Abstract

Cincau Hijau leaves (Cyclea barbata L.Miers ) has been used empirically as a medicinal plant because it contains many potential compounds such as flavonoids. Cincau Hijau leaves has been known as antioxidant activity. Determination of pharmacognosy parameters and phytochemical screening of dry leaves and extracts have been carried out as well as determination of total fl avonoids content. Fresh leaves were extracts with water and Dry leaves were macerated with 96% ethanol and were then concentrated by rotavapor to obtain viscous extracts. Free radical scavenging activity of the extracts was evaluated using DPPH method. Afterwards, determination of specifi c and non-specifi c parameters were performed. Results of phytochemical screening of powder and 50% and 96% ethanol extract showed that tall the tested samples contained alkaloid, fl avonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids/ triterpenoids, coumarin. The examination of specifi c parameter showed that the extract has a thick consistency, tawny color, bitter taste, characteristic odor. In addition, water-soluble compound and 96% ethanol extract are 46.64 and 62.13% respectively whereas ethanol-soluble compounds are 39.22 and 74.72%, respectively. While the results of nonspecifi c parameters of 50% and 96 % ethanol extract displayed total ash content of 9.69 and 9.49%, respectively, acid insoluble ash content of 0.30 and 0.16%, respectively, content of water soluble ash of 9.17 and 4.30%, respectively, loss on drying of 9.35 and 8.9%, respectively, water content of 8.45 and 7.25%, respectively. Based on heavy metal contamination, Pb concentration in 50 and 96% ethanol extract are 0.0227 and 0.0333 mg/kg, respectively whereas Cd concentration are 0.1206 and 0.0022 mg/kg, respectively and total number of CFU of 4,22 x 103 and 2,30 x 103 colonies/g, respectively while molds and yeasts number of colony of 0,48 x 102 and 8,88 x 102 colonies/g, respectively. Moreover, the total flavonoid was 0,19 %. Result of DPPH inhibition test showed that IC50 96 % ethanol extract are 83,280 ppm and water extracts are 102,01 ppm

Abstract

In attempt to develop Indonesian traditional medicine (Jamu) to become standardize herbal, it is need to examine the extract that can guarantee its efficacy, quality and safety. Brotowali stem (Tinospora crispa (L.) Miers.) known has antidiabetic effect and no toxic activity. In this research, the quality and α-glukosidase inhibitor activity of ethanolic extract of brotowali stem has been determined. In the quality test were determined specific parameters (identity, organoleptic, extractable matter), non specific parameters (loss on drying, water content, total ash content, solvent residue, heavy metal, and microbial contamination), quantification of markers content (total flavonoid content with spectrophotometric UV-Vis and assay of apigenin content with densitometric method). The research showed that the extract was fulfiled the requirement, total flavonoid content was 0.52% and apigenin content was 0.03635%. The result of α-glukosidase inhibitor activity test gave IC50 of 237.26 ppm.

Abstract

Aloe vera leaf contains hydroxyanthraquinone derivatives, aloin (barbaloin and the distereoismeric 10-C glucosides of aloe-emodin anthracene) and 7-hydroxyaloin isomer and to a lesser extent aloe emodin, chrysophanol, chromone derivative and aloeresin as major glycoside-anthracene derivative. The aloin content varies in different species of aloe. The main constituent of aloin is barbaloin which is a pale yellow crystalline glycoside, soluble in water. Recent studies confirm that aloe has an antibacterial (against Staphylococcus ssp. and Streptococcus ssp.) and a fungicidal activity, so it can be used as antiseptic agent. The main purpose of this research was to obtain a physically stable liquid soap containing aloe vera. The formulation contained sodium lauryl ether sulphate with various concentrations. The obtained liquid bath soaps were evaluated cencernng their stability i.e.: viscosity, surface tension, and pH for eight weeks. Each formula gave a viscosity in the range of 8100 to 10400 cps and showed a pseudoplastic flow.

