of classrooms elements that can be used for the process of re-designing classrooms after the pandemic period.
