Abstract

Indonesia has been developed in a various ways. But there remains one field in which this country has been kept captive of, namely the field of morality. Morally speaking, the country is not improving, nor is it heading toward the right direction. It is even regressing. The regress of proper moral virtue has made this country lost its very identity and hope. The situation is worsened by the fact that the schools and universities that are supposed to play the central role in moral education have not been effective either. Religion has been presented wrongly simply as a belief system. Its aspect as moral system is partly or completely ignored. This paper is an attempt to explore this abandoned precious dimension of religion and its importance in the process of moral education. We assume that it is only through religion, to be more precise through inacting the religous morality that we can cure the social malayses, and move on with our aspiration and hope.

Abstract

As early as tenth century, Abū Bakr al-Rāzī (d. 925), a notable figure in Islamic philosophy, claimed that prophethood is entirely superfluous, since God imparted the gift of reason to humankind, and reason is enough to guide them. Al-Rāzī’s skeptical view sounds provocative, and thus worthy of further study. However, some other philosophers, like al-Farābī, Ibn Sīnā and Ibn Maskawaih, acknowledge the necessity of prophethood for the guidance of human life. Their idea, though formulated in different reasoning from the one held by Muslim theologians, indicates their acceptance of the authority of divine revelation. On the other hand, Said Nursi, one of the greatest Muslim reformers in the modern time, maintains that since “divine power does not leave the ant without leader, or bees without a queen, it surely would not leave mankind without prophet or code of law.” After all, the order of the world necessitates the existence of the prophets to preserve its solidity. This article will scrutinize more critically Nursi’s idea on the necessity of divine revelation that would enlighten human path to truth, to be compared with some ideas held by Muslim philosophers in discussing the relationship between reason and revelation, and its corollaries.[Filsuf besar dari abad ke-10, Abū Bakr al-Rāzī (w. 925), menyatakan bahwa diutusnya seorang nabi sebenarnya tidak perlu lagi, karena Tuhan telah menganugerahkan akal pada manusia yang akan mampu membimbing mereka.

Abstract

Abstract

The article analyzes the trends and impact of intellectual orientation shift occurring at PTAI recently. The development of Islamic knowledge at PTAI has been facing harder challenge. More intellectual scholars are not really keen on deepening their Islamic knowledge at tertiary education. This is contrary to the religious enthusiasm found in the society recently. There are two religious viewpoint shifts in our society. People are to be more religious by involving in Islamic teachings and halaqah, and, on the other hand, they do not want to be left behind in gaining earthly advantages. Deeping religious knowledge seriously does not attract them; therefore, Islamic study is not improving. Religion is seen as a practical need that can be studied instantly. As a result, people tend to focus on studies that are promising concrete earthly work.  It seems that PTAI has been able to see this social trend shift so as to maintain its existence. As a consequence, orientation shift occurs and enlarged mandate takes place to accommodate them. In respond to it, institution change is a must—from Institute for Islamic Studies to Islamic University. In this instance, efforts have been done to legitimate the change. Eventually, the question to raise is how about the development mission of religious studies themselves then.

Abstract

Abstract

The first verse of Surah Al-Isra‘ reveals the most improbable event in prophetic history that is most difficult for the mind to understand and accept, namely the Isra’ and Mi'raj events of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Traditional transportation at that time did not allow for traveling to and from the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Aqsa Mosque in Palestine, which is about 1,500 km away. However, how do the Mufasir and the viewpoint of science (which prioritizes logic) view this event? This research method uses a qualitative approach, with the type of literature study research. Data collection techniques include literature searches from books, scientific articles, and other relevant sources that discuss Isra' Mi'raj according to Al-Razi's opinion in Tafsir Mafatih al-Ghayb and Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity and Annihilation. The data analysis was carried out using content analysis techniques, in which researchers identified the main topics that emerged from the collected sources. This research found that Allah SWT made the Isra' Mi'raj event of Prophet Muhammad SAW and was not bound by time and space in order to reach Sidratul Muntaha. Isra' Mi'raj emphasizes faith reasoning more. Isra' Mi'raj only happened once in history, and this is a miracle given to the Prophet Muhammad SAW from what was impossible to be possible because Allah's power is limitless.

Abstract

The emergence of Muhammadiyah and Persatuan Islam in 1912 and 1923, respectively, representing the Islamic reform movement in the early twentieth century, constituted a response popular costums. The Islamic religious reforms advocated by these movements encompassed several aspects of life, individual well as social. However, the primary concern voiced by the reformists was with certain theological issues which were essential to the whole movement.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v8i3.682
