Abstract

This study was aimed to describe the deixis usage in the novel of Ketika Cinta Bertasbih 1 by Habiburrahman El-Shirazy. Theoretically, this study is expected to be useful for the researcher of language and literature, and practically, this research can contribute the importance of understanding and preserving literature through language. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the content. Furthermore, the data collection had been transcribed and grouped based on the characteristic, form, and function that were related to the formulation of the research objectives. Based on the data analysis, this analysis found the usage of all kinds of deixis included person (I, you, they, we, he/she), time (now, tomorrow, later), place (here), discourse (it, that), and social (sir).

Abstract

In academic discourse, article abstract is a genre with certain structure. This article is focused on the rhetorical structure or the move of the scientific article abstract. The data were taken from seven article abstracts in English, in one language journal. The result showed that scientific article abstract can be formed by five moves: background, statement, method, and result of the research as well as the comment about the result of the research. Not all moves can be found in one article abstract. Most of abstract consists of three or four moves. The second move -statement of the research- and the third move –method of the research are the most important part as it always appears in the whole data corpus.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Proses belajar mengajar di sekolah di Indonesia saat ini mulai menggabungkan sistem pembelajaran daring dan luring seiring dengan menurunnya jumlah kasus Pandemi Covid-19. Namun, sekolah kejuruan yang melakukan praktikum di laboratorium, seperti SMK Jawa Tengah, Semarang, masih mengutamakan keselamatan siswa dan guru menggunakan sistem daring. Salah satu materi yang sesuai untuk diajarkan menggunakan sistem daring adalah Keterampilan Membaca karena bacaan ditampilkan melalui platform pembelajaran daring dan siswa memahami bacaan seolah mereka belajar secara luring. Dalam pengabdian masyarakat Program Studi Sastra Inggris, FIB, UNDIP ini, penulis memberikan pelatihan membaca dengan teknik pemahaman bacaan sepintas lalu, secara dwi bahasa, untuk mengakomodir kemampuan berbahasa Inggris siswa yang terbatas, agar siswa memahami bacaan dengan baik dan menjawab pertanyaan dengan benar.      Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa siswa Kelas X Jurusan Teknik Elektrika Industri memahami bacaan dengan lebih cepat sesuai target pelatihan. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini perlu diberikan agar siswa lebih mudah memahami teks berbahasa Inggris.Kata kunci :  pengabdian masyarakat, pelatihan membaca, teknik pemahaman bacaan sepintas lalu, dwi bahasa, daring ABSTRACT Indonesian schools’ learning process is now starting to combine on line and off line learning system due to the declining number of Pandemic Covid-19 case. However, vocational school, holding laboratory practices, still use on line system for the sake of their students and teachers’ safety, such as Central Java State Vocational Highschool Semarang. One of suitable learning material for this on-line system is the Reading Skill since the text is being shared on the learning platform and the students are able to comprehend it as if they are studying on off line system. On this community service of English Literature Study Program, FIB, UNDIP, the writer holds reading training using skimming and scanning techniques, bilingually, to accommodate the limited students’ English performance so that they comprehend the text and answer the questions correctly. The result shows that 10th grade students of Industrial Electrical are able to understand the text faster as it is expected as the training target. Thus, this training should be given regularly so that students can understand the English reading comprehension text better.Keywords : community service, reading training, scanning and skimming techniques, bilingual, on line

