Abstract

This study aims to uncover the symbolic meanings of two traditional Madurese dishes, Tajhin Sorah and Tajhin Sappar, through a semiotic approach. These dishes not only serve as food but also as cultural representations that reflect the values and traditions of the Madurese people. A qualitative descriptive method was employed to analyze the components of these culinary items, including ingredients, presentation, and associated social practices. The findings reveal that Tajhin Sorah, associated with the Islamic New Year celebration, symbolizes unity and good fortune, while also strengthening social bonds through sharing practices. Meanwhile, Tajhin Sappar, served during the month of Safar, represents a unique blend of local ingredients that reflect the life philosophy of the Madurese community. In conclusion, these dishes are not merely food but also vital symbols in preserving cultural identity and social relationships. The study suggests that a deeper understanding of traditional culinary practices is essential for cultural preservation efforts.

Abstract

Tourist attraction management has several problems that must be considered. The lack of information about halal tourism in Bangkalan for tourists outside the region causes tourists to only visit famous destinations. Tourism management has not paid attention to the development of art and culture typical of the region. In addition, the managers do not yet have a suitable model as a foundation for developing art and culture to increase visitors to Bangkalan halal tourism. This is the main problem in this study. The main objective of this study is to find the best formula related to the art and culture development model to increase visitors to Bangkalan halal tourism initiated by researchers by getting input from stakeholders, namely tourism managers, art / cultural actors, surrounding communities, and tourism visitors, and district governments throughout Madura. The model to be used is the Structural Equation Model. Data in this study were collected through observation (questionnaire), interviews, and documentation. Latent variables considered in this model include Accessibility, Attraction, Amenity, Ancillary, and Tourist Visits. This strategy is handed over to the management of Bangkalan halal tour-ism to be implemented to Increase Visitors.

Abstract

Adaptation is the process of transforming one form of art into another one. Many decent films are adapted from great literary work. In the adaptation process, some changes occur in film. It is because film is produced in different way from novel. This study focuses on the transformation of the narrative elements from the short story into the film entitled The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. This study uses the theory of adaptation by Linda Seger to explain the adaptation process from the short story into the film as the sources of data. There are three processes of adaptation: condensing and expanding the material, the process of making the film commercial, and varied changing. The narrative elements theory is also used to explain the structure that builds the literary work.
