Abstract

This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution patterns of settlements and the factors influencing their distribution in Tanah Sepenggal Subdistrict. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with the population based on registered household data in the area. A total of 200 household heads were selected as the sample using simple random sampling with the Slovin formula. Secondary data were obtained from relevant institutions and analyzed using the Nearest Neighbor Analysis (NNA) technique by mapping settlement points to identify spatial patterns. The factors analyzed include strategic location, topography, water availability, public facilities, accessibility, land use, and river setback boundaries. The findings indicate that the settlement distribution pattern in Tanah Sepenggal is categorized as clustered, suggesting a concentration of settlements in specific areas. This pattern results from the combined influence of physical and socio-economic factors that lead communities to choose settlement locations with better access to resources and public services. These findings contribute to sustainable spatial planning that aligns with local geographic characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to identify existing facilities and assess the land carrying capacity in relation to tourist visits at Gandoriah Beach, Pariaman City. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative techniques. A total of 100 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while quantitative data were obtained from questionnaires distributed to visitors. The findings reveal that: (1) The condition of amenities at Gandoriah Beach is categorized as very good based on facility assessments and observations; (2) The physical carrying capacity of the area indicates that the number of visitors has exceeded its sustainable limit, highlighting the need for intervention by relevant authorities to regulate and limit tourist numbers in order to maintain comfort and environmental sustainability; (3) Visitor satisfaction levels fall within the "satisfied" category, with average scores of 3.78 and 3.67. These findings underscore the importance of ongoing evaluation of tourism facilities and environmental carrying capacity control to enhance the quality of visitor experience and ensure the sustainable development of Gandoriah Beach as a tourism destination.

Abstract

This study aims to determine 1) the level of suitability of wet-rice land on food agricultural land in Tanah Datar Regency, 2) existing land cover in Tanah Datar Regency and 3) potential wet-rice land development areas in Tanah Datar Regency. The method used is a descriptive approach with quantitative research. Data was processed using fuzzy logic, supervised classification, and spatial data analysis. The results of this study show 1) Tanah Datar Regency has 3 levels of land suitability with an index value of 0-0.59 which is classified at the level of unsuitable to less suitable for rice paddy agricultural crops, with an area of 7,583.9 Ha with a percentage of 5.5%. The second category of land suitability with an index value of 0.6-0.79 is classified as moderately suitable to suitable, with an area of 98,955.7 Ha with a percentage of 71.8%. The third category of land suitability with an index value of 0.8-1.0 which is classified as moderately - highly suitable for wetland agricultural crops, with an area of 31,267.7 Ha with a percentage of 22.7% of the total area of the study site. 2) Analysis of existing land cover using Landsat 8 satellite images in 2023 in Tanah Datar District shows that the structure of land cover in 2023 is as follows: dense vegetation cover covering 93,385.5 Ha with a percentage of 67.9%, followed by agricultural land covering 35,630.6 Ha with a percentage of 25.8%, settlements covering 1,828.3 Ha with a percentage of 1.4%, open land covering 137.6 Ha with a percentage of 0.09%, and waters.

Abstract

Padang Barat District is a highly vulnerable area to tsunami hazards, yet it currently lacks a comprehensive spatial analysis–based mitigation strategy. This study aims to (1) map the areas most susceptible to tsunami risk to support mitigation planning in Padang Barat District, Padang City, and (2) analyze effective and applicable tsunami disaster mitigation strategies to minimize potential casualties and damages. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, utilizing the Weighted Overlay method within a Geographic Information System (GIS) framework for vulnerability mapping, and the Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM) method for formulating mitigation strategies. The mapping results indicate three levels of tsunami vulnerability: high (38.03%), medium (55.52%), and low (6.44%). ISM analysis identifies the determination of safe evacuation routes as the primary driving factor in effective mitigation. Key contributing factors to high vulnerability include the proximity to coastlines and rivers, low elevation, and relatively flat topography. The study concludes that the development of mitigation strategies must be grounded in spatial vulnerability analysis to enhance community preparedness and reduce potential tsunami impacts. This research provides practical contributions to area-based disaster planning and supports the formulation of mitigation policies in coastal regions.