Abstract

ABSTRAKPandemi Covid 19 yang marak sejak Maret 2020 belum tertanggulangi sampai sekarang yang membuat segala aktivitas kehidupan termasuk proses belajar mengajar dan pelatihan-pelatihan harus beralih ke sistem daring (online). Oleh karena itu, pelatihan dalam rangka pengabdian masyarakat jurusan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Undip, di SMK Negeri 10 Semarang juga dilakukan secara daring. Pelatihan berfokus pada mengajarkan kecakapan praktis, yaitu menulis paragraf pendek dalam bahasa Inggris. Penulisan paragraf mengikuti struktur yang dinamai P.E.E.L., singkata dari Point, Example, Evidence, dan Link. Struktur ini memberikan panduan praktis menulis paragraf pendek yang efisien dan lengkap. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah metode Dwi-Bahasa (Bilingual Method) yang mengikuti tiga tahap pengajaran, yaitu Presentation, Practice, and Production, yang sangat tepat untuk mengajarkan kecakapan berbahasa Inggris bagi pembelajar bukan penutur asli bahasa Inggris yang kemampuan bahasa Inggrisnya masih belum cukup memadai. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa peserta pelatihan, siswa kelas XII Jurusan Teknik Konstruksi Kapal Baja di SMK Negeri 10 Semarang, dapat mengikuti pelatihan dengan baik dan cukup antusias. Simpulan yang bisa ditarik adalah pelatihan praktis kecakapan berbahasa perlu diberikan secara periodik karena dapat menambah bekal praktis siswa dalam menghadapi dunia kerja.Kata kunci :  pengabdian masyarakat, struktur paragraf P.E.E.L., metode Dwi-Bahasa

Abstract

ABSTRAKPengabdian kepada Masyarakat oleh tim Pengabdian Masyarakat Jurusan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Diponegoro sebagai kegiatan tridharma regular tidak terhalangi oleh maraknya pandemi Covid 19. Pelatihan dengan topik cara penulisan paragraf deskriptif tehnikal dilakukan secara daring (online) dan ditujukan pada siswa kelas XI jurusan Teknik Pemesinan SMK Negeri Jawa Tengah Semarang. Pelatihan menggunakan metode dwi bahasa (Bilingual Method) yang menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia sebagai media untuk menyampaikan materi sedangkan materi yang diberikan dalam Bahasa Inggris. Pelatihan secara sistematis dibagi dalam tiga tahap: presentasi materi, diskusi dalam bentuk tanya jawab, dan latihan terpandu. Relevansi materi dengan jurusan yang sedang diambil siswa membuat siswa kelas XI jurusan Teknik Pemesinan SMK Negeri Jawa Tengah Semarang antusias mengikuti setiap tahap yang diberikan termasuk menulis satu paragraf deskriptif tehnikal untuk bahan evaluasi kegiatan pelatihan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa perlu diberikan pelatihan praktis yang relevan dengan jurusannya sebagai tambahan bekal menghadapi dunia kerja yang semakin banyak tuntutannya.Kata kunci :  penulisan deskriptif tehnikal, metode bi-lingual, SMK Negeri Jawa Tengah Semarang

Abstract

ABSTRAKSistem daring (online) menjadi jalan keluar bagi larangan tatap muka langsung di dalam kelas sejak adanya pandemi Covid 19 yang sudah menyebar di Indonesia sejak bulan Maret 2020. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat oleh tim jurusan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universita Diponegoro di SMK Negeri Jawa Tengah Semarang juga diakukan secara daring dengan menggunakan Google Classroom sesuai media daring yang digunakan di SMKN tersebut. Pelatihan berisi tentang cara membaca teks berbahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan strategi yang disingkat D.R.E.A.M.S. Agar pelatihan berjalan dengan efisien dan menyenangkan, mengingat kemampuan berbahasa Inggris peserta yang masih kurang memadai, digunakan metode dwi-bahasa (bilingual method) yang terdiri atas tiga tahap pengajaran, yaitu Presentation, Practice, and Production. Pelatihan singkat tersebut menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas X jurusan Teknik Instalasi Tenaga Listrik di SMK Negeri Jawa Tengah Semarang mengikuti pelatihan dengan gembira dan aktif. Simpulan yang dapat ditarik adalah pelatihan singkat tentang strategi membaca yang efisien perlu diberikan secara periodik, selain untuk mengurangi kejenuhan akibat rutinitas pengajaran daring yang sudah sekian lama, juga bisa untuk menambah skill praktis bagi para siswa.Kata kunci: D.R.E.A.M.S., metode dwi-bahasa, SMK Negeri Jawa Tengah Semarang

