Abstract

Introduction: Obesity prevalence is estimated increases, reached 19.1% of the population aged 15 years and over. This study aimed to determine the differences of the anti- obesity effect of orlistat, an extract of green coffee beans (Coffea canephora robusta), and its combination to the adiponectin levels and lipid profile.Method: This research was true experimental post -test only with control group design with completely randomized design (CRD). Experimental animals (Rattus novergicus) were divided into 6 group, group 1 ( negative control ), group 2 ( positive control ), group 3 was group of obese rats fed orlistat dose of 15.9 mg/kg, group 4 was the group of obese rats were fed ethanol extract of green coffee beans dose of 400 mg/kg, group 5 was the group of obese rats were given water extract of green coffee beans dose of 400 mg/kg, and group 6 was group of obese rats were fed a combination of orlistat dose of 15.9 mg/kg and ethanol extract of green coffee beans at a dose of 400 mg/kg. Lipid profi les and adiponectin levels were measured with a spectrophotometer at 500nm absorbance. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, and then post hoc Least Significant Difference (LSD) with α = 0.05.Results: Ethanol extract of green coffee is more effi cient in lowering LDL cholesterol, increasing HDL cholesterol, and lowering the total cholesterol levels on HFD diet-induced mice, but there was no difference in lowering triglycerides . The combination of ethanol extract of green coffee with orlistat showedthe increasing of adiponectin levels were highest than the other treatment groups. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of green coffee readily diffuses through the digestive tract epithelium. Green coffee contains chlorogenic acid active compounds that can increase the body’s metabolism, increase fatty acid oxidation, reduce levels of triglycerides in the liver, and working to inhibit lipase and amylase pancreaticenzymes. In addition to chlorogenic acid, polyphenol content in coffee is also potentially reduce visceral fat accumulation. Abstract

Lead is a heavy metal with hazardous toxicity causing dysfunction, especially the kidneys as excretion organs. Pb pollution in Indonesia is mostly derived from transportation emissions such as Tetraetillead, which can change into trietillead, a free radical that can reduce endogenous enzyme activity, one of which is SOD pollution. (Superoxide dismutase) which is in various organs, especially the kidneys. A decrease in SOD activity in the kidneys indicates oxidative stress because the enzyme is unable against superoxide anions and causes renal glomerular damage. Kidney damage can increase serum creatinine levels. Papaya juice contains flavonoids, vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene can prevent nephrotoxicity of Pb. The study aimed to obtain the best dose of papaya juice on the SOD activity of Wistar rats kidney tissue and serum creatinine level that exposed by lead acetate. The experiment was conducted experimentally with Completely Randomized Design, which was divided into 6 treatments, P1, P2, P3, of papaya juice, Lead ace with dose: 3.6; 7.2; 14.4 g / 200g of weight and exposed to Pb acetate 50 mg/kg weight. Treatment P4 (rats were given vitamin E 400 IU/kg weight and exposure to Pb acetate 50 mg/kg weight), P5 (rat exposed Pb acetate 50 mg/kg weight), P6 (normal mice) for 28 days. The results showed that papaya juice was the best dose of 14.4 g / 200g weight because the SOD activity of renal tissue was increased, and serum creatinine level decreased significantly. The conclusion is papaya juice can be used to prevent Pb acetate nephrotoxicity.

