Abstract

Using used cooking oil in culinary harms human health because this oil is carcinogenic due to being easily oxidized when it is isogenic. In addition, if used cooking oil becomes waste from household kitchens, it will hurt the earth in the form of the environment. The use of simple technology can help recycle used cooking oil into laundry or body soap, a product that can also be used for daily household needs by the community. The Andalas University community engagement team conducted the training through an online workshop based on the Zoom application on June 4, 2020, which 133 participants attended. The speaker processed used cooking oil with NaOH solution and natural dyes (according to the dose) directly in front of the participants. The participants practised it in their respective homes. Discussions between participants and speaker were conducted interactively, guided by a workshop moderator. At the end of the session, the speaker and participants could demonstrate the soaps recycled from used cooking oil in their respective kitchens. The follow-up to the activity was creating and managing WhatsApp groups as a forum for proactive communication with related topics. Creative participants produce soaps, which can be used for families, reducing daily expenses. It was recommended that the best-produced soaps could also be marketed to the public.

Abstract

Pasar Rabu Tani (PRT) is an online media for buying and selling transactions between producers and consumers of food needs, in the form of a digital shop on the site https://pasarrabutani.com/. PRT created an alternative form of the market by uniting small-scale food business actors in a cooperative called the Koperasi Pemasaran Mandiri dan Merdeka. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, PRT must shift the marketing system from conventional direct meetings between producers and consumers to a contextual system where producers and consumers cannot have direct meetings. Digital stores are one of the solutions for market media during a pandemic by utilizing information and communication technology products. The management of this market in terms of buying and selling is carried out by special operators who act as website managers, data administrators, and delivery personnel. The methods used were enhancing product quality by producers, socializing the online shopping system to consumers, and assisting operators of PRT in running a business. The digital strategy in the marketing and transactions of food products makes it easy for managers to obtain a database of potential producers and products and a database of possible consumer performance, both from within and outside West Sumatra. Digital stores that are displayed online, of course, reach consumers without space and time limits, which affects increasing producer income.

Abstract

Batu Busuk has an excellent opportunity to become one of the tourist areas in the eastern region of Padang City. As a tourist area, the aspects of comfort and cleanliness in the area and surroundings are essential to provide a memorable travel experience, including the residential areas nearby. Lack of public awareness of waste management and waste treatment and no application of the 3R principles of reduce, reuse and recycle are the problems encountered in Batu Busuk. The community service implementation team carried out a series of activities from 2021-2022 to support sustainable tourism development. This activity aims to increase community understanding of waste and the importance of waste management and introduce and enhance the formation of a waste bank in Batu Busuk. The activities included counselling on waste management, comparative studies and field visits to Farmers Women Group Tunas Harapan and Panca Daya waste bank, which have implemented the treatment of organic and non-organic waste into various economically valuable products. It can be concluded that waste management in Batu Busuk is needed to support sustainable tourism. A Batu Busuk Waste Bank unit is required to effectively solve the waste management problem and reduce waste generation in Batu Busuk and its tourism area. Training on the method to treat both organic waste into plant nutrients and non-organic waste into various crafts must be conducted. The products have economic value and are an effective solution for reducing the volume of waste.
