Abstract

This study explores the problems of women , patriarchal culture and the fight for gender equality as exposed in Nh. Dini’s novels. There are still many women who are trapped in domestic sector and loose their rights to manage their own lives with their own way. There have been many women who are successful working in public sector, but the number are still very small compared to the number of men who are successful. This study tends to expose the problems of women to reach gender equality for women. This study is importantly conducted because Nh. Dini’s literary works reveal the problems of women related to patriarchal culture which hampers the progress of women. The present study is different with the previous one, because this study explores feminism ideology which is against patriarchal culture and tradition which is still adopted by people as portrayed in five novels of Nh. Dini. The theory of Dinamic Structuralism is used to explain the interconnection of all aspects and components of the novels to get the complete meaning. The theory of Sociology of Literature is used to relate the social problems in the novels to the realities in the real world. The theory of Feminism is used to understand the novels related to women problems, patriarchal culture and gender equality. Text analysis based on the problems of the study revealed that many women are still trapped in domestic sector, still dominated by patriarchal culture. They loose their fundamental rights to manage their own lives and to improve their lives quality to become qualified women. Consenquently the women are so dependent on other people. Analysis about the factors which caused the poverty and misery of women revealed that the main cause of the women problems in the novels is patriarchal culture. The women are not permitted to work in public sector to earn their own lives. Consenquently many women become poor for being jobless. The fight for gender equality that revealed in five novels are in agreement with the thought of feminism ideology, among others is the fight to get education and job. Feminism ideology also fight to free women from patriarchal domination by living without marriage or claiming for divorce from the husband who can not protect their wives anymore.

Abstract

Abstrak Tulisan ini dibuat berdasarkan penelitian yang berjudul “Semangat Kebangsaan, Pendidikan Dan Moral Agama Yang Membangun Karakter Bangsa Dalam Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk Karya Willem Iskander” (Semangat Kebangsaan, Pendidikan dan Moral Agama Sebagai Pembangunan Karakter Bangsa yang Digambarkan dalam Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk Ditulis Oleh Willem Iskander). Ada dua masalah yang dianalisis, yang pertama adalah mengungkap ide-ide yang terkandung dalam puisi. Masalah kedua adalah analisis gagasan-gagasan yang mempengaruhi perkembangan kesejahteraan sosial dan ekonomi masyarakat. Tujuan khusus dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengantisipasi dampak negatif dari kekacauan global bagi generasi muda. Mereka diharapkan tidak tercerabut dari tradisi dan budayanya. Kearifan lokal sebagai bagian dari filosofi kehidupan harus dilestarikan sebagai aset nasional kita untuk masa depan kita yang lebih baik. Setidaknya ada tiga puluh orang yang telah diwawancarai. Mereka adalah pemimpin lokal untuk agama, pendidikan, dan kegiatan sosial. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik rekam, dokumentasi foto. Teori yang digunakan adalah hermeneutik, sosiologi sastra dan teori budaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar generasi muda tidak mengetahui puisi karena tidak mendapatkannya dari sekolah. Beberapa dari mereka tahu dari keluarga yang lebih tua atau dari perpustakaan setempat. Tim peneliti merekomendasikan kepada pemerintah setempat agar siswa diberikan atau diajarkan bahasa dan sastra daerah khususnya untuk SMP dan SMA di Perumahan Muarasoma, Tapanuli Selatan. Kata kunci: ide Willem Iskander’s, Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk, nationalisme, pembentukan karakter bangsa, pelestarian budaya Abstract This paper is made based on the research entitled “Semangat Kebangsaan, Pendidikan Dan Moral Agama Yang Membangun Karakter Bangsa Dalam Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk Karya Willem Iskander” (The Spirit of Nationalism, Education and Moral Religion as Nation Character Building Which Portrayed in Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk Written By Willem Iskander). Two problems have been analyzed. The first one is to expose the ideas contained in the poems. The second problem is the analyses of the ideas that have influenced society's social and economic welfare. The special purpose of this research is to anticipate the negative impact of global chaos on the young generation. They are expected not to be uprooted from their tradition and culture. Local wisdom as a part of the philosophy of life should be preserved as our national asset for our better future. There are at least thirty persons who have been interviewed. They are the local leaders for religion, education, and social activities. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The data are collected by using the recorded technique, documentation of photos. The theory used is hermeneutic, sociology of literature and the theory of culture. This research showed that most of the young generation didn't know about the poems because they didn't get them from school. Some of them knew from elderly families or the local library. The team of the researcher recommended the local authorities so that the students are given or taught the local language and literature, especially for junior and senior high school in Muarasoma Residences, South Tapanuli. Abstract

