Abstract

The demand for power in Ghana is increasing at a pace of 10% each year. To shift away from traditional energy-intensive economic development and its negative environmental impact, the government has begun to heavily promote the development of solar photovoltaic technology. This study explored the challenges and potential of solar energy entrepreneurship as well as the capacity of solar energy enterprises in the production and supply of solar energy, and the methodologies for implementing solar energy businesses in Ghana's Accra Metropolis. The research took a qualitative approach and used an exploratory design. The data were analysed thematically with the aid of NVivo version 11.0. In comparison to predicted market demands, solar energy firms did not have the resources to produce and supply solar energy. In addition, to promote their operations in Ghana, solar energy companies have used techniques such as discounts, installment payments, and price reductions for goods and services. Furthermore, high-interest rates, inadequate incentives, insufficient access to finance, and a lack of technical know-how for the operation and maintenance of solar energy technology were all obstacles to investment in solar energy generation. Notwithstanding the difficulties associated with its operations, the prospects for solar energy production in Ghana remain bright. The study recommended that the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with renewable energy technology companies, educate the public about the benefits of solar energy technologies; the Ministry of Energy, in partnership with the government, ensure that the promise made in the energy policy of a 50% tax reduction on all imports of electrical goods is achieved. Moreover, financial institutions should make it easier for energy-producing firms to obtain credit.

Abstract

The study set out to determine the influence of conflict management on the performance of Guinness Ghana Limited, Accra-Headquarters as an organisation. The study employed a quantitative research approach and descriptive survey and inferential statistics as the study design. The study was based on the views of 200 employees from the study institution with a self-administered questionnaire as the main research instrument. The study found that the higher the organization adopted negotiation, the more the performance increased, hence it helped improve the general working environment. It was also found that meditation has been used as a conflict management strategy and has proved to be an effective conflict management strategy. Finally, an effective arbitration channel was in place and it had a direct influence on the level of organizational performance. In the light of these findings, it was recommended that management should focus on increasing the utilisation of conflict management strategies such as negotiation, mediation and arbitration to increase organizational performance. In addition, the use of negotiation, mediation and arbitration as forms of conflict management strategy should be encouraged in resolving conflicts in the organization

Abstract

Entrepreneurship becomes an integral program for planning the progress of a country. The development of this program then becomes the responsibility of all parties, educational institutions, the government and the public. Educational institutions today, almost in all disciplines, seem to consider entrepreneurship as one of the learning programs. Vocational high school is one of the formal educational institutions designed to develop this program for its students. Various entrepreneurial models are tried to be developed to encourage further students' interest in developing entrepreneurship programs. Therefore, this study examines the partnership model in entrepreneurship development at Muhammadiyah vocational schools in Palembang, Indonesia. The study sample was 258 students from all Muhammadiyah vocational schools. The required data is primary, with a questionnaire as a data collection tool. The analyses used were factor analysis and regression. The results of the factor analysis extracted from all the indicators used gave rise to three variables that influence the decisions of entrepreneurial students, namely motivation, learning and perception. As for regression testing, only motivation and knowledge significantly affect entrepreneurial decisions, while perception has a significant effect.

Abstract

The study assessed the effect of capital adequacy requirement on profitability of the Ghana Stock Exchange banks between 2013 and 2018. The analyses were based on the Ghana Stock Exchange secondary statistics. The analyzes specifically assessed trends in the capital adequacy ratios and Ghana Stock Exchange profitability of banks and determine the effect of capital Adequacy Ratio on profitability of listed banks. The study found that the banks' average Capital Adequacy Ratio was (Mean=17.21%) in the time. While the mean Return on Equity (Mean=25.46%) and the mean Return on Asset was found to be (Mean=3.05%). While the profitability was adverse and insignificantly affected by the Capital Adequacy Ratio, they were adverse and small in terms of the Return on Equity, while Capital Adequacy Ratio had a positive and important impact on the Return on Equity. Bank size did not have a major effect on Return on Equity and Return on Asset. For local banks, the mean Capital Adequacy Ratio for international banks was approximately the same. Therefore, the study suggested that businesses continue to operate, if not, to guarantee banks are able to cope with any 'credit crunch' economic recession. Banks can ensure that surplus capital is transformed into investment to maximize investment returns.

