Abstract

Learning during the Covid-19 pandemic was designed by teachers who were often considered abnormal because it was different from learning activities during normal times. Both teachers and students experience obstacles in carrying out learning, both offline and online. For this reason, this study aims to describe how the learning phenomenon during the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangkalan Madura, and how the teacher's creativity is in designing learning. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, interviews, and observation of learning design documents carried out during the pandemic. This study used a qualitative descriptive analysis of Miles and Huberman. The results of this study indicate that there are two different phenomena of changes in the form of learning implementation and creative learning designs carried out by two teachers from different schools in Bangkalan Madura. Changes in form occur referring to the accessibility aspect of the implementation of learning by paying attention to the obstacles faced by both teachers and students. This change in form provides teachers with literacy challenges, both digital literacy, and creativity. This research proves that teachers' creativity in realizing 21st-century learning in this pandemic has become increasingly sharp. Two phenomena of changing the form of learning implementation and the creativity of learning designs carried out by teachers during this pandemic can be examples or references for other teachers in carrying out blended learning or online learning during the pandemic.

Abstract

Teaching reading in ESP Class is a challenging work not only for the English teacher but also for the students of Islamic Education Program or PAI of University of Muhammadiyah Jember. Teacher should be selective and creative in implementing teaching strategy in order to encourage students to comprehend reading text and communicate their understanding in the target language. The implementation of Read-Examine-Decide-Write (REDW) Strategy was done in ESP class of PAI. Read-Examine-Decide-Write Strategy was found as a good solution to teach them reading comprehension. By grouping the students in pair, they did their learning effectively through the steps of REDW. 75.8% or 22 of 29 students got score ≥ 75. They were active in comprehending the text through steps of REDW. The research result showed that Read-Examine-Decide-Write Strategy was able to improve PAI students’ reading comprehension in the first semester of 2015-2016 Academic Year.Keywords: reading comprehension, read-examine-decide-write strategy

Abstract

To make students’ ideas become real, it needs act that can make them bring themselves to explore what is in their mind. The action done by students in the classroom would encourage them to be able to be creative in speaking class. The creativity should be facilitated by the teacher by providing more rooms for the students to involve much in the classroom activities. It is more meaningful for the teacher to design the classroom activities by involving students’ participation. The design should facilitate both teacher and students to practice the teaching and learning activities creatively, so the class would be more interesting and more authentic. The students’ involvement can also empower the student-teacher relationship and bridge them to minimize gap. In the process of having speaking classroom activities, the teacher can learn more on how to listen to students’ ideas and how to appreciate them respectfully to their creativity. The teachers can build the students’ creativity and guide them how to implement it well for students’ learning experience. In another side, the students are invited to explore their smart ideas in developing learning experience which is leading them to do creative and meaningful learning activities. They come to class not only as the passive participants of the learning activities but also as the active participants in proposing and acting their ideas in speaking class. It is really challenging involvement for the students. It brings them to have bigger responsibility in doing learning process. So, the students’ activity involvement are experienced them to enrich their creativity and to enhance their speaking ability.   Keywords: classroom activity design, learning experience, meaningful learning, challenging involvement, creativity enrichment.

Abstract

Learning English as an international language may have generated an issue with vocabulary problems recognizing aspects during its process which the learning process lives of students cannot be overstated. The objective of this research is to refer to the research problem to find out how electronic guessing games increase vocabulary mastery. The hypothesis of this research is described as follows: applying electronic guessing games at MTs Nurul Hasan Bondowoso in the 2022/2023 academic years and focusing on increasing students' English language, especially vocabulary mastery. The design of this research is classroom action research. the research is VII A class consisting of 15 students. The data are collected using the test method by the Quizizz platform and the instrument used is test items with a covering of classification vocabulary. Electronic guessing games were able to increase the student’s vocabulary mastery according to the criteria of success at MTs Nurul Hasan Bondowoso in the 2022/2023 academic years by student’s ability to use technology, with technical fluency in using technology, it was easier for students to connected the picture to clues to find out the right answer.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the One Stay Two Stray (OSTS) collaborative learning strategy on reading comprehension among junior high school students in Indonesia. Recognizing the challenges faced by students with limited English proficiency, the research employs an experimental design involving two classes from SMPN 1 Tamanan. The experimental group received reading appreciation skills training through the OSTS method, while the control group engaged in traditional individual learning. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, with results analyzed using a t-test to determine statistical significance. Findings indicate that the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in reading comprehension, with a post-test mean score of 97.81 compared to 92.85 for the control group. The t-test results (t-value = 2.16) exceeded the critical value (2.01), confirming the effectiveness of the OSTS method in enhancing students' reading skills. This study underscores the importance of collaborative learning strategies in fostering better comprehension abilities in language education

Abstract

The most crucial skill that must be mastered by everyone to increase their knowledge is reading. One way to obtain media information is by reading since many books are written in English. The difference between this research and previous research is the previous research concentrated on writing. Therefore, it is important to do research entitled “Analyzing the impact of collaborative strategy on students’ reading comprehension while this research implemented to reading comprehension for Junior High School students with the help of learning as a support material delivery. in narrative text”. The problem of this research is whether is there any significant effect of the use of collaborative strategy reading on students’ reading comprehension SMP Negeri 2 Balung Jember grade (9) academic year 2023/2024”. The research adopts a quasi-experimental approach. The research subject is ninth grade consisting of 31 students. The data are collected using test method, and the instrument used is reading test. In order to analyse the data student’s reading score percentage formula is used. Based on the post-test results, the experimental group (IX H) achieved an average score of 75.81. The independent T-test results indicate a significant difference with a value of 0.000. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that collaborative strategy method is able to improve the student’s reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 2 Balung Jember grade (9) academic year 2023/2024”.