Artikel ini dibuat berdasarkan penelitian yang berjudul “Nilai-Nilai Sosial Dan Kearifan Lokal Dalam Andung Mandailing Tapanuli Selatan (Dokumentasi dan Terjemahan Ke Dalam Bahasa Inggris)” yang dilakukan di kota Medan dan di kampung halaman etnis Mandailing yaitu di Sipirok dan Padang Lawas. Dalam penelitian ini yang akan diteliti adalah bahasa Andung Mandailing yang dipakai oleh para gadis yang akan melaksanakan perkawinan. Bahasa Andung penting untuk dideskripsikan dan didokumentasi karena mengandung nilai-nilai sosial yang luhur dan kearifan lokal yang harus terus dilestarikan agar tidak punah digerus zaman. Penelitian kepustakaan memanfaatkan bahan-bahan yang sudah dicetak oleh para penulis lokal dan akademis. Tujuan jangka panjang dari penelitian ini adalah akan mendokumentasi dan mendeskripsikan bahasa Andung dalam bahasa Inggris. Hal ini dilakukan agar generasi muda merasa peduli dan memberikan perhatian pada tradisi dan budayanya. Target yang akan dicapai adalah model atau strategi untuk usaha revitalisasi agar tidak terancam punah. Metode pengumpulan data kualitatif dilakukan dengan wawancara para tokoh Mandailing. Tujuan khusus untuk menghasilkan konsep dan ideologi yang dapat dimanfaatkan generasi muda untuk mengantisipasi pengaruh buruk dari negara asing yang bertentangan dengan prinsip hidup kita.

Abstract

In this study, the researchers analyze the forms of prejudice namely stereotype, social distance, and discrimination. This study aims to reveal that literary works reflect social reality. The object of this study is a novel entitled "An American Marriage". In this study the researchers have three problems to discuss: how is the stereotype as a form of prejudice portrayed in Tayari Jones’s novel An American Marriage, how is the social distance as a form of prejudice portrayed in Tayari Jones’s novel An American Marriage, and how is the discrimination as a form of prejudice portrayed in Tayari Jones’s novel An American Marriage. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data is obtained from words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that relate to stereotypes, social distance, and discrimination.

Abstract

This study entitledDeconstruction of Leading Characters in ZootopiaMovie Script. This study discussed about Deconstruction of characters which aimed to deconstruct the opposition of major and minor characters in the movie script Zootopia, and also devalue the major and minor characters to be the new hierarchy. This research is based on the Deconstruction theory proposed by Jacques Derrida (Rodalphe Gasche : 1988), which systematize the steps in doing deconstruction analysis from the identifying the opposition hierarchy in the text that systematically privileged, then change or reverse that hierarchy, and the last was introduced a new term or idea, which apparently cannot be included in the page of old hierarchy category. The method used in this study was the descriptive qualitative method. The result of this research is uncovering the deeply complex foundation that is difficult to make sense, because there is no general truth or the permanent personality of each character, there will be the other side of character that can produced a new hierarchy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out  the main character’s revenge portrayed in the novel, the factors that causes revenge, and how the main character takes his revenge. This thesis uses revenge theories by Baron, Byrne, and Branscombe to analyze revenge as a form or behavior of act of someone repaying the actions of other in hopes of getting a better feeling. In completing the analysis, the writer used descriptive-qualitative research method by Miles and Huberman which represents all data in forms of words and sentences. Based on the analysis it can be found that this novel portraying the revenge by the main character stop them from escaping the city. The revenge in this novel carried out by the main character is very unusual and unexpected, yet very logic. Usually, people will try to hurt the other parties who hurt them, but in this novel, the main character go with different approach, by arriving to the world early than it supposed to be, resulting the mother and uncle failed to escape the police officer.

Abstract

This research is on literary criticsm which discusses on women’s existences in fighting against gender inequality. The source of data is taken from novel entitled Layangan Putus whose the main character as the woman, called Kinan. Techniques of collecting data uses literature review and library research. While the data analysis uses the interactice models by data condensation, display, and conclusion. Findings showed that there are three existences of the woman to fight the gender inequality, namely being a worker to prosper herself, being a well-educated woman to solve the problems with her ex-husband, to control her feelings while raising her children, and being a social transformer to keep her head facing on the past life, giving lessons to learn by women who fight against gender inequality such as stereotype, subordination, domestic violence, and double burden. To conclude, women should also prioritize themselves eventhough they get married and never limit their existences to live and to decide their own life.
