Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to obtain entomopatogenik bacteria (Bacillus cereus) as a potential biological control of pests Spodoptera litura and determine the morphological characteristics and the potential power to kill isolate B. cereus. Explored endogenous bacteria from 99 soil samples from Minahasa regency, South Minahasa and Tomohon. Bacteria were isolated by selectively using methods Ohba and Aizawa  identified by colony and cell morphology. The results showed that of the 99 soil samples obtained 141 isolates were identified as Bacillus cereus. Screening 141 isolates of the 80 isolates contained S.litura larvae that can cause deadly diseases and test larvae  >50% after 96 hours with a dose of inoculum  1.5 x 107 spores / ml. Isolates that could potentially then be selected based on the pathogenicity then be developed into a biopesticide for pest control S. litura on cauliflower and broccoli plants. Abstract

ABSTRACT Leptocorisa oratorius is one major pest of rice in North Sulawesi. Hence, it is necessary to control the pest. The research objective was to identify and to test pathogenicity of local  entomopathogen fungi which infected  Leptocorisa oratorius. The pathogens were collected through sampling of L. oratorius which had been infected by the fungi in the field. The pathogenic fungi was isolated using PDA medium, identified followed by inoculation for pathogenecity test.  During several sampling pest, it was found that  L. oratorius was attacked by fungal pathogens in the field. The identification revelead that the fungal pathogens were Beauveria sp and Fusarium sp. Both the fungal pathogen produced white mycelium and could only be distinguished using microscope in the laboratory. Result of pathogenicity tests showed that the two fungal pathogens caused different mortality of the L. oratorius. Mortality of  L. oratorius caused by pathogenic fungus Beauveria sp was  30.3% . Whereas, mortality of  L. oratorius caused by Fusarium sp was only 3.33%. Keywords : pathogenic fungi, entomopathogen, pathogenicity tests, L. oratorius

Abstract

ABSTRACTPaddy is the most important staple food in Indonesia, since more than half of the population is dependent on the rice that the paddy plants produce. About 1,75 billion of the three billion Asians, including 210 million Indonesians rely on rice as their primary source of calories. The object of this research is to know the population density and infestation intensity of the paddy bug L. acuta on paddy plants in the North Tombatu, East Tombatu and Pasan Districts of the South-east Minahasa Regency. This research is expected to inform about the population density and infestation intensity of the paddy bug L. acuta in several different places and attempts in controlling it. Results of this research show that the paddy bug has spread in paddy fields over the three districts. The highest population was found in the district of East Tombatu (33,9 individuals / ten double sweeps), followed by the Pasan District (24,1 individuals / ten double sweeps), while the district of North Tombatu had the lowest population (9,2 individuals / ten double sweeps). The high paddy bug population is influenced by environmental factors and farmers’ habits in breeding field paddy plants. The intensity of the paddy bug infestation is already high, so the presence of this pest is highly worrisome.Key words : paddy plants, population density and infestation intensity, paddy bug pest (Leptocorisa acuta Thunb.)

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chrysanthemum or Chrysanthemum marifolium Ramat is one of the types of cut flowers have bright market prospects. As one of the types of ornamental plants, dubbed "King of Cut Flowers" besides having a shape and color which is very interesting, this plant has already started a lot of fans. Diseases that attack chrysanthemum eg rust disease caused by the fungus Puccinia sp. Damage results because this rust disease attacks especially on susceptible plants can reach 100% or crop failure. Rust diseases Puccinia sp. This allegedly carried on planting material (seeds) that has spread to many locations planting chrysanthemums. Tomohon is a center for the production of ornamental plants, especially chrysanthemum in North Sulawesi. Preliminary observations in planting chrysanthemums in Tomohon showed white rust disease. The purpose of this study was to look at and examine the effectiveness of microorganisms antagonistic Trichoderma sp., Pseudomonas fluorescens and Paenibacillus polymyxa to disease chrysanthemum white rust on research was conducted by using the method of randomized block design with four treatments namely A control treatment without application of antagonistic microorganisms, treatment B the application of microorganisms antagonistic Trichoderma sp., the treatment C with application of microorganisms antagonistic P. fluorescens and treatment D with application of microorganisms P. polymyxa. This treatment was repeated 5 times. Rating affected leaves using index calculation disease (severity). The variables measured are severity of affected leaves, leaf number and plant height. The results showed that of some microorganisms are used, equally effective in controlling the disease chrysanthemum white rust is antagonistic microorganism Trichoderma sp. with the value of the average severity of the last observation was 17.71%, followed by P. polymyxa with the average value of 26.78% last severity. Furthermore, the third treatment antagonistic microorganisms do not give effect to the number of leaves and plant height.  Keyword: Chrysanthemum, P. horiana, Trichoderma sp., P. fluorescens, P. polymyxa
