Abstract

Bangka Belitung, including a new province that was established in 2000, was designated as the 31st province by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia based on Law no. 27 of 2000 concerning the Establishment of the Bangka Belitung Archipelago Province with the capital city of Pangkalpinang and has 7 regencies. Even though it is classified as a small province, this province has various ethnic, religious and customary diversity. The existing ethnic groups are the Malays (native ethnic group), Javanese, Sundanese, Bugis, Banten, Banjar, Madurese, Palembang, Minang, Aceh, Flores, Maluku, Manado and China (about 30%). For religion in Bangka Belitung, there are all religions in Indonesia, Islam is 81.83%, Buddhism is 8.71%, Confucianism is 5.11%, Christianity is 2.44%, Catholicism is 1.79%, and Hinduism is 0. 13%. Based on the results of the research, even though Bangka Belitung has various ethnic groups and adherents of different religions, it has good inter-religious harmony, disputes and hate speech are rare, and there has never been violence, bullying or even fighting. This proves that Bangka Belitung has an attitude of tolerance that can be used as an example for other provinces. Based on the results of the researcher's analysis, the main factor causing the harmonious harmony of religions in this province is the very important and strategic role of their respective religious leaders. Religious leaders have their own strategies in educating their followers to have a high sense of tolerance towards other religions. Of course, the strategy carried out in each religion also refers to the teachings of their respective holy books which instruct that fellow religious persons must respect, appreciate and spread peace and love so that religious life becomes safe and peaceful.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions developed to prevent radicalism through peaceful, open, and moderate education patterns. The role encounters new challenges marked by the formation of urban Muslims and the potential vulnerability to radical ideologies facilitated by digital media exposure. In this context, the curriculum should be updated to accommodate urban Muslim culture while preventing radicalism. Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Islamic Boarding School has a complex curriculum and material content. The primary effort of this school in facing the modern era is by applying the principle of religious moderation in the learning curriculum. Therefore, this qualitative study aimed to examine the curriculum used by UII Islamic Boarding School to strengthen the perspective of religious moderation for students. Primary data consisted of leaders and alumni of UII Islamic Boarding School Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, secondary data comprised written sources from journal articles, books, theses, and dissertations that discussed Islamic boarding schools. Data were also collected and analyzed using interviews and phenomenological techniques, respectively. The results showed that the curriculum material was oriented to form the character of moderate students in the modern era. This could be seen from the students' profile graduates as agents of peace among religious communities with the capacity of faith stability, intellectual and reasoning abilities, da’wah (proselytizing) ability, and proficiency in foreign languages. In the UII Islamic Boarding School, the curriculum material's contents were dominated by a model based on religious moderation seen in the syllabus or subject. Therefore, the thoughts produced by the alumni became moderate, and this was appropriate to the vision and mission of UII, which was to produce Muslim scientists who were rahmatalilalamiin.

Abstract

The results of several observations regarding the religious tolerance attitudes of students in Bangka Belitung are pretty worrying, even though some tend to be radical. This research explores the paradigm of religious moderation in the Islamic religious education curriculum at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Bangka Belitung. This research explores qualitatively the application of religious moderation in the curriculum of Islamic religious education material. Research data was taken from the MAN Pangkal Pinang and MAN 1 Muntok curriculum documents. Researchers also surveyed by distributing questionnaires to 346 students from the two schools. The research results show that the content of religious moderation has been integrated into the Islamic religious education curriculum, both in Jurisprudence, History of Islamic Culture, Al-Qur'an Hadith, and Aqidah Akhlak. However, the tendency towards a radical and robust understanding of Islam is still strong. It is evident from the survey results, namely 55.4% of respondents from MAN Pangkal Pinang and 53% of respondents from MAN 1 Muntok stated that adhering to the Pancasila ideology is more important. Almost half of the students do not agree that Pancasila should be made the state ideology. This phenomenon must receive serious attention from the government so that they comply with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Indonesia.
