Abstract

A burn wound is tissue damage after contacting a heat source. Globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) is effective for healing burn wounds. This research analyzes the formula of spray gel pursuant to pharmaceutical requirements and the spray gel’s ability to heal burn wounds. The spray gel preparation was made from 12.5%, 15%, and 20% concentrations of globe amaranth extract. Based on the stability test, the spray gel of globe amaranth preparation is stable in storage The test of the effectiveness of globe amaranth-based gel spray for healing burn wounds was conducted on test animals divided into five groups, i.e., control positive (bioplasenton®), control negative (gel-base), FI (spray gel preparation at a 12.5% concentration of globe amaranth extract), FII (spray gel preparation at a 15% concentration of globe amaranth extract), and FIII (spray gel preparation at a 20% concentration of globe amaranth extract) and induced using an iron plate of diameter 1.5 cm. The results indicated a burn wound healing percentage of 51.33% (P%) on test animals on day 14. On FII, the P% was 62%, and FIII, the P% was 63.33% at p < 0.05. The percentage of burn wound healing on FII and FIII was the same as that on control positive at p > 0.05. To conclude, the spray gel preparation from globe amaranth extracts at 15% and 20% concentrations was effective for healing burn wounds.

Abstract

Abstract

Currently, there are many alcohol-based hand sanitizers on the market. Alcohol-based products when used in the long term can cause irritation, so it is necessary to develop Handsanitizer preparations that use active substances other than alcohol. Onion Dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr.) is a typical Kalimantan plant that has antibacterial properties. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of variations in the concentration of gelling agent in the hand sanitizer gel preparation of Dayak onion extract on the physical properties and antibacterial effects of S. aureus and E. coli bacteria. Gel Handsanitizer preparations were made using the gelling agent carbopol with 3 variations in concentration, namely FI (carbopol 0.3%), FII (carbopol 0.4%), and FIII (carbopol 0.5%). The finished preparation will be tested for physical properties such as organoleptic, pH, viscosity and homogeneity. To see the antibacterial effect of the hand sanitizer, Dayak onion extract was tested on S. aureus and E. Coli bacteria. The hand sanitizer preparation of Dayak onion extract produced has a maroon color, has a distinctive odor, and is homogeneous. The results of the physical properties test showed that the viscosity and pH would increase with increasing gelling agent concentration, while the dispersion decreased with p < 0.05. The results of the test on S. aureus bacteria for FI, FII, FIII, and positive control showed a weak category, while the E. Coli bacteria showed a moderate category for FI, and a strong category for FII, FIII, and positive control with p value > 0, 05. The negative control did not form an inhibition zone. Variations in the concentration of geling agent (carbopol) had an effect on the physical properties of the hand sanitizer gel preparation of Dayak onion extract, but did not affect its effectiveness against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria.

Abstract

Regarding the distribution of medicines to pharmaceutical facilities, there are several problems that are often found in the community, namely, there are still many places such as grocery stores that do not have permits to sell medicines, in fact quite a few of these stalls sell hard medicines without service and information about good treatment. This research aims to obtain an overview of irregularities in the distribution of restricted over-the-counter medicines including precursors and Obat-Obat Tertentu (OOT) and hard medicines in grocery stores in the amal beach area. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The sample for this research was all grocery stores in the X sub-district area that were willing to be respondents, namely 28 stores. The research results showed that all respondents sold limited over-the-counter drugs including precursors and OOTs as well as hard drugs. The most limited over-the-counter drug sold is Paramex, the most common precursor and oot drug is Mixagrip flu, and the most hard drug is mefenamic acid with various types of brand names. Based on the results of interviews with shop owners, it is known that most drugs are obtained by purchasing directly from pharmacies, sales and drug stores. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that there are irregularities in drug distribution in the X Village area, Tarakan City, because there are still grocery stores selling limited over-the-counter drugs, OOT, precursors and hard drugs.