Abstract

Background: ICU patients with critical conditions are generally intubated due to their inability to breathe independently. These patients require assistance from nurses in meeting their basic needs, one of which is oral hygiene. ICU nurses use several protocols when doing oral hygiene in intubated patients. Purpose: This study was conducted to reveal the trend of research on oral hygiene in intubated patients in the last two decades through bibliometric analysis. Methods: This study is a quantitative research. The research publications were collected from the Scopus and PubMed databases through the Publish or Perish application. Then, for further analysis, the VOSViewer application was used to create visualization maps of co-occurring terms that include the research themes. Results: There were a total of 88 publications from two databases in the last two decades that discussed oral hygiene in intubated patients. Visualization in VOSViewer illustrates five main clusters on oral hygiene-intubated patients. Most of the publication themes were oral hygiene protocols and the relationship between the oral hygiene and VAP incidence. However, suction toothbrush as one of the oral hygiene protocol did not appear in the co-occurring terms in the first search; therefore, the researchers conducted a separate search about this term. Conclusions: Based on the analysis, the most common themes used are oral hygiene protocols and the relationship between oral hygiene and VAP in the last two decades. However, research on suction toothbrush as one of the protocols is still lacking, so it can be used as a novelty in conducting further research.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and glucose intolerance caused by metabolic disturbances in insulin production, insulin action, or both. Herbal plants might be used to cure this disease. Previous research discovered that herbal plants, such as aloe vera, are more effective at decreasing the risk of diabetes because they have hypoglycemia features and can reduce blood glucose levels. Objective: This systematic review aims to investigate the potential of aloe vera as a dietary additive that can minimize the risk of diabetes, especially diabetes mellitus. Methods: The study's design was a systematic review utilizing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) technique, which searched for articles published between 2013 and 2023 in electronic databases such as Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct. These articles were then extracted by analyzing the titles and abstracts for topical relevance. Results: The five articles selected indicate that aloe vera has the potential as an additional food ingredient to reduce blood glucose levels by utilizing aloe vera's hypoglycemic content and maintaining endurance in the body to prevent diabetes. Aloe vera's aloe-emodin content activates insulin and improves the rate of glycogen synthesis, proving it effective for lowering blood sugar levels. In addition to aloe-emodin, aloe vera contains chromium, which helps in the activation of insulin secretion by pancreatic cells and the increased supply chain of glucose into cells by the insulin hormone. As an outcome, it will increase the number of insulin receptors on the cell membrane, enabling insulin to bind to cells. While insulin production increases, glucose production by the liver reduces, and blood glucose drops. Conclusion: As a result, it can be concluded that consuming aloe vera can lower blood glucose levels and thus minimize the risk of diabetes, especially diabetes mellitus. Keywords: Blood sugar levels, aloe vera, type II diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a food additive that is often used as a flavor and aroma enhancer in processed foods. Several studies have shown that consuming high amounts of MSG can affect body health and cause symptoms such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, excessive sweating, and high blood pressure in some sensitive people. In addition, several studies have also found that MSG consumption can increase the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disorders. Objective: This systematic review aims to determine the effect of using monosodium glutamate (MSG) in food on the health of the body so that readers can make wise decisions in choosing foods that are healthy and safe for consumption. Method: Using the PRISMA method, search for journals in electronic databases published on Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect that were published from 2013 to 2023. These articles were then extracted, taking into account the titles and abstracts to determine their suitability for the topics discussed. Results: Of the 8 selected articles, it shows that monosodium glutamate used in food has a bad influence on body health. Glutamic acid contained in MSG can increase body weight and damage liver and kidney function if consumed above the safe limit, which is 30 mg/kg/day of body weight. When MSG is used every day, it can cause symptoms of headache (85.8 mg/kg), increased insulin (> 143 mg/kg), and increased blood pressure (150 mg/kg). Conclusion: Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is an additive commonly used as a flavor enhancer in food. Consuming excessive MSG can increase the risk of various health problems, but the use of MSG in moderate and controlled amounts does not have a negative impact on the health of the body.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Adolescents are one of the groups with a high risk of developing anemia. One of the causes of anemia is a lack of hemoglobin in the blood, so iron intake is vital for the body to make hemoglobin. Previous studies have shown that honey consumption has a positive impact on increasing hemoglobin levels. However, more research is required to determine whether honey eating can raise hemoglobin levels in female adolescents. Objective: This systematic review's objective is to determine the effectiveness of honey as a herbal ingredient for increasing hemoglobin levels in female adolescents. Methods: This study used a systematic review which was processed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) technique. The articles included in this study were from electronic databases that published between 2013 and 2023 in Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed. The articles then extracted with due regard to the title and abstract to see their suitability for the topics discussed. Results: Out of the six papers chosen, it determined that honey increased hemoglobin levels in female adolescents. Honey contains very good nutrients to increase hemoglobin levels such as iron. The iron content contained in honey is needed to increase erythropoietin as a stimulus for erythrocyte production so that hemoglobin levels can increase. Conclusion: Consuming honey can increase hemoglobin levels in female adolescents because it contains a lot of iron, thereby minimizing the occurrence of anemia.

Abstract

Background: Brassica vegetables are a type of vegetable that is easy to find and widely consumed by people in Indonesia because of their high variety and relatively cheap prices. Brassica vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, kale, and sprouts have a high antioxidant content due to their phenolic compounds. In general, Brassica vegetables are not consumed raw but through processing. The antioxidant compounds contained in brassica can be known depending on the processing method used. Various processing methods, one of which is the processing method using Air Frying. Objective: The purpose of this Systematic Review study was to examine the use of Air Frying in Brassica vegetables to increase the content of phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Method: The design used in this study is a systematic literature review (SLR) using the preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) method by searching journals in electronic databases published on Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct, which have been published since from 2013 to 2023. These articles were then extracted by paying attention to the titles and abstracts to see their suitability for the topics discussed. Results: The 5 selected articles show that hot air frying technology makes the nutritional quality of food higher than conventional frying, and becomes a practical alternative for getting healthier fried foods because of the possibility of reducing fat, lipid degradation, and oxidation. Air frying is becoming a more suitable processing method for processing brassica vegetables. Frying with high-temperature air for a short time will prevent the nutritional content of vegetables during processing. Air fryers are capable of significantly increasing the TFC and TPC of brassica vegetables regardless of the variety. Conclusion: The application of Air Frying improves the phenolic and flavonoid status and antioxidant potential of selected Brassica Vegetables.
