Abstract

After His Resurrection and Ascension, the disciples tried to understand who Jesus really was. Thus, the formulations of Jesus as God, Son of God, Christ and so forth, came into their consciousness. These such formulations were growing in accordance with the particular social context in which the Christian faith was proclaimed. An attempt to find a formula of Jesus Christ in various contexts is what is known as the contextual christology. The emergence of liberation theology in the second half of the 20th century gave birth to the realization that theology always has a context, has a background and also deals with particular concerns. Therefore, christology as one of the branches of theology also needs to pay attention to the context. Contextual Christology for the Javanese Catholic mystics encourages the followers of Jesus Christ to always walk in Him. Given that He is no longer present in the earthly form, the presence of spiritual formation and mystical exercise in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ are to be pursued. This is where the role of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus promised helper, is present. In every prayer and mystical exercise of the Javanese Catholic mystics, the assertion in the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ is the Way is experienced. The ultimate goal of all this is the full union with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the House of the Father (cf. Jn 14:2).

Abstract

This interdisciplinary study attempts to relate corruption with the Catholic Church's role as the moral and social critics that compel believers to participate in confronting corruption and bribery. The interdisciplinarity is also the method applied in the study. It includes an exposition of the economic data of the GDP, its theological interpretation based on the story of Naboth and the king in the Old Testament, and strategic action field theory. The article begins with widespread corruption in ASEAN, then continues with a theological foundation for believers’ role as guardians of moral and social values. The Church, however, faces ritualism and religious formalism that cause faith values do not influence to eradicate corruption. Finally, by implementing the social study of Strategic Action Field (SAFs) theory, the paper proposes an anti-corruption movement as a strategic action for the Catholic Church to tackle corruption. The study found that the social study of Strategic Action Field (SAFs) theory allows the Church to develop the anti-corruption movement as the strategic action to create pastoral works to tackle corruption

Abstract

Internet-mediated interreligious relations could go in two directions: increasing the number of interreligious encountering with weakening process of religious exclusivism and lead people to religious fundamentalism and interreligious polarization. In the Indonesian context, the emergence of the Garis Lucu (Funny line) social media platforms allow a dialogical internet-mediated interreligious relation rather than the monologue one. This opportunity especially works in the relation between @KatolikG and @NUGarisllucu, two (unofficial) religious-based social media account that cover Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook Page. This study uses @KatolikG perspective on looking for several patterns of internet-mediated interreligious dialogue. The study finds three patterns of internet-mediated interreligious dialogue: doing daily dialogue, discussing sensitive issues, and doing social actions. Within these three works, @KatolikG contributes in sharing communal agenda and concerns that enable people to work hand in hand in supporting interreligious dialogue. Following the idea of Pope Francis to have ‘a greater discernment and responsibility for contents both sent and received,’ @KatolikG supports social cohesion among Indonesians in the context of Internet-Mediated Interreligious Dialogue.

Abstract

Azyumardi Azra significantly contributed to re-framing the Indonesian situation during his lifetime as a scholar. This article works on the literature review of the works of Azra. It aims to perform an analytical article that helps people comprehend that social reality lives in certain identity politics. Azra proposed to look at reality from the "Optimistic Perspective” that has become a distinguished perspective in looking at the present situation of Indonesian Islam. Using the social framing theory by Erving Goffman, this article contributes to performing the social life from a new perspective. In the Catholic perspective of interreligious dialogue, the work of Azyumardi Azra is in line with the contemporary efforts of Pope Francis. Abstract

The role of young people in interfaith religious communities still faces challenges in character building and understanding in the field of dialogue. This situation arises from the impact of boredom, trauma, fear, stigma, and group divisions they experience. On the other hand, the lack of motivation among young people to engage in dialogue affects their participation, which often ends up as mere enjoyment without beneficial transformation. This study will examine an effort to foster an interest in dialogue among young people through YIPC (Young Interfaith Peacemaker Community). They have been involved in religious diversity issues since 2012, encouraging youth engagement in forms of dialogue: scriptural reasoning, interfaith dialogue, and social dialogue in an open, honest, and profound manner. They are also involved in a transformative process that promotes peace for religions, society, and the nation. This effort will be analysed using Paul F. Knitter's mutualism model. The mutualism model will serve as a basis for analysing YIPC’s dialogue efforts and exploring how understanding, collaboration, and transformation can be achieved in dialogue to create cooperation in addressing interfaith issues. This research will use a literature review method. This study provides relevance for understanding the YIPC process and its potential role in fostering an interest in dialogue among young people.
