Abstract

Today's work scenario is characterized by a fast rate of change, intense pressure, constant decline, changing demographics, increasing use of technology have affected the lives of employees. A person working aims to find life-work balance in his personal life. Work-life balance has implications for attitudes, behavior, welfare and organizational effectiveness. Therefore, it is necessary to have an attitude of appreciation from a sense of diversity towards a religion and one's belief in the existence of God which is manifested by obeying His commands and prohibitions with all one's heart and soul which is called religiosity. Religious activities are closely related to religiosity, not only when performing rituals (worship), but also other activities including work. Thus, religiosity can predict a person's behavior at work. This article reviews the literature on the role of religiosity in the work-life balance domain for employees, which emphasizes the importance of work-life balance supported by the values of religiosity of the employees.

Abstract

This study aims to compile psychological indicators of Panca Jiwa Pondok, build a scale based on these indicators, and assess the values of validity and reliability. Panca Jiwa Pondok referes to the five primary values that form the foundation of character education in Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren): sincerity, simplicity, independence, Islamic brotherhood, and freedom. A deduction technique was then developed from the concept of dimensions to indicators to construct a new scale. The instrument was designed with a religious-psychological approach based on theoretical constructs derived from pesantren values, personality theory, and positive psychology. The trial was carried out on 103 students at the Pondok Pesantren Al-Kamal Gombong in Kebumen, a modern Islamic boarding school with the consistent application of the Panca Jiwa Pondok. The validity test results showed that out of the initial 100 items, 92 items were declared valid based on the Pearson correlation > 0.197 and the significance value < 0.05. The scale's reliability showed high internal consistency with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.925. The results of factor exploration through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) indicated five main factors according to the initial structure, as shown by the scree plot test. This research showed that the typical values of pesantren can be measured in a standardized and scientific manner and can serve as the foundation for developing character assessments based on Islamic values. This instrument is expected to strengthen character education in Islamic boarding schools and serve as a reference for developing psychometrics based on local wisdom.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis has led to increasing academic attention toward factors that influence pro-environmental behavior, including within religious education contexts such as Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This study aims to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of empirical research examining the influence of religiosity and ecological awareness on pro-environmental behavior, as well as the role of social norms as a reinforcing factor within Islamic boarding school (pesantren) communities. The SLR process followed the PRISMA framework, including the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and final inclusion of articles. Literature was collected from the Scopus and Web of Science databases using inclusion criteria that required publications to be internationally recognized, published between 2015 and 2025, relevant to the themes of religiosity, ecological awareness, pro-environmental behavior, and social norms, and employing empirical research designs. The selected articles were analyzed thematically and conceptually to identify patterns of findings, consistency of results, and existing research gaps. Complementing the SLR, this study also employed bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer to map the intellectual structure, thematic clusters, and global research trends related to the topic. The SLR results indicate that religiosity functions as a moral foundation that strengthens individuals’ internal norms to protect the environment, while ecological awareness enhances cognitive understanding and readiness to engage in pro-environmental actions. Social norms, particularly within Islamic boarding school (pesantren) communities characterized by communal and hierarchical social structures, were found to reinforce the relationship between religiosity, ecological awareness, and pro-environmental behavior. The bibliometric analysis further revealed three dominant domains in the global literature: ecological consumption behavior, environmental crises, and reflective ecocritical narratives, which enrich the conceptual understanding of the SLR findings. Overall, this study highlights that the pro-environmental behavior of santri emerges from the interaction between religious values, ecological literacy, and institutional social norms. These findings provide both theoretical and practical implications for the development of more systematic, evidence-based, and sustainable eco-pesantren programs. Keywords : Religiosity, Ecological Awareness, Pro-Environmental Behavior, Social Norms, Islamic Boarding Schools.
