Abstract

Human resources Management is very crucial in the hospitality industry due to its nature of being labour-intensive. One factor that determines the company's performance is employee productivity, and it is related to the training provided to the employees and their work-life balance. The preliminary studies show that 52.3% of the employees at the resort did not receive their desired holiday rights. There were also complaints about their poor services. The population used in this research is all full-time employees of the five-star resort Bali, 73 employees. The sampling technique used is saturated sampling by taking all the populations as samples. Data is analyzed with the statistical software PLS SEM 4.0. The results of the study indicate that training influences employee productivity positively, while work-life balance does not influence nor moderate employee productivity positively. Therefore, the five-star resort should increase its training activities to improve employee productivity. Since the influence of training on employee productivity is very small by 7.2%, it is suggested that the resort explores other variables that might influence employee productivity such as work discipline, compensation, and employee motivation.

Abstract

The hospitality industry is growing rapidly, driven by global tourism and increasing service demand. The rapid growth of the tourism industry has also encouraged the emergence of tourism schools that aim to produce skilled workers in this field. However, only 30% of tourism and hospitality school graduates work in the industry. Most graduates are not interested in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry after they complete their internship program or graduate from college. This PKM aims for the leaders of the Aryaduta Medan Hotel department to better understand: (1) things that cause graduates to be uninterested in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry (2) ways to increase the intention of interns to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. To achieve this goal, the resource person collaborated with Hotel Aryaduta Medan in the seminar “Increasing the Intention of Interns to Work at Hotel Aryaduta Medan” to explain this. The seminar will begin with a presentation session by the resource person, followed by a focus group discussion session, and close with a conclusion and recommendations session. Based on the results of the focus group discussion, it was found that the causes of the low intention of interns to work in the hospitality industry were their personality did not match the work culture at the hotel, overtime hours, and lack of balance between personal life and work. Hotel management is advised to conduct a feedback questionnaire to better understand the personality and challenges faced by interns. Management as practitioners could collaborate with schools to provide a preview of works at a hotel in one or several lecture sessions. Management is also advised to reduce overtime hours and provide a proportional workload for interns.

Abstract

Youth entrepreneurship contributes to the social, cultural, and economic development of society, especially in many developing countries. The idea of encouraging young people to start businesses for a variety of reasons is now widely encouraged. However, there are many challenges and doubts faced in starting a business particularly after the Covid-19 is over. Therefore, the community service was carried out by lecturers at Business School, Universitas Pelita Harapan Medan Campus, providing the onsite seminar and training to 70 high school students at Santo Nicholas School in February 2023. The purpose of the community service was to encourage the students to plan their business projects by presenting data and information on the latest trends and issues in entrepreneurship and finance, as well as conducting one-to-one sessions with the students. Most of the students were enthusiastic throughout the activities resulting in several business plans and proposals being created at the end of the community service. It is implied that young people are indeed motivated to begin their entrepreneurship journey and school is the right place for them to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. Teachers and parents are suggested to continue to assist the students by providing the commitment and funding required to begin and sustain the business.

Abstract

The rapid growth of online travel agencies (OTAs) and the increasing reliance on digital platforms for travel bookings have significantly transformed consumer behavior in the travel industry. Despite the growth of OTAs, Tiket.com has faced problems like system errors and difficult website navigation that made customers hesitate to make purchases. By adapting the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research investigates the moderating role of trust between perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and purchase intention at Tiket.com. A quantitative approach was employed, with the data collected using a convenience sampling technique. The sample consisted of 110 respondents, and the data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that perceived usefulness significantly and positively influences purchase intention, with a path coefficient of 0.507 and a p-value of 0.000. Conversely, perceived ease of use did not influence purchase intention, with a path coefficient of 0.067 and a p-value of 0.250. Additionally, the moderation of trust was found to be insignificant among these relationships. Tiket.com is suggested to focus on improving its perceived usefulness by increasing users' empowerment in selecting travel options, improving the user experience, providing enhanced customization features, and easy-to-use comparison tools.
