Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women, and is the second highest cause of death from cancer worldwide. Early symptoms of breast cancer are lumps, changes in breast size, pain or swelling in the breast area. Cancer patients often experience various physical, psychological, and emotional challenges. Emotional regulation and resilience are two important psychological aspects in understanding cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional regulation and resilience levels in breast cancer patients at Bali Mandara Regional Hospital in 2025. This study was a quantitative study, using a descriptive correlative method, with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling used a purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 70 breast cancer patients. Data collection instruments were in the form of an emotional regulation questionnaire (ERQ) and a resilience scale (CD-RISC) that had been translated into Indonesian. Based on the results of the correlation with the Spearman Rank test, a significance value of 0,025 (p<α= 0,05) and a correlation coefficient value (r)= 0,268. This indicates a weak relationship between emotional regulation and resilience in breast cancer patients at Bali Mandara Regional Hospital in 2025. The stronger the emotional regulation, the higher the resilience in breast cancer patients.

Abstract

Background: Excessive gadget use among adolescents may disrupt sleep patterns and reduce sleep quality. Blue light exposure and stimulating digital activities before bedtime can interfere with circadian rhythms and delay sleep onset. This study aimed to examine the relationship between gadget use and sleep patterns among students at SMA PGRI 2 Denpasar. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed, involving 145 students aged 14–19 years selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via online questionnaires assessing gadget usage (duration and frequency) and sleep behaviors (sleep duration, quality, and disturbances). Spearman Rank correlation was used for statistical analysis. Results: Most respondents used gadgets for more than 2.5 hours daily, especially before bedtime. While 69.0% reported appropriate gadget use duration, 86.9% experienced poor sleep patterns. A significant negative correlation was found between gadget use duration and sleep patterns (r = –0.270; p = 0.001), indicating that longer usage was associated with poorer sleep. However, the frequency of gadget use showed a weak, non-significant positive correlation (r = 0.127; p = 0.129). Conclusion: Gadget use duration significantly affects adolescent sleep patterns, while usage frequency does not. Sleep hygiene education and behavioral interventions are recommended to reduce bedtime gadget use and improve sleep quality.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension, a non-communicable disease, is defined by a systolic pressure of ≥ 140 mmHg and/or a diastolic pressure of ≥ 90 mmHg. Factors contributing to hypertension include alcohol consumption and diets high in salt and saturated fats. This study aims to explore the relationship between community cultural practices and the occurrence of hypertension. Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. A probability sampling technique, specifically stratified random sampling, was used to select 90 participants who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: The findings revealed that most respondents' cultural practices were categorized as poor (29 participants, 32.2%), followed by normal (17 participants, 18.9%), good (16 participants, 17.8%), very poor (15 participants, 16.7%), and very good (13 participants, 14.4%). Regarding hypertension severity, the majority of respondents experienced grade 1 hypertension (61 participants, 67.8%), while 29 participants (32.2%) had grade 2 hypertension. The study identified a significant relationship between community culture and hypertension incidence, with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of increasing public awareness and educating hypertension patients about cultural practices that elevate the risk of hypertension, such as consuming alcohol and diets rich in salt and saturated fats.
