Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find out the effectiveness of Podcast for improving listening skill and building comprehension for students on Narrative text. This research uses quasy experimental design. They were 18 tenth grade students of SMK Darul Ulum Kuningan as the research subject . they were devided into two groups ; Experimental and Control Group . Pre-test and post-test was used as the instruments in order to take data collection. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed and interpreted through quantitative procedure by SPSS 23.0 version. The result showed in the post-test of experiment group was higher than the mean score of the pre-test, which the mean of post-test was 84.00, and the pre-test was 58.75.Based on the statistical analysis using T-test, the result indicates that the significant value (sig-2 tailed) was 0,000 and it was lower than 0.05 0.000 < 0.05) and t-test value was 7.206 > t-table 2.145. It represented that there was a significant improvement of students` listening skill on Narrative text before and after being taught by using Podcast. the researcher takes the conclusion that Podcast is effective used in teaching learning listening at the tenth grade students of SMK Darul Ulum Kuningan.

Abstract

This study aims to know how freshmen use the copular verbs and what types of errors occur when they apply them in simple sentences. The writer assumed that paying attention to the learning of copula as the basic English is important because the writer often find that some students still do mistakes in writing simple sentences. This case is also interfered by the background of freshmen. The freshmen learn English just as a foreign language, so there will be many factor will affect this process of learning such as the different system used in these two languages, English and Indonesian as freshmen’s mother tongue. The method of this study use qualitative. The data presented is not by calculation like in the quantitative. The procedure of this research is through asking students to write several simple sentences with suitable pattern. They were asked to use scratch words that they know. Then the researcher collected the data. The next is identifying all those sentences. The writer focuses on how these freshmen use the copular verbs in their sentences. In analyzing the data, the writer specifies the errors analysis into four, those are: 1) collections of sample errors,2) the identification of sample errors, 3)the description of errors, and 4)the explanation of errors (Corder in Eliis, 1996: 48). The result show that there are many errors occur in writing simple sentences. The most frequenly occur is omission. So it can be concluded in teaching English it need to pay attention to grammatical aspect in writing .

Abstract

The aim of this study is to enhance the English vocabulary of young learners through the Total Physical Response method in KB Al-Hikmah. The research follows a collaborative classroom action research design. The subjects of the study are 13 children aged 5–6 who are part of Class B. The data collection methods include interviews, observations, and tests. The data analysis used in this research is a qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The result of the study showed that there was improvement in young learners’ vocabulary mastery. It can be proven from the results of the observation sheets that there was a significant improvement in the response of young learners from cycle 1 to cycle 2. In cycle 1, the majority of students actively participated (61.5%), while a smaller proportion were less active (7.7%), and a significant majority were very active (30.5%). However, in cycle 2, there was a notable increase in the number of engaged students (23.07%) and a substantial majority of very active students (76.93%). The response of young learners during the teaching and learning process demonstrates their active participation in the classroom. Furthermore, there was an improvement in the mean writing scores of the young learners. In the preliminary study, only 46.15% of the class met the success indicator, while in the first cycle, the percentage increased to 67.7%, and in the second cycle, it reached an impressive 85.1% success indicator. The results obtained, which are valid and acceptable, show that the implementation of the Total Physical Response method through play has successfully improved the English vocabulary of young learners in Class B of KB Al-Hikmah.

Abstract

Motivasi merupakan aspek yang dipertimbangkan dalam keberhasilan belajar. Siswa sekolah dasar dengan  karakteristik yang dimilikinya seperti menyenangi belajar dengan suasana rileks dan menyenangkan membutuhkan cara tersendiri dalam pengajaran. Media belajar merupakan aspek pendukung guna mengadopsi kebutuhan siswa tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana motivasi siswa dalam belajar dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran berupa pohon cita-cita. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif terhadap 40 populasi dan 36 sampel yang dipilih dengan  menggunakan teknik purposive sampling serta dianalis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif terhadap data yang diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, maka ditemukan bahwa motivasi siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan media pohon cita-cita adalah baik dan 3 profesi yang diminati adalah guru, dokter dan YouTuber.