Abstract

Streptococcus mutans is one of the microbes which is responsible for the cause of bad breath. The activity of Kalanchoe pinnata (Lamk.) Pers. leaves ethanol extract is four times stronger than the water extract in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans. The aim of research is to isolate and characterize an antibacterial compound of ethanol extract of Kalanchoe pinnata (Lamk.) Pers. leaves. The extract was fractionated using column chromatography. The fractions were purified by TLC and the isolate were tested for its purity using HPLC. Isolate was characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and FTIR. Fractionation by column chromatography generated 9 fractions. The fraction VII have the highest diameter of inhibitory against Streptococcus mutans. The yield of isolate was 9.18% of the fraction VII or 0.84% of the ethanol extract with purity of 95%. Isolate was suspected as a group of saponin compound.

Abstract

Andaliman fruit (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) contain flavonoids that has antioxidantactivity. This study was conducted to obtain the effervescent granules andaliman fruit extract which has the highest antioxidant activity by DPPH free radical scavenging method. Andaliman fruit was extracted in stages using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and 70% ethanol, then dried using freeze drying method. Furthermore, the dry extract of ethanol is formulated using variation acid sources, namely citric acid and tartaric acid. The results showed that the formulas had moisture rate of 2.30 – 3.95%; fl ow rate of 2.53-4.12 g/sec; the particle size distribution with the fi nes <10%; dissolved time < 2 minutes; and a pH value of 5.48-5.65. The results of the antioxidant activity of formula I-III were 74.0; 84.9 and 91.9 ppm respectively. The conclusion of the research showed that the formula I with a combination of citric acid and tartaric acid is a formula that meets the physical quality requirements and has a strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 74.0 ppm.

Abstract

Chamomile (Chamomilla recucita L.) that contain apigenin as an active substance are known as hair-lightening agent. The application of these flowers as such is not convenient, so the incorporation of its extract in shampoos - for cleaning of both scalp and hair - gives a better outcome. In this study, six formulas Were applied, each containing 5% of chamomile extract with different concentrations of HPMC (Methocel® F4M) and other additives. The shampoos were evaluated during a six Week-storage on their physico-chemical properties (pH, viscosity, rheological characteristic at 28-30°C [room temperaturel, 40°C, and 6-7°C [chilled temperature], surface tension, foam-forming in hard and distilled water as Well as sensory properties [discoloration, odor, homo genenity]. The results showed that HPMC of 2% gave an optimum viscosity, no discoloration, no detected change on homogenenity as Well as odor until the end of six-Week storage. The viscosity the shampoo with 2% HPMC at 28-30°C was 2060.00-2080.00 cPs,at 40°C 1040.00-1080.00 cPs, and at 6-7°C 2420.00-2480.00 cPs. Having rheological characteristic of pseudoplastic, the shampoo’s surface tension Was 28.99-29.88 dyne/cin, with density ranged 1,0428- 1.0459, pH 6.26-6.34, height of foam in hard Water ranged 3.30-3.45 cm and in distilled 3.40-3.60 cm. The density, surface tension, and pH of the shampoo were in agreement with the requirements. Key words: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, chamomile, shampoo, viscosity.

Abstract

Metformin hidroklorida memiliki waktu paruh pendek sehingga ketersediannya dalam tubuh akan cepat hilang dan diperlukan pemberiaan secara berulang. Salah satu cara yaitu metformin hidroklorida diformulasikan menjadi bentuk mikroenkapsulasi dengan teknik penguapan pelarut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan metformin hidroklorida yang pelepasan obatnya dapat dikendalikan secara mikroenkapsulasi. Tahapan metode yang dilakukan yaitu bahan aktif yang digunakan didispersikan dalam cairan penyalut lalu diemulsifikasikan dalam fase pembawa yang mengandung emulgator untuk pembentukan emulsi. Selanjutnya dilakukan penguapan pelarut penyalut dengan pengadukan sehingga terbentuk mikrokapsul. Mikrokapsul yang dihasilkan selanjutnya dilakukan uji evaluasi meliputi organoleptik, morfologi, ukuran partikel, penetapan kadar, efisiensi penjerapan dan uji disolusi. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh untuk formula 1 dan formula 2 untuk ukuran partikel berturut-turut yaitu 5,632 dan 14,78 μm. Efisiensi penjerapan berturut-turut yaitu 83,17 dan 81,12%. Persen terdisolusi pada menit ke-480 berturut-turut yaitu 53,24% dan 47,54%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil uji statistik dengan anova satu arah diperoleh nilai sig 0,421 yang berarti tidak terdapat perbedaan nilai persentase terdisolusi antara kelompok etil selulosa dan metil selulosa.