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul Korespondensi Dalam Bahasa Inggris Oleh Pengusaha Ukir Di Jepara yang bertujuan menggambarkan pemakaian bahasa Inggris tulis oleh pengusaha ukir Jepara, yang dikelompokan ke dalam tiga kategori yaitu pengusaha besar, pengusaha menengah, dan pengusaha kecil. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah sosiolinguistik. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui data sekunder, kuesioner dan wawancara. Responden ini dikelompokan ke dalam pengusaha besar, pengusaha menengah, dan pengusaha kecil. Analisis dilakukan terhadap item dalam kuesioner dan hubungan antar item. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan bahwa koserpondensi dalam bahasa Inggris lebih banyak dilakukan oleh pengusaha besar. Pengusaha besar mengerti lebih banyak mengenai tatanan surat dan bagian-bagian surat daripada pengusaha menengah dan pengusaha kecil. Ada kesamaan bahwa ketiga kelompok kategori tetap menyadari pentingnya peningkatan kemepuan berbahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Language, both spoken and written, whether it is alive or dead, will becontinuously preservedby linguist and historian as an evidence of human being civilization as it is used as medium of knowing the culture of its users. Through language in prescription onoral story, a culture is shared. Thus, when a language extinct after its speakers weregone so that they cannot passing it intotheir future users or after their descendantsshifttheir language into another more beneficial languages than theirs so that the previous one isno longer used,a culture is also dead as it only written and not used. To preserve the language, language maintenance is needed. One of the ways to do it is by using it in tourism site to let people aware of their own language and culture as well as to introduce it into public. This research showshow Javaneselanguage is integrated in Dhoplang Javanese Traditional Market in Wonogiri, Central Java as it sells Javanese traditional foodusing Javanese traditional wrapping made of banana leaves. The management is also ordering buyers and requesting sellers to use Javanese language and wear Javanese traditional clothes. The result shows that thetourism site remindssellers and buyers of their language and introduce the language it into people who are not Javanese since they know what the meaning and philosophy of the food names andwrappingthatserves as the language preservation.Keywords:Javanese language and culture maintenance, Dhoplang, food and food  wrapping names

Abstract

Vocabularies are important parts of all languages across the globe. When vocabularies develop through human communication, the language is considered as a living language instead of a dead language. English is a living language that undergoes some developments both in grammar and vocabularies. Those developments include pronunciation, spelling, and meaning that occur in every period, that is to say, Old English, Middle English, and Modern English. In addition, English has cosmopolitan and resourcefulness characteristics. English is a cosmopolitan language since it borrows and adopts some vocabularies from other languages and resourcefulness means that English undergoes some affixation through derivation and inflection. This article discusses the metamorphoses of English vocabularies in several periods.

Abstract

Javanese Language is learnt and studied by many people throughout the world as it has a complex system of language covering the letters (Javanese Language Orthography), the politeness level, and also the history and the culture behind the language. However, there is a concern on    Javanese Language shift by its young speakers because they tend to use Indonesian Language       as Indonesia’s Official Language, English as the world’s international language, or another popular language in the world like Korean with its K-Pop phenomenon. Javanese Language maintenance is then needed to keep these young generation as the language users who will pass it to the next generation. One of the ways to do it is embracing their world so that the language        is considered good and beneficial for them as the young generation. Since music and song is      very close to the young generation as they are very up to date with the latest trend of it,               the language maintenance can be done through exposing Javanese kinds of music and songs. Recently, a kind of Javanese music called Campursari along with its songs are gaining popularity with the fame of The Godfather of The Brokenheart, Didi Kempot, who creates thousands of Campursari songs full of love stories in the lyric, particularly the brokenheart storied. Out of nowhere, the young generation, who are Javanese, who are Javanese but do not understand Javanese Language or even who are not Javanese and not understand Javanese Language are joining the crowd and becoming his fans that previously filled with the old generation.              This research shows how Junior Highschool Students maintain the Javanese Language usage       by liking the music, singing the songs and understanding the Javanese Language in the lyric.     This research also observes whether they still know or able to sing traditional Javanese songs    they exposed from their family, environment (neighbourhood) or Javanese Language class at school that shows their Javanese Language maintenance. Keywords: language maintenance, Javanese Language, students, Junior Highschool, Campursari, Javanese music and song
