Abstract

This study aims to determine the significant effect of the Probing-Prompting learning model on students' critical thinking skills at SMPN 40 Pekanbaru. This study is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students, including students having difficulty in understanding a text or information obtained and students having difficulty drawing logical conclusions based on the information obtained. This type of research is a quantitative study with a Quasi Experiment approach with a Nonequivalent Control Design. The population in this study is class VII, totaling 205 students, while the sample in this study consists of 2 classes, namely class VII E as the experimental class and class VII C as the control class, totaling 80 students. The sample uses a Purposive Sampling technique. Data collection techniques use observation, tests and documentation. Data analysis techniques are normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests (Independent Sample t-Test) and influence tests (Effect-Size). Data analysis to test the hypothesis was carried out using the IBM SPSS Statistics Version 22 application. Based on the hypothesis test using the Independent Sample t-Test, the calculated t and t table were 6.559 > 1.668 with a significance level of 0.05 or 5% which stated that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. The magnitude of the influence of the Probing-Prompting learning model on Social Sciences subjects can be seen from the results of the Effect Size test of 3.46.

Abstract

Problems in the school environment are one of the challenges in education that can affect the quality of the learning process and the achievement of educational goals. These problems are not only related to academic aspects, but also include learning motivation, student discipline, behavior, and social interaction in the school environment. Low learning motivation and less optimal learning processes are some of the problems that are still often found in educational activities. This study aims to examine the contributions of various parties in helping to solve problems that occur in schools. The method used is library research by collecting and analyzing various sources such as educational books, scientific journals, and literature related to learning, character education, and classroom management. The results of the study show that problems in schools are influenced by internal and external factors, such as family, school, community environment, and technological developments. Teachers act as guides and motivators, students as active subjects in learning, parents as supporters of education at home, and schools and communities as supporters in creating a conducive learning environment. Therefore, cooperation among all elements of education is very necessary to improve the quality of education as a whole.
