Abstract

Abstract

Climate change is a phenomenon of environmental damage due to the increased intensity of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere, which causes the surface temperature of the earth. The carbon dioxide emission is a form of environmental degradation caused by economic activities. This study analyzed the relationship of macroeconomic variables and the carbon dioxide emission in each of the four ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand). The used of macroeconomic variables (GDP, trade openness, energy consumption, and the exchange rate) is shown to explain the carbon dioxide emission. In this study, Vector Auto regression Exogenous (VARX) method is used to analyze the impact of economic activities on the movement of carbon dioxide emissions. The data used time series with a vulnerable time of the year 1981-2013. The estimation results from these studies show that the GDP variable has the greatest contribution to the dynamics of carbon dioxide emissions in each ASEAN 4 countries. This empirical finding suggests that economic activity has an influence on the growth of carbon dioxide emissions.

Abstract

The economic growth of a country is inseparable from the balance of trade, mainly the export and import activity. Globalization urges a country to actively socialize and provide infrastructure and facilities to support productivity and improve competitiveness in the international market. Increasing commodity export value affects the balance of trade to reach surplus, and increasing import value causes the balance of trade deficit. This study aims to analyze Indonesia’s non-oil and gas commodity market concentration. Trade Specialization Ratio (TSR) result shows a tendency for Indonesia’s non-oil and gas commodities to be both exporters and importers before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The strategic plan to increase the product competitiveness in the international market can be in the form of increased productivity and quality; cooperating with several parties such as central and regional government, private parties, and also the general public in the planning for differentiating products and export destination, compliance with international product certification standard, tariff policy, and strengthening the economic institutions within the trade activity. Those efforts are taken to achieve national economic growth and decrease regional economic disparities. How to Cite:Yuliati, L., Komariyah, S., Adenan, M., & Prianto, F. W. (2022). Abstract

In the last ten years, Indonesia has been carrying out massive infrastructure development. The goal is to facilitate community mobility which has an impact on economic growth. Infrastructure development also aims to increase the Human Development Index even though it does not directly affect it. One of the provinces that contributed to infrastructure development was East Java, with the Human Development Index during the 2018-2022 period increasing and tending to stagnate. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to identify the influence of infrastructure development on the Human Development Index, including identifying the influence of poverty on the Human Development Index. The research methodology used is quantitative with a Geographically Weighted Panel Regression (GWPR) approach that allows to comprehensively identify the Regional Development Index in East Java. The results obtained were that the variables of Infrastructure Development with the dimensions of Road Length (6,172) and Number of Schools (2,686) had an impact on the Human Development Index in East Java. Meanwhile, the poverty variable (-6,139) has no effect on the Human Development Index (HDI). However, simultaneously the variables of Infrastructure Development and Poverty affect the National Development Index (HDI) with a calculation of 64.42 > 2.4202.
