Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the problem-based learning method in PAI learning on improving learning outcomes and learning motivation of students of SMK Ma'arif Walingoso Kajoran. This research uses an experimental method with a quasi experimental design approach. This research was conducted at SMK Ma'arif Walisongo Kajoran. The instruments used in this study were learning outcome scales and learning motivation. Data analysis techniques using Wilcoxon test and Mann Whitney test. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test, it shows that problem-based learning (PBL) method has an effect on improving student learning outcomes in the experimental group and in the control group with lecture techniques there is no difference. While the results of the Wilcoxon test of learning motivation, there is a difference in learning motivation in the problem-based learning method and there is no difference in the lecture technique. Problem-based learning (PBL) method in PAI learning is effective in improving learning outcomes and learning motivation in students of SMK Ma'arif Walisongo Kajoran.

Abstract

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has increasingly influenced educational practices, including Islamic Religious Education (IRE), by enabling automated content creation, AI-based assessment, and adaptive learning. However, its use also raises ethical concerns related to transparency, fairness, copyright, religious misinformation, data bias, and student privacy. This article critically examines the concepts, implementation, ethical dimensions, and potential risks of generative AI in education, with particular attention to its relevance within IRE. Employing a systematic literature review of indexed academic publications, international policy reports, and ethical frameworks for AI in education, the study finds that generative AI can serve as an effective supportive technology for IRE when used responsibly and grounded in core Islamic values, including trustworthiness (amanah), justice (‘adl), honesty (ṣidq), and public interest (maṣlaḥah). The findings reaffirm the central role of IRE teachers as moral guides, interpreters of Islamic teachings, and pedagogical decision-makers, while positioning generative AI as an assistive tool that enhances learning rather than replacing the educator’s moral and spiritual authority. This study contributes both theoretically and practically to the development of ethical, inclusive, and context-sensitive policies and practices for the use of generative AI in Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

The ontology of pesantren education is to build the lives of the student with Islamic values because the contents of pesantren education are Islamic doctrine. The epistemology of pesantren education is a method/approach to develop education in pesantren, so that in its axiological aspect can creating individuals who are noble, removes the paradigm of the dichotomy of science, changes indoctrination into participatory, builds a theoretical approach towards an applicative approach, combining a harmonious relationship between reason and revelation, useful knowledge, scientific charity, piety, and noble. The education of pesantren in the modern era needs to prepare learning media to support the achievement of educational goals. In the perspective of Islam, the universe is a medium of learning, included in this category is the media of technology. It’s just that the role of the teacher needs to be prioritized so there is no dehumanization in education.

Abstract

Historical learning in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), particularly Abbasid history, remains dominated by teacher-centered instruction and memorization, limiting students’ engagement and conceptual understanding. Despite the proven benefits of digital gamification, evidence in IRE remains limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a digital gamification medium for Abbasid history and assess its effectiveness in enhancing seventh-grade students’ conceptual understanding. The study employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model. The developed media was validated by media and subject-matter experts, while its instructional effectiveness was assessed through a one-group pretest–posttest design using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and normalized gain (N-Gain) analysis. Expert validation indicated that the developed medium achieved acceptable feasibility, with scores of 72.7% from media experts and 76.3% from subject-matter experts. Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement between pretest and posttest scores (Asymp. Sig. = 0.000), while the average N-Gain score of 0.6693 indicated a high increase in students’ conceptual understanding. The findings suggest that instructional effectiveness resulted primarily from the constructive alignment between historical content, pedagogical design, and gamification mechanics rather than technological novelty alone. The study highlights the potential of pedagogically aligned digital gamification to enhance historical learning within IRE and provides practical guidance for integrating interactive learning environments into humanities- and religion-based education. This research extends the gamification literature into the underexplored domain of Abbasid history in IRE and demonstrates that meaningful cognitive improvement can be achieved through well-designed instructional integration without requiring sophisticated technological infrastructure.
