Abstract

Abstrak: Pada saat ini teknologi berkembang dengan sangat pesat. Perkembangan ini dapat dimanfaatkan guru dan siswa untuk kegiatan pengajaran / pembelajaran melalui teknologi Blended Learning. Salah satu bentuk dari teknologi ini adalah melalui M-Learning (Mobile Learning) yang dapat membantu siswa untuk belajar di mana saja dan kapan saja. Penyuluhan ini diadakan di daerah Cilamaya Jawa Barat sekitar 150 km dari Jakarta. Peserta berjumlah 8 orang guru dari berbagai SMP. Tujuan utama dari Pengmas ini adalah untuk memberikan penyuluhan penggunaan aplikasi yang terdapat dalam telepon genggam yaitu Line untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini adalah power point, contoh RPP/ lesson plan, dan diskusi interaktif. Pada penyuluhan dihari kedua peserta diharuskan membawa contoh RPP / lesson plan sederhana yang mereka buat sendiri dan akan dipraktekan di aplikasi Line. Melalui program pelatihan ini diharapkan guru dapat menyelesaikan bahan mata pelajaran tepat waktu dan memberikan tambahan pelajaran dengan cara yang lebih menarik dan interaktif. Para peserta pelatihan tidak mengalami kesulitan memahami apa yang sudah dijelaskan oleh nara sumber mengenai pembuatan RPP/ lesson plan. Peserta antusias dalam mengikuti semua kegiatan dan akan mempraktekannya dalam mengajar.Abstract: Nowadays, technology has been developing very rapidly. Teachers and students can utilize this development for teaching/ learning activities through Blended Learning technology. One form of this technology is through M-Learning (Cellular Learning), which can help students to learn anywhere and anytime. The workshop was carried out in the Cilamaya area of West Java, around 200 km from Jakarta. The participants attending this activity were eight teachers from various junior high schools in Cilamaya and Cikampek. The primary purpose of this Community Service/ Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat is to provide some short training on how to utilize cell phone application Line to improve students’ English ability. The instruments used in this training were: PowerPoint, examples of lesson plan, and interactive discussions. In the second meeting, participants were required to make their Rpp/ lesson plans that would be applied in the Line application. Through this training program, teachers are expected to be able to complete the subject matter and provide additional lessons that are more interesting and interactive. Participants did not have any problem with what had been discussed by presenters on writing their lesson plans. Moreover, they were enthusiastic about participating in this activity and would implement the application in their teaching.

Abstract

Writing is a challenging activity that comprises a complex cognitive process, as well as various strategies. Furthermore, minimal research has been performed on using writing strategies among High School students in the EFL context, specifically in Indonesia. Although the applications of effective strategies have been evidenced to be helpful, many students are not aware of using them to alleviate their writing quality. Therefore, this study aims at investigating English L2 strategies when writing recount texts using three skilled English students. This is a qualitative research that utilized purposive sampling and the instruments employed were Think-Aloud Protocols (TAPs), observation, retrospective, and semi-structured interviews. Following the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained from these instruments, the acquired results demonstrated that they used similar writing strategies. However, the occurrences from this use differed from one individual to another as some were unaware that the writing process was recursive and not linear. Therefore, this study implies that students need to be encouraged to apply different strategies to develop their writing, and teachers also, were required to explicitly teach these strategies as it will lead students to use them effectively. Training on the use of writing strategies is needed for Indonesian students to support and help them write efficiently in English.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi keyakinan guru tentang siswa muda, bagaimana keyakinan ini berdampak pada praktik pengajaran mereka, dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi keyakinan dan praktik pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini melibatkan empat guru bahasa Inggris sekolah dasar yang berpengalaman di Bekasi, Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi kasus dan mengumpulkan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan analisis dokumen. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para guru memiliki pemahaman yang kuat tentang karakteristik siswa muda dan percaya bahwa mereka dapat mencapai tujuan pembelajaran bahasa melalui berbagai cara. Mereka menggunakan metode interaktif di dalam kelas, memadukan materi berbasis kurikulum, bahasa Inggris, dan bahasa kedua para siswa. Peran guru, pengetahuan, pengalaman, dan kepercayaan diri merupakan lima faktor kunci yang mempengaruhi keyakinan dan praktik guru. Secara khusus, penelitian ini menyoroti pentingnya pedagogi guru di kelas bahasa.

Abstract

This study sought to find effective communication stimulation methods for preschoolers with speech impairments. One preschool's 35 children, teachers, and parents were surveyed and interviewed qualitatively. Game-based learning, flashcards, and interactive technology were the most effective methods. The game-based method helps kids correlate words with real activities or objects, improving language comprehension and memory. Visual aids assist youngsters focus and prevent confusion, while learning applications and educational videos provide compelling visual and auditory stimuli to study at their own pace. The strategy also relied on teacher-parent collaboration. Parents' play-based activities at home and school intervention programs accelerated children's speech improvement. However, the study found several limitations, such as keeping short-attention-span children's attention. Overcoming these problems requires more flexible and adaptable strategy improvements. This study recommends a more structured and inclusive intervention approach that can be adjusted to each child's needs including teacher and parent training. Future study should examine how new and innovative technology affect children's language development and how home and school contexts affect it.

Abstract

The use of the storytelling method at STITTA Bondowoso is investigated to measure its effectiveness in improving the English speaking skills of students. This research aims to examine the enhancement of students' speaking abilities through the implementation of the Storytelling method. The study falls under the category of qualitative research. The data in this study consist of students' storytelling discourse, with the data source being students enrolled in English courses at STITTA Bondowoso. The method used to collect data is the observe-participate-transcribe method. The researcher observed the context of English language learning in the classroom, particularly related to the Storytelling method. Additionally, interviews were conducted with English language instructors, students, and relevant parties at STITTA regarding the implementation and impact of the Storytelling method on improving students' speaking abilities, supplemented with recording and note-taking techniques. The collected data were then reduced and classified based on their types. Subsequently, data analysis and in-depth interpretation were conducted. The research results indicate that 1) STITTA students experience a significant improvement in speaking abilities in English learning; 2) students feel happy, enthusiastic, and entertained in learning English; 3) students are motivated to compete in English learning; and 4) students are eager to compete for achievements. The findings of this research demonstrate a positive correlation between the use of storytelling techniques and the improvement of students' speaking abilities. The depth and inherent appeal in the storytelling process not only enhance language retention but also create a more interactive and dynamic learning environment. The implications of this research have broad impacts, involving language educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers. This research emphasizes the urgency of integrating innovative methods and experiences to enhance speaking abilities in the context of language education. The contribution of this research lies in strengthening the discourse on effective language pedagogy, emphasizing the importance of adopting diverse and interactive teaching strategies to meet the evolving needs of students in the language learning process.
