Abstract

Study of language games has widely spread based on the teachers’ experience in facing students’ difficulties in speaking English. Colorless speaking activities, fear of making mistakes, and inadequate of mastering vocabularies are some of the causes. Be a creative and innovative teacher is needed to encourage the students to be more active, confident, and enjoy in the class. Game is believed as one of shortcut that used by the teachers which can attract students’ attention. Well-chosen game is invaluable to help the teacher in speaking class. This study aims to describe the steps and the implementation of adapted game. Also, investigate the students’ perception of adapted game in the EFL speaking classroom. This single descriptive case study was conducted at one of English private courses in Sidoarjo where eighteen Senior High School students in Intermediate level participated as subjects. Interview and class observation were done to eighteen Intermediate students to know their responses regarding to the new adapted game. The finding demonstrated that chess-like game has a great potential to encourage the students’ willingness to speak. The students started to talk, feel relax and provoke a lot likewise all along speaking class had alive atmosphere. This study is not only able to illustrate the positive impacts of using adapted game but also add teacher references in adapting various kinds of passive game in their daily live to active game for speaking.

Abstract

Teaching English seems to discredit literary works status as learning media, even though it has the inherent vigor to increase critical literacy. This is the fundamental case this research envisages to explore how literature as a bridge for critical literacy in the perspective of EFL pre-service teachers. Theoretically, this research is based on the concepts of literature, literacy, critical thinking, and EFL pre-service teachers. This research is a qualitative research. The approach used is a case study. The data in this study are responses or statements taken from several English education students who are EFL pre-service teachers. Data were taken from a discussion forum with 3 pre-service teachers as subjects. They are 7th semester students of English Language Education study program from 3 private universities in Surabaya. The technique of data is forum group discussion. The technique of data analysis is content analysis. From the analysis of the data, it results that the EFL pre-service teachers think that literary works are crucial to take portion because it can enhance the level of critical literacy through critical thinking, creativity, and open-mindedness.

Abstract

Campursari seems to reflect submissive identity, but in deconstructive perspective, the identity is chaotic space. By using postcolonial perspective, this research nails its analysis. The approach used in this research is library research with postcolonial approach. The data are the selected lyrics of Didi Kempot’s songs, they are Cidro, Tatu, Suket Teki, Pamer Bojo, and Sewu Kutho. The technique of data collection is documenting and the technique data analysis is interpretation. The result shows that Didi Kempot’s Campursari songs affirm the submissive way of loving. Cidro represents inferiority, Tatu represents surrender, Suket Teki represents inferiority, Pamer Bojo represents betrayal, and Sewu Kutho represents surrender. Those broken love defines Javanese identity which is seen submissive (dominated), but simultaneously, it also exposes a deconstructive point that loving is releasing, and releasing shows non-dominated side.

Abstract

PowerPoint adalah media yang bisa dimanfaatkan oleh guru PAUD dalam pembelajaran menyimak. Keterampilan menyimak sangat penting untuk anak usia dini karena keterampilan tersebutlah yang pertama kali muncul dan harus dikuasi. Tetapi faktanya guru PAUD di lingkungan KKN-PPM Kelurahan Wiyung-Surabaya belum paham benar pemanfaatan PowerPoint untuk keterampilan menyimak. Oleh karena itu, tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah supaya guru PAUD dapat memanfaatkan PowerPoint untuk pembelajaran menyimak. Metode penjelasan dan pendampingan dilakukan saat pelatihan. Metode penjelasan dilakukan dengan memberikan ceramah secara daring kepada guru PAUD. Sedangkan metode pendampingan dilakukan dengan memberikan arahan cara membuat materi atau kuis menggunakan PowerPoint untuk keterampilan menyimak. Penggunaan PowerPoint sebagai media pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak mempermudah guru PAUD untuk menyiapkan materi dan kuis. Dari hasil praktek, para guru PAUD telah berkontribusi untuk menjadikan pembelajaran menyimak daring yang mudah dan menyenangkan untuk siswa.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan penggunaan dan pembuatan perencanaan administrasi perangkat pembelajaran bagi guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) sebagai media pengembangan profesionalisme pendidik melalui program pengabdian masyarakat. Sehingga perangkat pembelajaran sesuai dengan perkembangan zaman di abad 21 yang menuntut keahlian diberbagai bidang utamanya keahlian digital dan teknologi informasi. Artikel ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode pelaksanaan bimbingan teknis. Data diperoleh dari observasi selama pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan, bimbingan teknis serta dokumen peta konsep yang dibuat dan dikumpulkan oleh para guru sebagai peserta yang tergabung dalam MGMP Bahasa Inggris tingkat SMA di wilayah Surabaya. Pelatihan ini juga sebagai media peningkatan kemampuan sebanyak 40 guru peserta dalam pembuatan perangkat pembelajaran. Para guru telah menunjukkan keberhasilannya dalam membuat peta konsep dan administrasi perangkat pembelajaran dengan baik sesuai dengan keahlian dan profesionalisme. Akan tetapi, ke depan peningkatan tentu masih tetap harus dilakukan terus menerus karena dunia pendidikan adalah dunia pembelajaran tanpa akhir.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal women desires for freedom (without any menace), but she reproduces of male power restraints as it is represented in the drama script of Harold Pinter’s The Room. This research uses Žižek’s critical thinking framework regarding ideology, subject and practice. The approach used in this research is ground theory, the data used are quotations in the script, and the data source is the play script Harold Pinter’s The Room. With interpretation analysis techniques, this research reveals that the great ideals of women’s freedom are fantasmatic. Women’s freedom is an ideological fantasy. This play script reflects women’s freedom but instead explains the reality that they are shackled by patriarchal discourse. Harol Pinter seems to assert male power through the definition of women’s freedom through Rose in The Room. Therefore, the result shows that postmodernist, whose perspective is opposed to hierarchal system, is still trapped in patriarchal perspective AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap hasrat perempuan akan kebebasan (tanpa ancaman), namun ia justru mereproduksi pengekangan kekuasaan laki-laki seperti yang ada dalam naskah drama The Room karya Harold Pinter. Penelitian ini menggunakan kerangka berpikir kritis Žižek tentang ideologi, subjek dan tindakan. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah grounded theory, data yang digunakan adalah kutipan dalam naskah, dan sumber datanya adalah naskah drama The Room karya Harold Pinter. Dengan Teknik analisis interpretasi, penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa cita-cita agung kebebasan perempuan bersifat fantasmatik. Kebebasan perempuan adalah fantasi ideologis. Teks drama ini merefleksikan Kebebasan perempuan tetapi justru menjelaskan realitas bahwa ia terbelenggu oleh wacana patriarkis. Harold Pinter menegaskan kuasa laki-laki melalui definisi kebebasan perempuan melalaui Rose dalam The Room. Dengan kata lain, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa posmodernis, yang notabene menentang hirarki, juga ada yang patriarkis.
