Abstract

Statistical survey data of each province in Java indicates that the number of educated unemployed individuals holding a high school or university diploma is higher than that of lower-educated unemployed individuals. The increase in the number of educated unemployed individuals suggests that the government has not been successful in increasing job opportunities and establishing an effective education system to compete in the workforce. A significant increase happened in 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic, leading to numerous dismissals. This research aims to discover the factors influencing educated unemployment in Java using Fixed Effect Model (FEM) panel data analysis, which comprises cross-sectional data from six provinces in Java and time series data spanning from 2016 to 2022. The results of the research show that education level variable (average years of schooling) has a negative and insignificant influence on educated unemployment, provincial minimum wage has a negative and significant influence on educated unemployment, GRDP has a positive and insignificant influence on educated unemployment, foreign direct investment has a positive and significant effect on educated unemployment, local direct investment has a positive and significant influence on educated unemployment, and Covid-19 pandemic has a positive and significant influence on educated unemployment in Java from 2016 to 2022.

Abstract

The internet has become an integral part of life in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Although this province boasts the highest internet penetration rate in the country, its economic growth has not kept pace, and income inequality has increased. This study aims to evaluate the impact of education, health, and internet usage on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), as well as the effects of GRDP and internet usage on income inequality (Gini Ratio) in Yogyakarta. Using secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and the National Economics Social Survey (SUSENAS) from 2015-2023, the analysis was conducted using panel regression methods. The Two Stage Least Squares (2SLS) method was employed to understand the influence of the internet on GRDP and income inequality, providing guidance for the government in formulating policies to improve public welfare. The research results show that the Internet, education and health have a significant effect on GRDP even though the education variable has no significant effect. The results of this research also show that GRDP has a significant negative effect on income inequality. However, the internet variable shows positive and significant results on income inequality.

Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the factors that influence poverty levels in Indonesia, both directly and indirectly, by analyzing the involvement of labor force participation levels. The study uses BPS data and the APBN Data Portal to evaluate wages, education, and government spending in the education and health sectors as influencing variables. Using time series data, this research form by path analysis aims to identify direct or indirect relationships between variables. The data is first analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis as part of the research methodology. This research using path analysis and the Sobel test, researchers found that education levels only up to junior secondary school have an impact on changes in labor force participation rates but do not have an impact on reducing poverty. In contrast, other variables, such as wages and government spending in the education and health sectors, do not indirectly affect poverty through the labor force participation rate.
