Abstract

Dental and oral health services for elementary school students aged 6 to 12 years have not been optimal. This shows that the implementation of SDHE has not succeeded. Monitoring and evaluation of the performance of SDHE are complex because the reporting system of SDHE all this time is conducted manually at the end of the year using a form combined with the report of the health center. The website-based SDHE management model is an information system that can be used to report the activities of SDHE directly and monitor and evaluate the activities of SDHE to fit the targets that have been set. The study aimed to develop the SDHE management model's innovations with relevant/appropriate information systems to increase the effectiveness and efficiency in the implementation of SDHE in elementary school students. Methods: Research and Development (R&D) and model trials using the technique of pre-experimental. The respondents amounted to 48 populations which consist of 24 dental therapists and 24 teachers, to assess the quality of SDHE management and the quality of information systems in the implementation of SDHE management. The result of the design of the model was tested for validation by an expert. The data were tested using paired difference test, proportion test, and linear regression test. Result: Validation by expert result the average value of 92, the category is very feasible, and with a p-value of 0,014. After the intervention, the E-SDHE information system's quality also improved compared to before (p = 0.001). Respondent's assessment stated that the quality of the E-SDHE information system in the excellent category.  The SDHE management model of elementary schools based on the website provides a significant increase in SDHE management quality and the quality of information systems in the excellent category. The SDHE of website-based in this study can be used to evaluate elementary school health managemen

Abstract

Dental health problems occur in many communities, including mental retardation in children with all of their intellectual limitations, social behavior, and sometimes the weakness in motor coordination. The study aimed to develop and to examine the effectiveness of the behavior change therapy model as an alternative to improving the tooth brushing behavior among children with mental retardation. The Research and Development (R&D) approach was applied in this study. The quasi-Experimental, Pre-test, and Post-test with the non-equivalent control group for examining the effect of the model on health outcome. The research subjects of mental retardation children were divided into the intervention group and the control group. Experts tested by the intervention group validated the model development. Expert validation of the behavior change therapy model gets an average of 86.67 (very decent) as an alternative to improving tooth brushing behavior among children with mental retardation with p-value<0.05. Other results found that the model effectively enhanced the knowledge, gesture, and tooth brushing skills in mental retardation children with p-value <0.05. The therapy model as an alternative strategy was useful and recommended improving tooth brushing behavior among mental retardation children

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Dental caries in children aged 5-9 reach 90.1%. This situation is due to the poor tooth brushing behavior of children. Smart Dental Alarm is a modification of Android-based early childhood dental hygiene education media which is equipped with various features to increase tooth brushing skills Objective: The aim of the research was to produce a “Smart Dental Alarm” application as a media for dental hygiene education to increase the skill of tooth brushing in early childhood. Methods: The research was undertaken with Research and Devoloment (R&D) method, while the model assesment used Quasy-Experimental Randomized Control Group of Pretest and Posttest Design. The number of research subjects was 33 children in each group, comprises group 1 as Intervention group with Smart Dental Alarmand group 2 as Control group with Power Point. Data were tested using ISO 9126, Shapiro Wilk, Freidman, and Man Whitney. Result: The results of this study indicate that Smart Dental Alarm is more effective in increasing the knowledge and behavior of the tooth brushing behavior in preschool children than using power point regarding the pre-test, post-test 1 and 2 which obtain p-Value in 0.000. Conclusion: Smart Dental Alarm is more effective in increasing tooth brushing skill and reducing caries in early age children than power points. Key Words: Early age children, Smart Dental Alarm,Tooth brushing skill
