Abstract

This research aims to discover the self-esteem portrayed in Akeelah and the Bee film by Doug Atchison. The film's theme is about Akeelah Anderson achieving success in a spelling bee competition and having a challenge to build her self-esteem. Self-esteem is a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. It significantly influences motivation, behavior, and overall well-being. Collectively these characters graphically portray a powerful theme regarding academic motivation. This study employs a qualitative approach which focuses on content analysis. The analysis of self-esteem is applied by using four aspects of Coopersimth’s self-esteem namely competence, power, significance, and virtue. Each aspect is elaborated based on the scripts and depicts self-esteem regarding the theory. As a result, Akeelah has all aspects of self-esteem in her personality that help her to achieve her goal. The important message sent to the audience is that Akeelah’s story demonstrates self-esteem is not something we are born with, but rather something we build through challenges, support from others, and a belief in our abilities

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda on the Youtube Channel. Code mixing has become a recent phenomenon, and is often used by young people today in their communications. One young person who often does code-mixing in these conversations is an actress, Maudy Ayunda. This might happen because he has an educational background abroad, namely English as his first language. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And for the analysis of the types of code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda, the authors apply Muysken and Hoffman's theory. From Muysken's theory, code mixing is divided into three parts, namely, insertion, substitution, and congruent lexicalization. Meanwhile, from Hoffman's theory, the type of code mixing is divided into three parts, namely intra-centential, intra-lexical, and involving changes in pronunciation. The results of the analysis of the two theories produce 39 data. The most dominant type of code mixing used in videos is alternation. Keywords : Code Mixing, Type of Code Mixing, Maudy Ayunda

Abstract

Feminism is a women's movement in seeking equality to be equal to men in any way, including relationships. In this study, the writers’ purpose of analyzing The Girl on the Train movie is to find out the kind of feminism, the causes of feminism that influence the main character, and the moral message contained in the movie. The writers use qualitative research methods in describing and analyzing this movie. The writers also do library research to find many references from books or the internet which are useful to support this paper, especially the theories. After analyzing the movie, the writers found one of four kinds of feminism which is Liberal Feminism. Liberal feminism is women's liberation about certain aspects of themselves or their lives. They claim that women have the same capacities as men, and have the same rational thinking as men. Another result, there are also two causes of feminism that influence the main character in this movie, namely betrayal, and domestic abuse. Besides that, this movie sends moral messages. This movie tells about women who are treated unfairly and experience many painful things in the relationship. The women must dare to defend themselves and fight men who are cruel to them. And every woman will help another woman in any situation, even if it threatens her.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social inequality portrayed in the Parasit movie directed by Bong Joon Ho. For research method, a qualitative approach is chosen to be applied which is content analysis as research design. In collecting the data, the writers use the Parasite movie as an object of the research, and search a lot of references from the internet and libraries to support the theories as baselines of analysis. Parasite movie depicts the two families’ lives, Park's family and Kim's family, where the social conditions and the daily lifestyles are very contrastive; the first family is rich and wealth and the later one is poor and deprivation. These social inequalities reflect a social phenomenon in the real world which becomes the motives for fraudulent and greedy character and gradually leads to criminal actions. The gaps between both families are demonstrated in some aspects, such as economy and work, education, house, food, and fashion. And the disparities shown by those elements indicate where the social class they belong and what the impact to their life.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze educational values from the Theory of Everything movie directed by James Marsh. It discusses about educational values that are shown in and depicted by Stephen Hawking. Educational values are never give up, self-confidence, love, friendly and polite, optimism, help each other, responsible and hard working. Theory of Everything is a perfect movie for analyzing educational values, as it tells about the life of Stephen hawking who tries keeping himself in fire even though there are so many inside and outside obstacles. Some scenes in this movie show in Educational values. After doing some processes of observation from many opinions of experts, journals, books, social media, Education value is education in the concerned with the development of the total personality of the individual intellectual, social, emotional, aesthetic, moral and spiritual. It involves developing sensitivity to the good, the right and the ability to choose the right values in accordance with the thought and action. So educational values that are shown by Stephen hawking can make us know how to be succeeded to reach our ambition.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the struggle of the main character namely Rocky in Don't Breathe Movie. The writer uses the descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the struggles of the main characters in Don't Breathe Movie written by Fede Álvarez to make paper arrangements correctly. The procedures that the writer takes to get the best results are observing and understanding the movie, collecting data consisting of struggles, choosing theories to analyze data, analyzing data using theories, making conclusions from the analysis, and finally compiling the final project. The results of this study are the writer finds three types of struggle namely; struggle for life, struggle for love and, internal struggle. The struggle of life when the main character in the movie survives with full force in any situation, the struggle of love when the character in the movie has a feeling of love with other characters, the internal struggle when the character in the movie has desires and problems in her life. This movie teaches humans about how important the struggle in life and make a better change, never give up and despair. The main character shows people that a struggle can be motivated by certain aspects. Keyword: Struggle, Main Character, Struggle of Life, Struggle of Love, Internal Struggle.

Abstract

Abstrak – Sistem Informasi Pembelajaran English Grammar Berbasis Web memilikimanfaatnya yang sangat penting dalam usaha untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris.Sebagaimana diketahui bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa internasional yang digunakan hampirdisemua aspek kehidupan dan merupakan kebutuhan yang sekarang ini tidak bisa dihindari. Salahsatu aspek dalam belajar bahasa Inggris adalah dengan mempelajari grammar. Grammarmenentukan bagaimana kata-kata disusun dalam membentuk unit-unit bahasa yang bermakna.Karena masih kurangnya media online untuk mempelajari grammar, hal ini merupakan kesempatanbagi penulis membuat website e-learning untuk pembelajaran English grammar yang bisadikerjakan dimanapun dengan memanfaatkan media elektronik yang terhubung dengan koneksiinternet. Penulis menggunakan pengembangan system dengan motode perangkat lunak waterfallyang terdiri dari: Analisis kebutuhan perangkat lunak, desain, pembuatan kode program, pengujian,pendukung dan pemeliharaan serta menggunakan teknik observasi dan studi pustaka dalampengumpulan data yang dibutuhkan. Website e-learning ini dapat menampilkan materi pelajaranserta memberikan latihan soal. Hasil penelitian ini akan lebih memudahkan pengajar, pelajar ataupara user dalam mempelajari grammar bahasa Inggris karena e-learning ini sangat mudah dalampenggunaannya dan juga akan mengefektifkan waktu pengguna. download pdf
