Abstract

AbstractThe article discusses lexical cohesion of words of wisdom on MH FM Radio’s Spirit Hari Ini and Immanuel Radio’s Untaian Kata in Solo. It aims at finding the themes of the words of wisdom and describing their lexical cohesion. It uses qualitative methods in four stages, namely 1) data collection using reading method, interviewing technique followed by recording technique and writing technique; 2) intuitive linguistic data collection; 3) data analysis using distributive immediate constituent technique and substitutive technique; 4) informal data presentation. The results are 1) the most found theme on SHI is patience and on UK is life; and 2) the most used lexical cohesion on SHI is antonymy, while on UK is repetition. AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas kohesi leksikal kata bijak Spirit Hari Ini Radio MH FM Solo dan Untaian Kata Radio Immanuel Solo. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan jenis tema yang terdapat dalam kumpulan kedua kata bijak tersebut serta menjelaskan dan mendeskripsikan kohesi leksikalnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan empat langkah, yaitu 1) pengumpulan data dengan metode simak, teknik simak libat cakap, dan dilanjutkan dengan teknik rekam, dan teknik catat; 2) klasifikasi data sesuai intuisi kebahasaan, 3) analisis data engan metode agih beserta teknik bagi unsur langsung dan teknik ganti, 4) penyajian data informal. Hasilnya adalah 1) tema kesabaran paling banyak ditemukan dalam SHI dan tema kehidupan paling banyak ditemukan dalam UK, serta 2) kohesi leksikal yang sering digunakan pada kata bijak SHI adalah antonimi, sedangkan pada kata bijak UK adalah repetisi.

Abstract

The aims of this article are to observe sentences which accommodate types of respond towards criticizing and apologizing expressive speech act in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children novel, and the translation techniques used. This article employed descriptive qualitative method with content analysis and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Content analysis was used to collect the data in terms of respond types. In addition, FGD used to determine the translation techniques. The researcher applied purposive sampling to determine the source of data. Furthermore, the data were validated using source triangulation and methodological triangulation. The researcher limited the data into four main characters in the novel. The research finding shows that there are 18 types of response. They are assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive. In addition, there are 14 translation techniques used. The translation techniques used are established equivalent, variation, explicitation, modulation, pure borrowing, implicitation, reduction, linguistic amplification, transposition, generalization, addition, literal, discursive creation, and paraphrase.Keywords: expressive speech act, responses, translation techniquesTEKNIK PENERJEMAHAN PADA KALIMAT YANG MENGAKOMODASI RESPON TERHADAP TINDAK TUTUR EKSPRESIF MENGKRITIK DAN MEMINTA MAAFAbstrakTujuan dari artikel ini adalah untuk meneliti kalimat yang mengakomodasi jenis – jenis respon terhadap tindak tutur mengkritik dan meminta maaf pada novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, dan teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik simak dan catat dan diskusi kelompok terpusat (FGD). Teknik simak dan catat digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data yang berupa kalimat yang mengakomodasi jenis – jenis respon. Selanjutnya, diskusi kelompok terpusat digunakan untuk menentukan teknik penerjemahan apa saja yang digunakan. Peneliti menentukan sumber data penelitian menggunakan teknik cuplik. Kemudian, data penelitian divalidasi menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi metode. Peneliti membatasi data penelitian yang berasal dari empat tokoh utama dalam novel. Temuan penelitian ini antara lain, terdapat 18 jenis respon yaitu: asertif, direktif, komisif, dan ekspresif. Sedangkan, dalam hal teknik penerjemahan terdapat 14 teknik. Teknik penerjemahan tersebut antara lain: padanan lazim, variasi, eksplisitasi, modulasi, peminjaman murni, implisitasi, reduksi, amplifikasi linguistik, transposisi, generalisasi, adisi, literal, kreasi diskursif, dan parafrasa.Kata kunci: tindak tutur ekspresif, respon, teknik penerjemahan

Abstract

The expressive skill is a verbal language skill to interact with other people. The ability of children with autism to express ideas in their mind can indicate that their receptive ability works effectively. The purpose of this research was to study types of utterances the children can produce. Data in the forms of utterances produced by the children as responses to initiating acts performed by their teachers were collected. Data were then analysed to classify them in accordance to the process the utterances were produced. The results show that the children’ skills in executing utterances are classified into four types of processes, i.e.  word imitating (subtest CELF-R); imitating, producing word, arranging word (subtest CELF-3); expressing word, producing word, imitating word (subtest CELF-4); and continuing and mentioning word.Keywords: children, autism, utterance process, expresive skillKEMAMPUAN EKSPRESIF ANAK AUTISME: SEBUAH KAJIAN PSIKOLINGUISTIKAbstrakKemampuan ekspresif adalah kemampuan bahasa secara verbal untuk saling berinteraksi. Anak autisme yang mampu dalam kemampuan ekspresif menandakan bahwa kemampuan reseptifnya sudah bekerja efektif. Tujuan penelitian adalah menjelaskan proses ujaran dari kemampuan ekspresif anak autisme. Data dalam bentuk tuturan yang dihasilkan anak autisme sebagai respons terhadap tuturan pemancing yang dilontarkan guru dikumpulkan dengan cara direkam dan ditranskripsi. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis untuk diklasifikasikan sesuai dengan jenis proses tuturan tersebut dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tuturan yang dihasilkan para anak autisme itu dapat diklasifikasikan dalam empat jenis proses produksi, yaitu menirukan kata (subtest CELF-R); menirukan, membuat kata, menyusun kata (subtest CELF-3); mengungkapkan kata, membuat kata, menirukan kata (subtest CELF-4); dan melanjutkan dan menyebutkan kata.Kata kunci: anak, autisme, proses ujaran, kemampuan ekspresif

Abstract

Public advertisements are often not just highlighting the benefits or advantages of a product or service. They also serve as a source for sharing values, ideologies and hierarchical relationship patterns between producers and users. This study aims to examine evaluative language in Indonesian advertisements across decades using appraisal theory. The focus of the study is on comparing advertisements from the 1990s and contemporary digital advertisements, using data drawn from printed advertisements from the 1990s and recent digital advertisements representing Indonesian child-nutrition and food advertising discourse. Data were collected from printed advertising materials, YouTube, and Instagram captions that were transcribed validly, then analysed qualitatively by using appraisal theory. The results of the analysis show a significant shift in appraisal patterns. Advertisements in the 1990s were dominated by normative and collective affect, hierarchical judgement of the role of mothers, and symbolic appreciation that emphasised achievement and obedience as indicators of a child's success. In contrast, current digital advertisements employ reflective psychological affect, more empathetic and implicit judgements, and evidential appreciation supported by nutritional data and emotional metaphors. The use of graduation is also increasingly intensive to emphasise the progress and long-term impact of the product. These findings suggest that changes in advertising language not only reflect shifts in marketing strategies but also indicate changing ways in which parenting and child development are discursively framed in Indonesian advertising. The study provides an empirical mapping of diachronic shifts in evaluative language in Indonesian advertising context, from a normative and collective pattern toward a more reflective and empathetic evaluative orientation within the appraisal framework.
