Abstract

The implementation of this Community Service activity is motivated by the problems experienced by partners at SMP Kristen Payeti. The teachers in that school have not been able to take advantage of online learning applications such as Google Classroom and Google Meet. Therefore, to overcome the partner's problems, training was carried out by the PkM Team of Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba, which aims to educate the teachers so that they can increase their knowledge and skills related to the use of the two applications. The training activities were carried out using lectures, demonstrations, and simulations using Google Classroom and Google Meet. While the stages of implementation include the preparation of training modules, preparation of training rooms, and implementation of training. The results of this service activity indicate that there is an increase in the knowledge and skills of teachers as trainees in using the two applications. Thus it can be concluded that the purpose of this service activity has been achieved. The follow-up carried out was to monitor the use of these two applications by teachers in the implementation of online learning.

Abstract

Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba is one of the universities that organizes online learning. This happened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This situation requires all lecturers to be able to conduct online learning by utilizing the available facilities, namely Google Classroom and Google Meet, both permanent and adjunct lecturers. Permanent lecturers have used the application since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, while adjunct lecturers who held lessons this semester have never used the Google Classroom and Google Meet applications. If this is allowed, then learning will not be held properly. Therefore, this training is carried out in several stages, namely analyzing the needs of non-permanent lecturers, implementing activities, and following up. This training makes the online learning by adjunct lecturers can be carried out properly. Based on the results of the follow-up, the participants proposed further training on the use of Google Classroom, especially in making assignment assessment rubrics and quizzes.

Abstract

According to the national examination (UN) scores for Junior High School in East Sumba in 2019, it can be seen that the percentage of student’s math scores based on the comparison of test scores with graduation standards is still very low. In view of the problem, studies are conducted to describe a student’s error, describing the factors that cause students to make mistakes in solving problems, and planning follow-up actions to minimize student errors when operating addition and subtraction of algebraic fraction. This type of research is qualitative approach. The technique of determining the student’s research subject uses the cluster sampling technique with sample 5 students. The technique of collecting data is done by writing tests, interviews and documentary studies. The results showed that according to Newman’s five types of errors, student made 5 types of errors, and the most common mistakes were in encoding error of 1,53%, then processing skill error 2,33%; transformation error 2,5%; comprehension error and reading error 3,1%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe critical thinking skills, identify factors that affect critical thinking skills and recommend follow-up plans to overcome students' low critical thinking ability to complete class VII set operations problems at Waingapu City Junior High School. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data collection uses tests, interviews and documentation studies. The subjects in the study were 30 students of class VII junior high school in Waingapu City. The results found that the average critical thinking ability of students was 37.29 and was in the low category. There are several factors that affect students' critical thinking skills, including lack of relearning of the material that has been obtained, mastery of mathematical concepts, learning interests and students' thoroughness in working on problems. The recommendations of actions taken by teachers are reviewing the basic concepts of mathematics, designing learning devices and training students to work on story problems and learning motivation.

Abstract

Technology adaptation assistance in schools is carried out in the form of applying math teaching aids, namely the Congklak Musi KPK and FPB. This activity was carried out by Unkriswina Sumba students together with lecturers through the Teaching Campus 4 program at Satap Padadita Public Middle School. The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate the use of the congklak musi KPK and FPB teaching aids in order to increase students' motivation to learn numeracy. The result of this activity is that the congklak math teaching aid can be made using used materials, and has been applied in the mathematics learning process in class VII, namely on KPK and FPB material. In addition, students are motivated to learn numeracy by using these teaching aids, and can improve students' ability to solve questions related to FPB and KPK.

Abstract

Choosing the right learning model has a big influence on student learning outcomes. In practice, at SMP Negeri 4 Mauliru they tend to still use lecture or conventional learning methods so that student learning outcomes are relatively low. Therefore, reseach was carried out by applying the Project Based Learning (PBL) model. This research aims to see the effect of the PBL model on student mathematics learning outcomes. Learning outcomes are the entire series of activities that have been completed during the learning process, both directly and indirectly, which are then used as a benchmark for determining the level of success achieved by students. This research is quantitative research with an experimental type using a one-group pre-test post-test design. The population in this study were all class VIII students at SMP Negeri 4 Mauliru and the subjects were all class VIIIC students. The instruments used in this research were a pretest and posttest consisting of 5 questions. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive and inferential analysis. The results of this research indicate that there is a significant influence on students' mathematics learning outcomes using the PBL model. This is based on the results of the hypothesis test which shows that the sig (2-tailed) value is 0.000, which means the value is less than 0.05 (< 0.05), so Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. So it can be concluded that there is an influence of the PBL model on student mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

The low understanding of learning concepts among students in mathematics learning is caused by various factors, one of which is the lack of use of instructional media resulting in students being more passive. The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of implementing a learning model on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a one-group pre-test-post-test experimental design. The study population consists of all eighth-grade students at Anda Luri Catholic Junior High School, divided into four classes: VIII A (29 students), VIII B (30 students), VIII C (30 students), and VIII D (29 students). The subjects of this study are students from VIII C who underwent treatment using the instructional model. The research instrument used is a written test consisting of five essay questions. To evaluate the impact of the instructional model, an independent t-test was conducted. The analysis of the results shows a significant difference, thus supporting the alternative hypothesis while rejecting the null hypothesis. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the instructional model has a significant impact on the understanding of mathematical concepts among eighth-grade students, especially in the topic of systems of linear equations with two variables.
