Abstract

This study aimed to determine the results of total tannin content determination of sapodilla peel extract (Manilkara zapota) and the effectiveness of sapodilla peel extract (Manilkara zapota) as a Aedes aegypti mosquito larvicide. The method used was a quantitative descriptive with a purposive sampling method. The sample was ripe sapodilla (Manilkara zapota) peel. The determination of tannin content in sample extracts was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The extraction of tannins from sapodilla peel (Manilkara zapota) was carried out by maceration method using 70 % ethanol. Based on the research results it was found that the total content of sapodilla peel extract was 3,058 mg GAE/g extract. The results of the larvicide test showed that the sapodilla peel extract could be used as an Aedes aegypti larvicide with the most effective concentration in killing 50% of the larvae at a concentration of 20,000 ppm.

Abstract

The primary source of income for the residents of Kenongorejo Village in Madiun Regency is agriculture. The village is situated in a mountainous region. This village produces an increasing amount of agricultural waste due to the abundance of agricultural products. Environmental pollution may result from the amount of agricultural waste that has not been appropriately recycled. Even if part of the agricultural waste has been used as animal feed, the residents of this village still have a concern with the vast amount that has been wasted. It takes environmentally responsible technologies to transform these agricultural wastes into products with a marketable value. The service team's recommendation is to offer training sessions on the production of eco-enzymes, which source their primary raw material from agricultural waste. In order to improve comprehension and abilities in creating eco-enzymes, the strategy employed in this community service activity includes identifying partner requirements, counselling, training, evaluation, and monitoring, as well as post-activity help. The majority of the women of PKK Kenongorejo Village are the main audience for this project. Eco-enzymes, which can be utilised for domestic requirements and sold to the general public as natural cleaning solutions, are the end products of this service activity.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This work examined how to improve Bagasse Fly Ash (BFA) as an adsorbent by immobilizing it with Spirulina sp. biomass to remove Fe³⁺ ions from effluent from physical chemistry laboratories.  A common silica-rich agroindustrial by-product, BFA has a porous structure but little capacity for adsorption because there aren't many active functional groups.  On the other hand, although Spirulina sp. has a lot of amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl, phosphate, and sulfate groups that allow for strong interactions with metal ions, its low mechanical stability and challenging post-treatment separation limit its direct application.  Spirulina was immobilized in a sodium silicate matrix made from BFA using the sol-gel technique in order to get around these problems. This produced a composite that combined the chemical activity of the biomass with the structural benefits of BFA. FT-IR characterization revealed structural changes upon immobilization and verified the existence of functional groups in charge of metal binding.  UV-Vis spectrophotometry at 510 nm was used to perform adsorption tests at contact periods of 15–60 minutes.  In comparison to both Spirulina alone (44.920%) and unmodified BFA (37.038%), the immobilized BFA–Spirulina composite had the best Fe³⁺ removal effectiveness (51.571% at 60 minutes).  Synergistic interactions within the composite are responsible for this enhanced performance: Spirulina offers chemically active sites for complexation and electrostatic interactions with Fe³⁺, while BFA enhances physical adsorption and diffusion through its porous matrix. The outcomes  show that the BFA–Spirulina composite is an efficient, affordable, and eco-friendly biosorbent that may be used to remediate laboratory waste that contains iron.  By converting biological and agricultural wastes into valuable resources for environmental repair, this method also promotes waste valorization.
