Abstract

Indonesia declared COVID 19 as an outbreak since March 2020, where the President of Indonesia announced the fist two cases who were cured already. Since then a lot of publication, as well as information, spread out through social media. The hoax buster of the government had already put 134 hoaxes in the website only in one month 1. Thus, one can imagine how difficult for Indonesian people to understand the situation of the outbreak and to properly respond to it. Cases increased exponentially and it was estimated that Indonesia would reach 20,000 cases at the end of March 2020 2. The fact is up till the 6th of April 2020, Indonesia reported 2,491 cases 3.What happens to the estimation? Was it wrong or a lot of underreported cases occur in the community? Is it because of the intervention that the government launched effectively?

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under five years, with a periodic prevalence of 25.9% in West Papua (2013). This study aims to explain the factors associated with ARIs in under-5 children in Sorong District, West Papua. This cross-sectional study was conducted in two districts, where trained medical students interviewed 135 mothers/caregivers by using a structured questionnaire and interviewed cadres and health workers for qualitative observation. About 85.5% of respondents stated that their children had ARIs in the previous two weeks (n=135), much higher than the data from Sorong District Health Office, which only reached 24.63%. Dominant risk factors were large household size, smoking at home, and improper handwashing habits. Only half of the respondents went to a physician in a primary care facility. Nearly half of the respondents had difficulty in accessing the facility. The majority of caregivers used over-the-counter or traditional medicine. Around 70% of respondents in Makbon Subdistrict did nothing to prevent the transmission of ARIs among children. ARIs remains a massive problem in the Sorong district. We need to educate the mothers/caregivers about the rational use of medicine and the prevention of ARIs, and also advocate for better access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare facilities.

Abstract

Introduction: The covid 19 pandemics in Indonesia has started in March 2020 but there is no sign of ending up till this publication. Aim of study: This is a narrative review to explain the importance of using HEPA filter as environmental control. Method: The study was a narrative review using recently published journals in 2020 about Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV2) transmission. Results and Discussion: The study in Wuhan found viral particles in the circulating air of the Covid 19 referral hospitals, especially where there was no sufficient air exchange. A similar finding was reported in a hospital in Nebraska. Particles of 2.5 microns in size as air pollutants increased the risk of fatality because the size made it possible to reach the alveoli, where viruses could attach with. The study in North Italy, Germany, and the United States found the synergy between the level of pollution to increase mortality of Covid 19 in that particular area. A HEPA filter is an old technology for the isolation room in a hospital, which has to be a standard in many rooms in a hospital that can filter the virus. Conclusion: Most of the findings suggested airborne transmission of SARS CoV2 and it is important to use HEPA filter in a closed office.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Traffic accidents remain a major public health concern globally, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia, which ranks among the highest in road traffic-related mortality. Indonesia, as one of the fourth most populous countries in the world, is at greater risk for increased mortality from traffic accidents. Lower limb fractures are frequently associated with considerable morbidity and lengthy hospital stays. Purpose: This study identifies the perceptions and experiences of continuity of care (COC) nurses in lower limb fracture patients. Methods: This research utilizes a descriptive qualitative model with a phenomenology approach. Researchers recruited respondents after obtaining ethical clearance and an approval letter from West Sulawesi Provincial Hospital. In this study, 5 participants were determined according to the inclusion criteria set by the researcher. The data collection process was carried out by conducting a Focus group Discussion (FGD) for 40–60 minutes. During the FGD, the researchers used FGD notes and field notes. The analysis in this study used content analysis. Results: This study explored nurses' perceptions and experiences of continuity of care (COC) fracture patients in the lower extremity. This study identified four themes, namely, continuity of care (COC) in fracture patients, perceived physical discomfort, support needs in ambulating, and support for improving nurse competency. Conclusion: The implementation of COC can be a solution to the physical discomfort experienced by patients. Nurse support, family support, interprofessional support, and hospital support are needed so that COC can be implemented properly to improve musculoskeletal recovery and sustainable independence in lower limb fracture patients. The hope of the participants, in addition to motivation and the availability of tools for ambulation exercises, should be provided in the surgical room, especially in the treatment room for patients with musculoskeletal system disorders.
