Abstract

An earthquake disaster is an event that causes various damage and loss of life. This study aims to determine the vulnerability of earthquake hazards in Bengkaung Village, West Lombok Regency. The method used in this research is the geomagnetic method. The results of this: study indicates the value of the magnetic field anomaly in the range of -1100 nT-1500 nT. 2D modeling with 4 paths shows that the study area is dominated by 5 rock layers with a susceptibility range between (0.013 - 6.21)×10^(-3) in SI, which consists of sandstone, clay, fractured andesite lava, fresh andesite lava. and granite. The highest vulnerability to earthquake hazards is in the southern part of Bengkaung Village, due to the presence of a cohesive soil type (like clay) on the surface of the study area, coupled with the presence of intrusions and faults. Meanwhile, the western part of Bengkaung Village and the northern part of the Bengkaung area have a relatively smaller earthquake hazard vulnerability than the southern part. This is because the western and northern parts have the main layer of non-cohesive soil (sandstone) which has high shear strength and becomes a damper in wave propagation when an earthquake occurs

Abstract

This is a descriptive study aimed at investigating resilience among university teachers, especially in dealing with changes in education policies during the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants in this research were lecturers at the English education study programme at a state university in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The data were obtained through an online questionnaire which was distributed to all potential respondents. Among 39 teaching staff, 26 completed and returned the form. Based on the data analysis it was found that most of the teachers (86.6%) are classified as having high and very high resilience, with only 13.4% having moderate resilience, and none as low or very low resilience. Based on gender, the level of resilience for both male and female lecturers is within the same level of high resilience, with females having a slightly higher rate than males, at 63 and 59.5 respectively (within the range of 17-85). There is an interesting finding on how resilience relates to the length of tenure. Based on this final category, it was found that length of tenure negatively correlates with the level of resilience with tenure group of 1-6 years, 7-21 years and 21 years and above scoring 63.7, 61.7, and 56 respectively, although on average all groups are still categorised as having high resilience. The majority of these university professors also perceive the changing education policy as something inevitable. With regard to how they expect to be helped to better adapt to changes and maintain their resilience, for any new policies there should be clear planning of the policy, proof that they work well (not based on trial and error), early socialisation, adequate training and coaching, and evaluation of the effectiveness of policies being implemented. Keywords: Educational policies, pandemic, teacher resilience

Abstract

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to explore the challenges faced by students in writing descriptive text about local places and to describe how they deal with these challenges. A descriptive method was used, with a writing test and a questionnaire as instruments. From the results of the writing test, the students' scores on the organization aspect were the lowest, which means that students still have difficulties structuring their writing effectively and presenting their ideas in a clear and logical way. It involves issues like paragraph structure, coherence, and transitions between paragraphs. In addition, from the students' responses in the questionnaire, it was found that more than half of the students who participated in the questionnaire section felt that limited vocabulary was their main challenge in writing descriptive texts about local places. This indicates that the students felt that they did not have enough choice of words or phrases to effectively describe the place they were writing about. Moreover, to deal with the challenges, they used various strategies to navigate the complexity of writing about local places. These strategies include thorough observation, pre-writing, revision before completion, seeking examples, seeking feedback from peers, utilizing the power of artificial intelligence (AI), utilizing visual references, and regular practice. In conclusion, the paper shows the challenges students faced in writing descriptive text about local places and the strategies they employed to address these challenges.
