Abstract

English as an international language is an important language to be proficient in since it is used all over the globe. English is not an easy language to learn. Understanding phrases or expressions is very important when speaking English. The foundation for making sentences in English is to first understand words that are often used in everyday life (everyday vocabulary) and being able to effectively construct sentences that can be understood by others is a prerequisite for being able to compose sentences in English. The method used in the implementation of community service at SMPI Darul Muminin Bekasi school is the visual method and English card. The method of forming sentences using English cards emphasizes the ability of students to understand sentences using learnt vocabulary that is used to be assembled in a plot of a story. The application of the game technique method of composing sentences using English cards is considered very effective and fun, it is hoped that one day this method can be used as a model to develop learning activities in the classroom.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the variable influence of brand image, product design and distribution on Pempek gaaby products in Bekasi. The research uses a quantitative method, which is also known as a statistical approach with SPSS tools, using a multiple linear regression method by distributing closed questionnaires to 100 respondents who visited Pempek gaby. The SPSS output results show that taste, product design and distribution have a positive impact on competitive adventage.

Abstract

The capacity to converse is a person's communication talent. In the classroom, English acts as a tool for communication to gather information, and in real-world situations, it is used to build relationships and communicate information. The ineffective teaching strategies utilized by teachers during the learning process contribute to the poor results of English learning. Role-playing is the technique employed in this activity, which is one of the language learning techniques in the application of communication that can forge relationships in social interactions and learning to boost student accomplishment orally in the use of language that includes meaning. There are three steps to this activity's execution. Students are provided a theoretical explanation by the teacher in the initial step. Role-playing techniques are used in English learning and are thought to be very successful. In the process, a number of noteworthy benefits of the role-playing approach of this learning were discovered relative to its drawbacks. Students find role-playing to be an acceptable and enjoyable technique of learning. The participants gained enthusiasm, motivation, and self-assurance in their ability to communicate in English.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Humor is a universal phenomenon found across cultures; however, the mechanisms underlying its construction particularly in written form tend to be more complex than those of spoken humor due to the absence of nonverbal contextual cues. This study aims to examine how humorous effects in written texts are constructed through violations of Grice’s cooperative principle from a pragmatic perspective. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using 15 humor texts selected from the book Aneka Kisah dan Gambar Hua Ha Ha as the data source. The data were analyzed through stages of identification, classification, and interpretation of maxim violations and their relation to the emergence of humor. The findings indicate that violations of the maxim of relevance are the most dominant pattern in generating humor, particularly through mismatches between responses and expected contexts. In addition, violations of the maxims of quality, quantity, and manner were also identified, contributing to humorous effects through strategies such as wordplay, hyperbole, exaggeration, and the use of implicature. Overall, maxim violations do not merely represent communicative deviations but function as deliberate rhetorical strategies to produce unexpected meanings. Thus, written humor can be understood as a linguistic practice that relies on the manipulation of context and reader expectations to create humorous effects. ABSTRAK Humor merupakan fenomena universal yang hadir dalam berbagai budaya, namun mekanisme pembentukannya, khususnya dalam bentuk tertulis, sering kali lebih kompleks dibandingkan humor lisan karena keterbatasan konteks nonverbal. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana efek kelucuan dalam humor tertulis dibangun melalui pelanggaran prinsip kerja sama Grice dalam perspektif pragmatik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan sumber data berupa 15 teks humor yang diambil dari buku “Aneka Kisah dan Gambar Hua Ha Ha”. Data dianalisis melalui tahapan identifikasi, klasifikasi, dan interpretasi bentuk pelanggaran maksim serta keterkaitannya dengan kemunculan efek humor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelanggaran maksim relevansi merupakan pola yang paling dominan dalam menciptakan kelucuan, terutama melalui ketidaksesuaian antara respons dan konteks yang diharapkan. Selain itu, ditemukan pula pelanggaran maksim kualitas, kuantitas, dan cara yang berkontribusi terhadap efek humor melalui strategi seperti wordplay, hiperbola, eksagerasi, serta penggunaan implicature. Secara keseluruhan, pelanggaran maksim tidak sekadar menunjukkan deviasi komunikasi, tetapi berfungsi sebagai strategi retoris yang disengaja untuk menghadirkan kejutan makna. Dengan demikian, humor tertulis dapat dipahami sebagai praktik linguistik yang mengandalkan manipulasi konteks dan ekspektasi pembaca guna menghasilkan efek kelucuan.
