Abstract

The effect of fibre reinforcement of polymethyl methacrylate was investigated. Glass fibres have been studied as strengthening material added to polymethyl methacrylate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate dimensional change of acrylic resin plate after glass fibre reinforcement. As a research subject is an acrylic resin plate of 65 × 10 × 2.5 mm with the number of 32 samples were distributed randomly in 4 experimental groups. Each group consisted of 8 samples and control groups. Group 1: acrylic resin plate and 1 sheet glass fibre; group 2: acrylic resin plate and 2 sheet glass fibre; group 3: acrylic resin plate and 3 sheet glass fibre. Control group which was not given treatment. Dimensional change was measured by profile projector. The data was analyzed by One-Way ANOVA and LSD test showed that there was significant difference in dimensional change (p < 0.005). The conclusion suggested that dimensional change of the acrylic resin plates after glass fibre reinforcement minimally done 1 sheet glass fibre.

Abstract

Background: The dentist who handles a broken acrylic resin denture base case will send the denture to be repaired by a dental technician in the dental laboratory. The transfer of work is likely to pose a risk of cross-infection (for example AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and herpes. Purpose: To transfer science and technology based on community needs objectively to get a strong foundation in implementing health management for dental technicians. Methods: Training on how to use disinfection materials as well as participatory counseling using slides through LCD projectors, and using props along with interactive discussions and also mentoring when trainees take disinfection measures. Results: The implementation includes 3 activities, that is counseling, training and monitoring Counseling is carried out by providing knowledge about how to disinfect dentures, then training in how to do disinfection, the way is to train dental technicians to disinfect using chlorhexidine by spraying on the denture surface, then monitored. Conclusion: So far the dental laboratory has not carried out any disinfection at the time of denture repair. With counseling and training in this community partnership program, dental technicians know the importance of disinfection denture to prevent cross infection, so that it will then do it.

Abstract

Background: Sometimes the artificial teeth break or fracture, so then the patient asks the dentist to repair  it. The dentist will then send the denture to be repaired by a dental technician in the dental laboratory. The transfer of work is likely to pose a risk of cross infection (for example: AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, pneumonia and herpes. Objective: To transfer knowledge and technology of dentistry based on community needs objectively to obtain a strong foundation in carrying out health management of dental technicians . Implementation Method: Providing counseling to dental technicians on how to use disinfection materials and using props accompanied by interactive discussion Results: Implementation this programs  is conducted at 2 locations in the city of  Malang and Kediri Counseling is done by providing knowledge about how to disinfect dentures using chlorhexidine material by spraying it on the entire surface of the denture. Conclusion: The counseling activity which was held for a day received good reception from the participants. The dedication report was prepared to be a reference material in raising awareness of t dental technicians who work in dental laboratories to avoid cross-infection when doing denture repair

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Ceramic restorations is divided into two kindsnamelyPorcelain Fused to Metal (PFM) and all-ceramic restorations. In ceram spinell is one of the materials needed for manufacturing anterior coping of all ceramic which has better aesthetic than in other in ceram. Methods which have been done are Conventional Slip Cast by application of spinell paste on refractory die manually and CAD/CAM computer-based technique. The difference of mentioned previously methods is few step-in slips cast methods can be performed only by one step CAD/CAM methods. Purpose: To discover the differences between Conventional Slip Cast methods and CAD/ CAM methods. Review: Application of CAD/CAM methods has few advantages compared to conventional methods. Since few step-in conventional methods can be performed only one step in CAD/CAM methods. Conclusion: In order to shorten the time in manufacturing spinell all-ceramic, the dental technician may use CAD/CAM methods. Few advantages of CAD/CAM methods compare to slip cast methods are not necessary to do die to block out, die duplication, wetting agent spraying, vitasonic and ultrasonic usage, giving border by ink pen for determining application border, preparing spinell paste for coping application. Those steps all can be performed only by scanning, design, and milling by CAD/CAM methods. Besides that, coping result produced by CAD/ CAM methods has good accuracy due to spinell block utilization which has better homogenous composition.

Abstract

Background: Anterior crossbite is a case that when upper anterior are positioned palatally than lower anterior teeth in centric occlusion. Orthodontic appliances using expansion screw could be solution for tooth anterior crossbite treatment. Purpose: To figure out the optimal fabrication process of orthodontic appliances in single tooth anterior crossbite case using expansion screw. Case analysis: Dental laboratory provided the maxillary dental appliance with single tooth anterior crossbite on teeth 21. Dental technician also received orthodontic appliance using expansion screw. Result: Orthodontic appliance design was Adams claps on teeth 16, 26, labial bow on teeth 13, 12, 11, 21, 22, 23. Additional posterior bite plane, also expansion screw was located on maxillary left first incisor, palatal section. Conclusion: Design and making orthodontic appliances using expansion screw begins with drawing design, positioning Adams clasps and labia bow sectional screw mini mounting, then acrylic packing. Final step was finishing polishing acrylic plate.
