Abstract

This research focused on the use of portofolio as the strategy of the teaching and learning process. The resercher limited on one typical of portofolio used in this research, namely summarizing. However, it was found that most of the learning process in STKIP PGRI Jombang used group presentation. It was also done by the researcher in Belajar Pembelajaran subject. The researcher would like to apply the use of portofolio in group presentation. To investigate the effectiveness of the strategy used , the writer conducted a quasi-experimental research design which there were two groups, experimental group and control group. The subject of  the research was 37 students of 2014 A as the experimental group and 31 students of 2014 B as the control group. In collecting the data, the researcher gave posttest to both groups. In which the experimental group used portofolio in the treatment. After having the data, then the researcher analyzed it by using ANCOVA. And the result shows that the significant value is higher than significant level (0,429 > 0.05). It means that the use of portofolio does not have significant effect applied in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This research focuses on the use of Kahoot as a media in teching reading for the English Departement students of STKIP PGRI Jombang in academic year 2017/2018. The method used is experimental research with quasi experimental design. There are two classes, they are 2016 B as the experimental class and 2016 A as the control class. The teaching process done in experimental class was using Kahoot as a media, while in 2016 A was using textbook as a media. The instrument used was a test. Before giving the test, the researchers did the content validity and construct validity by conducting the tryout to know the validity and reliability criteria of the test. After knowing all of them are valid and reliable, giving pre test, treatment, and post test was done to get the data of the research. After that, the researchers analyzed the data by using ANCOVA. The result shows that the significant value is 0.02, it is lower than the significant level 0.05. It means that the use of Kahoot as a media for the English Department students of STKIP PGRI Jombang influences their reading skill.

Abstract

This study examines the use of Mentimeter on students’ writing descriptive text in online learning at Hasyim Asy'ari University Tebuireng Jombang. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The subjects in this study were Management class students which consists of twenty-two students as the experimental class and Elementary School Teacher Program class students which consist of seventeen students as the control class in English for Specific Purposes course. The research instrument is an essay test, which will be given before (Pre Test) the treatment to determine students’ prior knowledge and after (Post Test) treatment to determine the effect of using Mentimeter. After analyzing the data using Mann-Whitney U Test, the results showed that there was a significant difference in the mean rank of 23.59 on the use of Mentimeter and 13.35 on the use of power point. The statistical test obtained Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.022, it is lower than the 0.05 level of significance. It means that the use of Mentimeter can influence students’ writing ability in online learning.DOI: 10.26905/enjourme.v7i1.7900

Abstract

Over the years, the teaching and learning of English have changed from conventional chalk and talk methods to modern methods that involve various platforms such as Quizizz, which is free and easy to use. This study attempts to explores on EFL learners’ perceptions on Quizizz in Literal Reading. Using the case study approach, a total of 30 EFL learners were identified in this research. The results show that EFL learners’ Perceptions look highly upon Quizizz and its implementation in the classroom because it brings many benefits to the learners, including improvement in language proficiency and learning abilities. As a final result, EFL learners’ Perceptions toward E-Learning Quizizz in Literal Reading it can be concluded that 60.8% of respondents agreed, 26.8% stated strongly agree and 12, 4% disagreed related to the using of Quizizz in Literal Reading.

Abstract

This research investigated the correlation between adult EFL students’ literal reading and paragraph writing. Since adult EFL learners in tertiary education learn about literal reading and paragraph writing in more detail, a more specific investigation on the literal and paragraph writing of adult EFL students has not been conducted. The researcher uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. This research followed by twenty-nine respondents from the second semester student in the English Department of STKIP PGRI Jombang. The participant was taken by using a purposive sampling technique. In the data were taken by using reading and writing tests which were developed by the lecturers. The data collected were then analysed by using non-parametric Spearman’s rho with the help of SPSS version 22. The results of the data analysis showed the value of Sig (2-tailed) .037. and the value of correlational coefficient was .388. Those values indicated a significant positive yet low correlation between adult EFL students’ literal reading and paragraph writing.

Abstract

Technology media use in teaching is needed to speed the transformation of knowledge to students. This research focuses on knowing the students' response to using Mentimeter as media in teaching writing descriptive text. This research used qualitative analysis studies with the case study approach. This research was conducted in SMP Islam Al Madinah Jombang. The variable observed in this study is students' perception of using Mentimeter learning media in learning English to write descriptions. The instrument used to collect the data is a close-ended questionnaire with 20 statements. Interactive data analysis models Miles and Huberman used to analyze the data; are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The analysis shows that the Mentimeter media can help students in writing activities, especially descriptive text. It can be seen from the students' responses that Mentimeter has many features to comment on in writing, the students can get new knowledge from their friends' writing because all students can access it, and the students can practice writing descriptively based on the picture given. From the result of the questionnaire, most of the students agree with all the statements mentioned.

Abstract

The purpose of conducting this research was to investigate the effectiveness of using Team Pair Solo Strategy in teaching writing descriptive text for the second-grade students in SMPN 2 Peterongan. Team Pair Solo Strategy is kind of cooperative learning strategy where the students do a task in group, in pair, and individually. The subjects of this research were 8-A and 8-B which consist of 32 students. Pre-test and post-test were given to both of experimental and control class. For the treatments, the students of experimental class were taught by using Team Pair Solo Strategy. In contrast, the students of control class were taught by Conventional Strategy. Post-test was given after giving the treatments. The result showed that F value was 4.955 than F table was 3.99. It was clearly shown that F value was higher than the F table (4.955>3.99). It means that Ha was accepted. Based on the proven hypotheses, the researcher can conclude that the using of Team Pair Solo Strategy in teaching writing descriptive text for the second-grade students in SMPN 2 Peterongan was proven effective.

Abstract

Reading is crucial learning activity which mostly makes students bored. To build interactive activity, Quick on the Draw (QOTD) is useful technique that group working is the prior aspect should be done by the students. So that, the researcher interested to investigate whether the students taught by using QOTD have better achievement in reading recount text than the students taught by conventional technique in SMP Negeri 2 Megaluh. This research used quasi experimental design especially nonequivalent control group design which experimental and control group are included. By giving the same pre-test and post-test and different teaching learning process, the research data was collected. The data was analyzed by using ANCOVA SPSS 16.0. By calculating the post-test for both control and experimental group, it was gained F value 6.009. It was meant 6.009 >4.03, the F value is greater than F critical value. And the significance value was 0.018 which is lower than the significance level, 0.018 < 0.05. It could be concluded that Quick on the Draw is effective in teaching reading recount text at the eight students of SMP Negeri 2 Megaluh and the Hypothesis Alternative (Ha) was accepted.
