Abstract

This study aimed to synthesize menthyl cinnamate and its activity as a glucose-lowering agent. Synthesis of methyl cinnamate using Fischer esterification of cinnamic acid and menthol with sulfuric acid as a catalyst using reflux at a temperature of 60oC with a synthesis time variation of 4,5 and 6 hours. Identification of synthesis results using FTIR spectrophotometry and GC-MS. Glucose lowering activity of the synthesis product using anthrone sulfate. The synthesized compound was a yellow oil liquid with a sweet fruity aroma typical of cinnamic esters with a yield % of 95.83%, 96.38, and 91.79%, respectively, at 4, 5, and 6 hours. The synthesized product was soluble in nonpolar solvents. Analysis by FTIR showed several functional groups such as C=O, C=C, C-O, and C-H aliphatic. Analysis of the synthesis results with GC-MS showed a retention time of 18.38 minutes for menthyl cinnamate with m/z = 286. Test with anthrone sulfate gave an optimum concentration of 300 ppm with a % decrease in the glucose of 48.62%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that menthyl cinnamate can be synthesized with optimum yield in 5 hours and has potential as an antidiabetic agent.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the yield of ethyl cinnamate synthesized by the sonochemical method and its potency as a sunscreen agent. Ethyl cinnamate was synthesized from cinnamic acid and ethanol with concentrated sulfuric acid as catalysts assisted by ultrasonic waves. The Identification of compounds was carried out by infrared spectrophotometry and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy. Synthesis of ethyl cinnamate resulted in the form of clear yellow liquid with a fragrant aroma of a cinnamon ester with a 96.61% yield. Identification by an infrared spectrophotometer showed many functional groups of ethyl cinnamate.  Identification by GC-MS was given a relative abundance of 98.96%. The product of synthesis had SPF number 4.769 at 10 ppm used Mansur Equation. Based on this research, it concluded that it has potential as a sunscreen agent. The sonochemical method provides an excellent yield of ethyl cinnamate.

Abstract

Selama ini kulit labu kuning dianggap hanya sebagai sampah yang tidak terpakai. Penelitian-penelitian terhadap kulit buah labu kuning juga sangat jarang dilakukan padahal kulit labu kuning kaya akan senyawa metabolit sekunder. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan skrining fitokimia dan standarisasi ekstrak kulit labu kuning berdasarkan parameter spesifik dan non spesifik. Parameter spesifik meliputi identitas simplisia dan sifat organoleptik ekstrak. Sementara itu, parameter non spesifik yang diamati adalah susut pengeringan, kadar abu, kadar abu tidak larut asam dan uji bebas etanol. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan berdasarkan skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin dan terpenoid. Hasil standarisasi parameter spesifik menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit buah labu kuning (Cucurbita muschata) berupa ekstrak kental dengan berwarna hijau kehitaman dengan bau khas kulit buah kering.. Berdasarkan standarisasi parameter non spesifik bahwa ekstrak kulit buah labu kuning telah memenuhi persyaratan berdasarkan parameter Standar Umum Ekstrak Tumbuhan Obat. Hasil penetapan parameter non spesifik ekstrak kulit buah labu kuning diperoleh susut pengeringan 7,27% , kadar abu 16,96%, kadar abu tidak larut asam 6,70%. Abstract

Penelitian tentang kandungan total fenolik dan aktivitas antioksidan telah dilakukan pada kulit labu kuning (Cucurbita moschata). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan total fenolik dan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol kulit labu kuning (Cucurbita moschata). Ekstrak kult labu kuning diperoleh dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Kandungan total fenolik dapat diketahui dengan uji menggunakan metode kolorimetrik Folin Ciocalteu.  Aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol kulit labu kuning diuji menggunakan metode spektrofotometri dengan radikal bebas DPPH. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kandungan total fenolik pada ektrak etanol kulit labu kuning sebesar 56,62 mg GAE/g dan IC50 terhadap radikal bebas DPPH diperoleh pada konsentrasi ekstrak sebesar 64,8238 ppm. Kata Kunci: antioksidan, Cucurbita moschata, DPPH, kulit labu kuning, total fenolik
