Abstract

The objective of research was to find out the strategy taken by truck driver family to maintain its family intactness and to find out the factors that can result in family intactness among truck drivers. This research employed Robert D. Putnam and Michael Woolcock’s Social Capital. This qualitative research with phenomenological approach was conducted in Surakarta. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling one. The informant of research consisted of 4 families including 4 truck drivers, 4 drivers’ wives, 3 drivers’ children, and 1 member of surrounding society. Data was collected through observation, interview, and documentation. To validate the data, source triangulation was used.  Technique of analyzing data used was an interactive model of analysis from Miles and Huberman. The result of research showed that the strategy of maintaining the intactness of truck driver’s family was taken by all family members including fathers, mothers, and children. The strategy of maintaining family intactness using Putnam’s social capital was understandable. Trust could be seen from openness, honesty, and trust concerning family’s income or expense and many problems. Network could be seen from low education, work system with company, inherited truck driving skill, no talent and competency in other type of job. Norm could be seen from appreciating each other’s right and obligation and livelihood for family members. Meanwhile, the strategy of maintaining family intactness using Woolcock’s social capital was understandable including bonding as indicated with honesty, openness, trust, and smooth communication, intensity of meeting time between truck drivers and families, and individual families’ way of solving problems. Bridging could be seen from individual families with rule/norm developed, obeyed, and implemented to organize their families. Linking could be seen from the work system with distributor company, between truck drivers with their own truck and those working with distributor company using either provision or wholesale system.

Abstract

Kethoprak is a folk art that tells about life stories that are stories of legends that existed in society with the background of Javanese kingdom life. Ketoprak was born as a habit of society playing musical instruments, singing, and dancing. The purpose of this research is to describe or explain about, the existence of the Ketoprak Balekambang as one form of preservation of Javanese culture in Surakarta, factors that encourage and inhibit the player Ketoprak Balekambang survive in the art Ketoprak And the strategy of maintaining the art of Balekambang Ketoprak in the era of modernization as it is today.  Data collection methods are done by observing, interviews and documentation. Data validity is done with the triangulation technique, i.e. data triangulation, source triangulation, methodological triangulation, research triangulation, and triangulation theory.The results showed that to maintain the existence of Ketoprak in order not to be lost, carried out various efforts: the participation of the young generation who participated in the play of Ketoprak, the Ketoprak Balekambang as a livelihood despite the inappropriate payment and is preserving Javanese culture. The strategy to maintain the art of Ketoprak Balekambang in the modernization era, is to promote through advertising in the mass media that can be reached by the wider community. The driving factor of the existence of Ketoprak because of the taste of culture and efforts to keep exist by involving young people as a form of regeneration. Conclusion of the research results that the art of Ketoprak until now still in the midst of modernization era especially in Surakarta.

Abstract

Secara umum, sunat perempuan merupakan pemotongan atau penggoresan seluruh atau sebagian alat genital perempuan khususnya bagian klitoris Desa Ngemplak merupakan desa yang masih terdapat praktik sunat perempuan masih dilakukan hingga sekarang, dari hasil pra penelitian yang telah dilakukan diketahui 85% remaja di Desa Ngemplak pernah melakukan sunat perempuan rata-rata saat umur mereka kurang dari 10 tahun. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan mengenai eksistensi dan kontrol tubuh pada sunat perempuan di Desa Ngemplak Karangpandan.Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori kekuasaan Michel Foucault. Konsep kekuasaan ini juga ada pada praktik sunat perempuan, interaksi masyarakat yang menyebabkan lahirnya sunat perempuan. Dalam praktik sunat perempuan, perempuan menjadi tidak berdaya sebab perempuan tidak memiliki kuasa akan tubuhnya sendiri terutama pada fungsi reproduksi tubuhnya.Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: 1) Eksistensi sunat perempuan di Desa Ngemplak ada dari masa dahulu hingga sekarang. Dalam pelaksanaannya sunat perempuan pada masa lalu dilakukan pada umur di bawah 7 tahun sedangkan masa sekarang sunat perempuan masih dilakukan bahkan oleh tenaga medis dan dilakukan pada umur yang lebih belia seperti di bawah 6 bulan. 2) Sunat perempuan merupakan salah satu alat kontrol bagi tubuh perempuan dikarenakan anjuran mengenai sunat kebanyakan dilakukan oleh orangtua perempuan. Perempuan tidak diberi pilihan iya atau tidak nya dalam melakukan sunat karena dianggap pada umur di bawah 7 tahun, anak belum mengerti mengenai manfaat dan apa itu sunat perempuan.