Abstract

Realia media is a real object that  used in teaching learning to help the teaching process to be more effective. this media involves almost all five senses from seeing, touching, hearing, observing directly and providing real experience to students. real media here is classified into three kind there are: real objects, artificial objects, and modified artificial objects (similar to real objects). The use of this media can help the process of introducing new vocabulary to be easily remembered and can explore more vocabulary even though only from one object. The aim of this study is to find out how is the significant correlation between the use of Realia media and student vocabulary mastery at seventh grade SMPIT Umuul Qurro Tasikmalaya. This research is quantitative research with a correlational quantitative research design. The research sample was 35 students from 72 students who became the population. In taking sample the researcher used the Simple Random Sampling technique. Data collection techniques by distributing questionnaires related to the use of Realia media and vocabulary tests to find out how far the mastery of student vocabulary. The data analysis technique used is descriptive and inferential using the product moment correlation formula. Based on the results of data processing and analysis using the spss 25 program, the results of the correlation between the use of Realia media and student vocabulary mastery  0.677. this result is at the "strong" level because the value of 0.677 is in the Coefficient Interval 0.60-0.799 with a significance value of 0.000 less than 0.05 or 5%.  it is concluded that H0  is rejected, and Ha is accepted. Means, there is a significant correlation between the use of Realia media and student vocabulary mastery at seventh grade SMPIT Umuul Qurro Tasikmalaya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang mood system yang terdapat pada lirik lagu berbahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan sample dari 4 teks lirik yang berbeda seperti lirik lagu riang, lagu muslim riang dan lagu sedih. Langkah-langkah dalam penelitian ini sesuai dengan jenis penelitian kualitatif dimana prosedur yang dilakukan diawali dari mencari data, mengklasifikasikan, menganalisis dan membuat interpretasi hasil serta menyimpulkan. Hasil analisa menunjukan system mood yang muncul dari tiga teks lagu ini didominasi oleh mood deklaratif. Dari hasil yag didapatkan menunjukkan system mood dalam ketiga teks tersebut didominasi oleh mood deklaratif, dengan pola S+F dengan jumlah kemunculan sebanyak 74 kali.Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahasa dalam teks tersebut bersifat informatif. Berbeda dengan mood imperative dan interogative yang cenderung lebih sedikit. Mood imperative dalam lirik lagu yang dianalisis menunjukkan adanya sifat ajakan pada atau pendengar. Sedangkan mood interrogative adalah yang paling sdikit kemunculan dalam lirik ini. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan makna interpersonal dari ketiga lirik ini menunjukkan lirik lagu lebih bersifat informatif daripada persuasif.

Abstract

English pronunciation is one of essential aspect to learn English as a second language. It becomes the reason why this research conducted. The existence of ELSA application as a media is considered to be something new that able to make learners more interested to learn Engish. The use of this media aims to take advantage of technological advances in an effort to make it easier for students to improve their pronunciation skills which will then be very useful for students when facing the world of international work. The researcher uses experimental research in which Elsa Speak is the independent variable and pronunciation is the dependent variable. By using random sampling technique the researcher took sample of 11 students from a total population 37 students of class XI SMK Taruna Bhakti Kadugede and data collection techniques is observation, test, and documentation. The result showed that the use of Elsa Speak can improve students’ learning motivation by 25.45%, and the results statistical analysis of the Pre-Test and Post-Test show that using Elsa Speak can improve students' pronunciation ability by 17 %. The conclusion of this research is that Elsa Speak is able to improve the pronunciation ability of the XI grade students of SMK Taruna Bhakti Kadugede.

Abstract

This research was carried out to help comprehend figurative language and its various forms. Another goal is to determine what kind of figurative language is contained in Arctic Monkeys' song I Wanna Be Yours, as well as the contextual meaning. This research is a descriptive qualitative approach. That is, this study does not calculate data and instead provides an overview of Arctic Monkeys' figurative language in I Wanna Be Yours. This is accomplished by bolding and underlining the song's lyrics, classifying figurative language, and then providing the meaning. The results of this research include the identification of figurative language such as metaphors and similes, as well as the contextual meaning of the lyrics.

Abstract

The research on this thesis is motivated by the difficulty of students in reading comprehension of English text. There are still many students who have difficulty in understanding the contents of an English text that makes students not enthusiastic about learning so that student motivation is also influential, by using the Quizizz application researcher hope that students will increase in reading comprehension. The purpose of this study was to collect direct evidence about to determine the use of Quizizz application can improve students ' reading comprehension, Saturated sampling technique was used by the researcher. The study used a sample of 52 students: 25 students in the experimental class and 27 students in the control class. The method used in this study is a quantitative method and the design used in this study is a quasi-experimental study. The Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 29 and obtained using tests, observations, and documentation. The researcher used a pretest and posttest consisting of 20 multiple choice questions in the data collection, and the researcher also makes a checklist observation sheet .1) in analyzing the data, the researcher used a t-test results from the calculation showed that the significance level of 5% is (7,545 > 2,086). This means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The results of the test criteria showed that students ' vocabulary mastery using and without the Quizizz application was significantly different. This is indicated by a higher average score for the experimental class compared to the control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that Quizizz application help students Class X TKJ SMK AUTOMATSUDA in English reading comprehension.
