Abstract

Sanggar Baca Jendela Dunia (SBJD) yang berlokasi di RT 01 RW 02 Legoso Ciputat Timur didirikan atas dasar keprihatinan terhadap rendahnya minat baca anak-anak di lingkungan setempat. Atas pertimbangan hal tersebut, SBJD pun kemudian berupaya untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi anak-anak. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan PkM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan soft skill sekaligus mendorong dan meningkatkan kemampuan literasi digital melalui variasi kegiatan yang edukatif dan menyenangkan untuk menarik minat para peserta didik/santri SBJD. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan PkM ini dilaksanakan melalui kegiatan mendongeng digital  yang dikembangkan melalui diskusi, bermain, dan bernyanyi. Selain itu, asesmen dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan aplikasi whiteboard.fi yang menuntun para santri memperoleh pengetahuan dan keterampilan terkait digital literasi. Kegiatan PkM diikuti oleh 30 santri dengan rentang usia 4-12 tahun. Dari hasil kegiatan PkM, para santri mengikuti rangkaian kegiatan dengan antusias tinggi dan ceria. Kemampuan literasi para santri ditunjukkan dengan penggunaan Zoom sebagai media pelaksanaan kegiatan, Power Point sebagai media presentasi dongeng dan materi penguatan dan pengembangan tentang dongeng, serta asesmen dengan aplikasi Whiteboard.fi yang memungkinkan para santri untuk bereksperimen. Selain itu, melalui dongeng yang disampaikan, para peserta juga mendapat pendidikan karakter sehingga terbentuknya rasa percaya diri, menjadi pribadi yang bersyukur, dan saling menghormati.

Abstract

The higher education community got significant challenges due to the raised of the Covid-19 pandemic around the globe. A full teaching and learning online has to be taken as the urgent alternation of the face-to-face university courses. Therefore, this research points at describing the advantages of using web-based learning and the students’ perceptions towards the techniques used. Furthermore, this research also aims to know the students ability to do self-assessment by using web-based exercises. The students’ grammar understanding would also be described in this research. Descriptive design was applied as the method to describe the students’ self-assessment in grammar web-based exercise. The data taken are quantitative and qualitative. Students’ perceptions are taken as qualitative data and the students’ grammar achievements are taken as the quantitative data. Thirty students of Advanced Grammar class are chosen as the data source. There are two instruments used in this research. They are the students’ grammar scores from web-based exercise and the questionnaire of students’ perception in grammar web-based exercise. The data are collected after the grammar class term ended. The research found that there are 55% of the students with their grammar mastery for the first half semester. However, there are 82, 8% of students that have a learning grammar mastery at the second half semester. It indicates that using web-based grammar exercise in teaching grammar can improve students’ achievement and mastery in learning grammar.

Abstract

This Community Service Activities (PKM) in Madina Zone, Jampang English Village, Jampang Bogor aims to improve students' speaking ability in English in public. This PKM uses English speaking training methods using Drama training medium by involving 30 respondents from the elementary or junior high school students who are from several elementary to junior high school students scattered in the Madina JEV Zone area. From the results of this PKM activity it was found that the English language training method with a mentoring approach, technical training in role playing and the practice of drama entitled "Red Riding Hood" had a positive impact on students' confidence and comfort in speaking English in public.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the subject-object and writer-reader positions in the short story "Sepasang Mata Dinaya yang Terpenjara" by Ni Komang Ariani. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The subject of this research is the storyteller, who is the one who tells the story to the reader. The object of this research is how Diyana's position as a child from childhood has been positioned as a person who only accepts reproaches from her mother without resistance and how her position in her husband's eyes is not considered her presence. This research data was collected by analyzing short stories published in Kompas newspaper on May 20, 2010, using Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis. This research's instrument is the researcher who captures the language style conveyed in the short story. The results of this study show how the subject-object position in the story where the object of the story is more likely to accept her condition, although there is a little resistance but only in his mind. While the subject-object position here is that the subject leads the reader to accept the author's ideas and sympathize with the object.

Abstract

Producing complex sentences is an important part of academic writing and effective communication in English. But many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners struggle repeatedly with grammar when they are trying to construct complex sentences. The present study aims at investigating the grammatical errors in the use of complex sentences of undergraduate students in English Literature and the factors leading to these errors. The study employed a qualitative case study design with 30 participants, including one English lecturer and 29 undergraduate students taking an academic writing course. The data were gathered from students’ written assignments, semi-structured interviews with the lecturer and selected students and classroom observations. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the collected data to identify the recurring patterns of grammatical errors and the factors influencing students’ performance. The results revealed a number of primary types of grammatical errors in the production of complex sentences. These included misapplication of subordinate conjunctions, errors in subject–verb agreement, inconsistency of tense, sentence fragments, run-on sentences, omission of vital grammatical components, and incorrect construction of a relative clause. Thematic analysis also showed four main themes for these mistakes: limited competence in grammar, influence of L1, limited practice on complex sentence construction, and problems in applying grammar knowledge in the context of academic writing task. The study concludes that the grammatical errors in the construction of complex sentences are caused not only by the lack of knowledge of English grammar, but also the difficulty of transferring the explicit knowledge of grammar to communicative writing practice. The results highlight the significance of integrating explicit grammar teaching with contextualized writing tasks, continuous formative feedback and collaborative learning approaches to improve students’ grammatical accuracy.
