Abstract

The present study is aimed at investigating the perception of elementary school pre-service teachers regarding the genre based digital story telling projects in their General English (GE) class. The benefits and challenges of digital storytelling projects have been studied by many researchers. However, perception of elementary school pre-service teachers of the issue is still rarely investigated. The data were collected from open and closed questionnaire to 47 elementary school pre-service teachers of a public university in West Java, Indonesia. In the second semester, they had a GE class (kelas Mata Kuliah Umum/MKU Bahasa Inggris). They were given two genre-based digital storytelling projects i.e., the digital descriptive and narrative text projects. The findings are further explained in relation to the 4Cs skill in 21st century education. It is found that genre-based digital storytelling projects improve the elementary school pre-service teachers’ communication, collaboration, creative thinking, and creativity skill. The pre-service teachers generally perceived the learning as meaningful, engaging, and enjoyable, supporting digital storytelling as a powerful media in the 21st century education.

Abstract

Desa Kalimukti merupakan sebuah kampung kecil yang terletak di Kecamatan Pabedilan, Kabupaten Cirebon, Provinsi Jawa Barat. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa meskipun banyak masyarakat yang terdampak Pandemi Covid-19 kesadaran masyarakat tentang bahaya penularan Virus Covid-19 masih rendah, banyak masyarakat yang melakukan kontak langsung (berkerumun) tanpa masker dan menjaga jarak. Untuk itu, perlu dilakukan upaya untuk mencegah terjadinya cluster Covid-19 yang baru dilingkungan masyarakat RT/RW 01/04. Program yang diselenggarakan adalah berupa edukasi masyarakat, pembagian susu sehat yang terbuat dari campuran susu UHT, jelly, rempah-rempah, dan madu. Metode pelaksanaan program adalah secara Luring dengan Door-to-door ke beberapa rumah warga dan kerumunan masyarakat. Tahap pertama program dilaksanakan pada 28 November 2020 dengan kegiatan Edukasi Covid-19 dan membagikan 25 gelas susu sehat. Tahap kedua dilaksanakan pada Sabtu, 5 Desember 2020, dengan kegiatan membagikan masker disertai edukasi dan penyemprotan disinfektan buatan dilingkungan tempat tinggal warga. Materi edukasi meliputi: pentingnya menjaga kesehatan dan menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat dalam menerapkan protokol kesehatan yang diarahkan pemerintah. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat desa kalimukti merespon dengan baik, mereka merasa senang, dan memiliki kesadaran untuk senantiasa menjaga kesehatan serta siap menghadapi pandemi Covid-19. Program ini berjalan dengan baik karena masyarakat juga mengharap agar pandemi cepat cepat berlalu.

Abstract

This training is carried out as a service to elementary school teachers in providing technology-based student learning evaluations. The purpose of this service is to provide new knowledge related to the methods of providing learning evaluation and to improve the ability of elementary school teachers in using Google Forms chat room-based as a media for learning evaluation. The method used in this service was the steps implementation activities that include: (a) Interviewed teachers in UPTD SDN 9 Nagrikaler and observed the implementation of online learning; (b) Formulated the problem; (c) Coordinated with teachers, school principals, and field supervisors in determining programs; (d) Made a training media in the form of PowerPoints and videos; (e) Implemented the program. The results obtained based on the initial questionnaire data, the teachers' knowledge about the use of Google Forms was still minimum so that the training on the use of Google Forms chat room-based could help teachers to increase their knowledge in operating Google Forms in the 4.0 Industrial era. However, from the results of the interview, it was found that some teachers were difficult to operate Google Forms because they were constrained by its language and terms. In addition, teachers felt that Google Forms was effective enough to be used as a learning media and learning evaluation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan di SDN Parakan II pada siswa kelas IV dengan jumlah 17 siswa, 6 siswa perempuan dan 11 siswa laki-laki. Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami bacaan ketika proses pembelajaran. Teradapt siswa yang memiliki minat baca yang kurang, hal ini disebabkan karena siswa merasa bosan dan menganggap membaca tidak menyenangkan. Sehingga berdampak terhadap pemahaman siswa terhadap isi bacaan serta kualiatas hasil belajar yang rendah. Penggunaan model pembelajaran yang tepat untuk mengoptimalkan siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman yang peneliti terapkan yaitu model pembelajaran Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R). Model SQ3R ini merupakan teknik dalam melakukan aktivitas membaca dimana setiap tahapannya merupakan kesatuan yang saling berkaitan. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas dengan menggunakan siklus yang dikemukakan oleh Kemmis dan Taggart dengan empat tahapan yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, serta refleksi. Pada siklus I kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa termasuk pada kategori kurang dengan nilai rata-rata 64,70 dan ketuntasan hasil belajar 47%. Sedangkan pada siklus II kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa meningkat dengan nilai-rata-rata 83,08 dan ketuntasan hasil membaca pemahaman 88,23% yang termasuk pada kategori tinggi. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa model Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) berbantuan media komik dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahman siswa kelas IV SDN Parakan II. Kata Kunci: SQ3R, Media Komik, Membaca Pemahaman. Abstrack This research was conducted at SDN Parakan II in class IV students with a total of 17 students, 6 female students and 11 male students. This research is motivated by students who have difficulty understanding reading during the learning process. Regarding students who have less interest in reading, this is because students feel bored and think reading is not fun. So that it has an impact on students' understanding of the content of reading and the quality of learning outcomes is low. The use of appropriate learning models to optimize students in improving reading comprehension skills that researchers apply is the Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) learning model. The SQ3R model is a technique for carrying out reading activities where each stage is an interrelated unit. This type of research is Classroom Action Research using the cycle proposed by Kemmis and Taggart with four stages, namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In the first cycle, students' reading comprehension skills were included in the less category with an average score of 64.70 and 47% completeness learning outcomes. Whereas in cycle II the students' reading comprehension ability increased with an average score of 83.08 and the completeness reading comprehension result was 88.23% which is included in the high category. The results of the study show that the Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) model assisted by comic media can improve the reading comprehension skills of fourth grade students at SDN Parakan II.
