Abstract

Abstract

A burn wound is tissue damage after contacting a heat source. Globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) is effective for healing burn wounds. This research analyzes the formula of spray gel pursuant to pharmaceutical requirements and the spray gel’s ability to heal burn wounds. The spray gel preparation was made from 12.5%, 15%, and 20% concentrations of globe amaranth extract. Based on the stability test, the spray gel of globe amaranth preparation is stable in storage The test of the effectiveness of globe amaranth-based gel spray for healing burn wounds was conducted on test animals divided into five groups, i.e., control positive (bioplasenton®), control negative (gel-base), FI (spray gel preparation at a 12.5% concentration of globe amaranth extract), FII (spray gel preparation at a 15% concentration of globe amaranth extract), and FIII (spray gel preparation at a 20% concentration of globe amaranth extract) and induced using an iron plate of diameter 1.5 cm. The results indicated a burn wound healing percentage of 51.33% (P%) on test animals on day 14. On FII, the P% was 62%, and FIII, the P% was 63.33% at p < 0.05. The percentage of burn wound healing on FII and FIII was the same as that on control positive at p > 0.05. To conclude, the spray gel preparation from globe amaranth extracts at 15% and 20% concentrations was effective for healing burn wounds.

Abstract

Leaves of gulma siam (Choromolaena odorata L.) contain tannins, phenols, flavonoids, saponins, and steroids which are effective for killing acne-causing bacteria. Applied as anti-acne, the extract of gulma siam is formulated as a preparation of a peel-off gel mask. This research produces formulas of peel-off masks made from the extract of gulma siam leaves and perpetrates an antibacterial test on the peel-off masks against propionibacterium acnes. Four formulas of peel-off masks were made using different concentrations of the extract of gulma siam leaves. The concentrations were 3.25% (FI), 7.5% (FII), 15% (FIII), and 20% (FIV). The preparations of the peel-off masks were physically evaluated for organoleptic, spreadability, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and dry time. A well diffusion method was implemented to test antibacterial potencies against propionibacterium acnes. The potency measurement was based on the resistance around wells in the form of a clear zone. Predicated on the evaluation results of the physical properties of gulma siam leave extracts during storage, organoleptically, the extracts were homogenous, had a pH of 4.5-6.5, and had a dry time of 15-21 minutes. Concerning spreadability, FIII and FIV lived up to the criteria. Meanwhile, for viscosity, all formulas of peel-off masks were unstable during storage. FI and FII presented weak and medium antibacterial activities, respectively. Moreover, FII and FIV showed strong ones. The ANOVA analysis showcased differences in antibacterial activities among the four formulas (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the extract of gulma siam leaves in the form of a peel-off mask preparation was a potential actibacterial ingredient for dealing with propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Stroke is the most common neurological disorder where acute attacks can cause death in a short time or lifelong disability. Stroke patients have a risk of relapse or recurrent stroke. This study aims to determine the relationship between family knowledge and the prevention of recurrent stroke in the polyclinic of Santo Antonio Baturaja Hospital. This research is a type of quantitative research with a cross sectional design with accidental sampling technique, the population is 93 respondents on average every month with a sample using the Slovin formula totalling 75 respondents. In this study, the sample was a family who took care of their family members who suffered a stroke who visited the Santo Antonio Baturaja Hospital Polyclinic. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the level of family knowledge in the prevention of recurrent stroke has poor knowledge (53.3%). This is in line with the prevention of recurrent stroke attacks by the family in line with poor prevention (50.7%). The results of statistical analysis using the Spearman test showed a significant relationship between family knowledge and the prevention of recurrent stroke at the Santo Antonio Hospital polyclinic (pvalue=0.000) and r = 0.393. This study suggests optimising the role of the family in preventing recurrent stroke and providing extensive information on matters relating to advanced stroke disease and advanced stroke patient care at home