Abstract

This paper discusses the trend of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its role in the healthcare industry. AI is being used to improve efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare. Still, challenges remain, such as privacy and data protection and healthcare workers' hesitancy to replace their work with technology. This study aims to see opportunities for using AI in the health sector and understand existing problems, such as barriers to significant initial investments. This study uses a qualitative approach and focuses on the author's understanding based on secondary sources and personal experience. The study results show that AI can assist health workers in making diagnoses and providing more efficient health services. However, it still has to be used as a tool and cannot replace the role of health workers as a whole.

Abstract

The study sought to analyse the determinants of mobile banking adoption among bank customers of Agricultural Development Bank. Explanatory design of quantitative approach was used. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 420 respondents of which 380 successfully responded yielding a 90% response rate. Questionnaire was the main data collection instrument used and the data collected are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The study found that communication, pursuance, perceived risk, perceived usefulness and transaction speed as the significant determinants of mobile banking adoption. In addition, respondents identify poor internet connectivity and high service charges as the main challenges associated with mobile banking. Therefore, it is recommended that Agricultural Development Bank should ensure speed and cost efficiency in its mobile banking service. Furthermore, mobile banking departments activities need to be closely supervised and audited in evaluating the developments, expansions and challenges of services rendering.

Abstract

The study determined the knowledge of workers on occupational health hazards and safety practices at Sokoban Wood Village in Ghana. A descriptive design with a quantitative approach was adopted. The study employed convenience sampling of the non-probability technique to select respondents to participate in the study. Data was collected from 83 respondents using structured questionnaires and analyzed descriptively with the aid of SPSS software. These findings shed light on the potential risks and challenges faced by the participants, highlighting the importance of occupational safety measures and health education to mitigate these hazards. Woodworkers were aware of occupational hazards associated with their work. The lack of proactive measures in response to noise pollution and the reliance on self-medication for airway-related ailments highlight the need for improved awareness, education, and healthcare services. It was recommended, among other things, that the leaders and managers should link up with local health authorities to provide comprehensive training programs that educate woodworkers about the potential hazards they face in their occupation, particularly related to sawdust and noise exposure.

Abstract

Allergic rhinitis often co-occurs with common illnesses, such as rhinosinusitis, asthma, and otitis media with effusion, which significantly contributes to the severity of these conditions and negatively impacts the individuals’ quality of life. Additionally, the pathogenesis of most upper and lower respiratory illnesses is affected by the presence of allergic rhinitis, according to the World Allergy Organization (WAO). The study aimed to assess the knowledge, prevention, and management of Allergic Rhinitis among inhabitants of Santasi-Apire in the Ashanti Region, Ghana. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study with a quantitative technique. The target population was inhabitants aged 15 years and above. A sample size of 100 was selected for the study using a stratified sampling method. Ethical clearance was sought from Kumasi Metropolitan and the health directorate Committee for data collection using both open and closed types of questionnaires which were structured according to the objectives of the study. Data collected were collated, compiled, and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science Software (SPSS) version 20.0 and results were presented in the form of tables and charts according to their frequencies and percentages. The study discloses that most Allergic Rhinitis cases are triggered by dust, of which rhinorrhea the most is evidenced as the sign and symptom. Inhabitants of the Santasi-Apire community know that allergic rhinitis is a life-threatening condition. However, sprinkling water, avoidance of dusty areas, smoking, and triggers of allergic rhinitis are the preventive measures used by Santasi-Apire inhabitants.

Abstract

Background: Traditional medicine is increasing globally, especially in rural communities of developing countries where it is a preferred treatment option. Various factors, including cultural beliefs, cost, accessibility, and social relationships, influence its utilization. Understanding these factors is essential for developing effective healthcare strategies. This study aims to assess the factors contributing to using traditional medicine in treating Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) conditions among ENT patients in Kumasi. Methods: A quantitative descriptive survey design was employed, using a structured questionnaire to collect data from 166 respondents selected through convenience sampling. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to present descriptive statistics. Results: The findings indicate that cultural beliefs significantly influence traditional medicine, with 84.9% of respondents associating it with religious and spiritual underpinnings. Other contributing factors included cost, spirituality, social relationships, and interactions with healthcare workers. Conclusion: Cultural beliefs are crucial in shaping treatment choices for ENT conditions. Public awareness campaigns by the Ministry of Health and local health authorities are recommended to educate communities on the benefits and risks of traditional medicine while promoting evidence-based healthcare practices
