Abstract

A combustion process in power plants, industry and transportation can cause air pollution problems, one of which is the pollutant of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) gas. One of the stages of air quality management is monitoring. In monitoring air quality, there are several factors that need to be considered because they can affect the measurement, there are meteorological factors. This study analyzes how temperature, humidity, rainfall and wind speed affect the measured NO2 concentration. NO2 and meteorological concentration data were taken at the same time at the location of the DKI-1 air quality monitoring station (Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, DKI Jakarta). Analysis of the relationship between measured NO2 concentrations with temperature, humidity, rainfall and wind speed was performed using multiple linear regression analysis. The analysis showed that there was a strong relationship between NO2 concentration and four meteorological factors. The R2 value indicates the effect of the four meteorological factors on NO2 concentrations is 38.3% and the remaining 61.7% is influenced by other factors not included in the measurements in this study.

Abstract

Kampung Sarasah, as a thematic village, has had economic potential in the form of freshwater ornamental fish farming activities since 2020. The unavailability of a clean water supply system is one of the hindering factors for the growth and development of the area. Therefore, a preliminary study is needed for the provision of clean water supply in the area in the form of a preliminary design. This activity aims to provide a description and socialization of the technical plan for clean water supply in Kampung Sarasah, Padang City. The Preliminary design of the clean water supply system is carried out in Kampung Sarasah, Bungus Timur Village, Bungus Teluk Kabung Sub-District, Padang City. The preliminary design of the clean water supply system in Kampung Sarasah is conducted in several key stages, including a survey of the community's conditions and mapping of the Kampung Sarasah area, observation, socialization, and field measurements using Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment and the utilization of Google Earth application for selecting the route of transmission and distribution pipes for the clean water supply system plan. The capacity of the clean water treatment installation in the Kampung Sarasah area is 1.0 L/second, consisting of coagulation-flocculation unit, sedimentation unit, filtration unit, and disinfection unit. The capacity of the main distribution pipe network in the area is 1.2 L/second, using 2-inch HDPE pipes with a length of approximately 1.7 km. The estimated cost of the Sarasah Thematic Village Clean Water Supply System, based on community empowerment and excluding the procurement and construction of Water Treatment Plant and 15 m³ Reservoir, is Rp. 144,050,400. Following the preliminary design of the Sarasah Thematic Village Clean Water Supply System, it is recommended to proceed with detailed engineering design to support the smooth development of the system.

Abstract

Batu Busuk has an excellent opportunity to become one of the tourist areas in the eastern region of Padang City. As a tourist area, the aspects of comfort and cleanliness in the area and surroundings are essential to provide a memorable travel experience, including the residential areas nearby. Lack of public awareness of waste management and waste treatment and no application of the 3R principles of reduce, reuse and recycle are the problems encountered in Batu Busuk. The community service implementation team carried out a series of activities from 2021-2022 to support sustainable tourism development. This activity aims to increase community understanding of waste and the importance of waste management and introduce and enhance the formation of a waste bank in Batu Busuk. The activities included counselling on waste management, comparative studies and field visits to Farmers Women Group Tunas Harapan and Panca Daya waste bank, which have implemented the treatment of organic and non-organic waste into various economically valuable products. It can be concluded that waste management in Batu Busuk is needed to support sustainable tourism. A Batu Busuk Waste Bank unit is required to effectively solve the waste management problem and reduce waste generation in Batu Busuk and its tourism area. Training on the method to treat both organic waste into plant nutrients and non-organic waste into various crafts must be conducted. The products have economic value and are an effective solution for reducing the volume of waste.

Abstract

Increasing Green House Gases (GHG), including Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), have the potential to increase global temperatures, thereby causing climate change. Total CO₂ from human activities, for example transportation, electricity generation, industry, trade and agriculture, is expressed as a carbon footprint. Andalas University (Unand) has facilities that produce GHGs. This research aims to analyze the carbon footprint in Unand in the transportation sector. Samples were taken at the main gate (point 1) and back gate (point 2) Unand. For these two locations, the number of vehicles and fuel is calculated using the direct calculation method. The carbon footprint calculation refers to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The next step is to identify the potential for GHG reduction in Unand. The alternative GHG reduction observed is the absorption of CO₂ by vegetation. The research results show that the total carbon footprint on the Limau Manis Unand Campus is 2,221,020 kgCO₂eq/year from Point 1 and Point 2. The total CO₂ eq absorption capacity by vegetation on the Limau Manis Unand Campus is 9,297,557.51 kgCO₂ equivalent/year. When compared with the total CO₂ eq from transportation activities, the potential for reducing CO2 eq by vegetation is quite large. So, the Unand Campus road vegetation is still sufficient to reduce the 'contribution' of CO₂ eq from transportation activities in Unand to greenhouse gases. However, it is necessary to consider other possible sources of CO₂ besides transportation and the need to maintain existing vegetation
