Abstract

The paper attempts to highlight the efforts of C20 community in Surabaya to actively ‘remind’ Surabaya youngsters especially to their own identity as the heirs of Surabaya, which is rich in its coastal urban traditions such as culinaries, buildings, and the plurality of the people. Its base camp, located on Cipto street number 20 (which explains how it gets its name from), is a place to record and publish through activities in public spaces, such as Ayorek.org, a site to gather any facts and values about Surabaya which seem to be forgotten by Surabaya young people. The paper specifically focuses on the way youngsters involved in the community are aspired to (re)capture their identities and find their place in this global world. By doing qualitative research, I interviewed the members of community and was also involved in their activities in Surabaya. It is argued that the community of C20 in Surabaya is filling the empty space left by the Surabaya government in empowering the youth to preserve their own city. C20 is also successful in creating a place for youth aspirations not only to “memorize” Surabaya but also to make Surabaya a better place to live and to be creative.

Abstract

The research aims to develop multi-literacy skills by creating a literary graphic story as a creative and innovative way for English Department students in learning literature. By creating an adaptation from text to picture, students are expected to improve their ability to understand literary works and express their creative and innovative skills. This is a qualitative study implementing the Project-based Learning (PBL) approach in literature class, which aims to produce graphic stories as the output of studying literature. Students do not only understand the literary theories but also make something out of their understanding. The scaffolding instruction method was employed to examine practices of improving multiliteracy skills. A detailed action research plan, including preliminary observation in the classroom, action plan, intervention, and guiding, is applied. The investigation related to the barriers in doing the project is going to be conducted as well. Reader Response criticism is introduced to students in the reading and analyzing stage as a useful method to develop their critical thinking in evaluating the literary works they read. We argue that the students improve their reading skills, writing skills and producing graphic story stories based on their own interpretation of the literary text, which is proven by the summary and conversation texts they produce in the graphic stories. They also develop their creativity by producing images and pictures as the result of the literary adaptation process. There are two significant outcomes of the project: developing literary text understanding as well as producing the original graphic story.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate Wattpad's role in motivating secondary school students to write narrative texts. As an online application, Wattpad offers several benefits for students, particularly those with low motivation in writing due to difficulties learning vocabulary and a lack of ideas or inspiration when composing a narrative text. Therefore, exploring the efforts of students who utilize Wattpad to develop their writing skills is interesting, specifically by using narrative texts as the application's content. This research employed a qualitative case study approach, in which the researcher conducted interviews with three 11th-grade students from SMA Negeri 1 Wringinanom during the academic year 2022/2023. The data obtained from the interviews were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The study findings revealed that Wattpad significantly motivates secondary school students to write narrative texts. The platform aids students in nurturing their imagination and discovering new vocabulary through the narrative stories on the Wattpad application. Furthermore, the study suggests that students with writing talent can further develop their skills on this platform, allowing their work to be recognized and read by a wider audience.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan penerapan Lingkungan Pembelajaran Virtual (Virtual Learning Environment) dalam pelatihan BIPA untuk Tingkat Pemula yang dilaksanakan oleh Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya. Implementasi Lingkungan Pembelajaran Virtual (LPV) tersebut dilakukan dengan menggunakan empat platform sebagai media pembelajaran secara daring dan jarak jauh selama pandemi Covid-19. Keempat platform tersebut adalah media zoom sebagai bentuk pembelajaran sinkronus, serta pembelajaran asinkronus melalui penggunaan LMS Virlenda yang dibuat dan dikelola oleh Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya, media sosial Telegram serta Surat Elektronik atau email. Tulisan ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yakni mendeskripsikan kegiatan proses pembelajarn BIPA secara daring dan jarak jauh. Data meliputi kegiatan pembelajaran yang diolah berdasarkan kategori kegiatan pemelajar dan platform yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran yang selanjutnya dianalisis. Berdasarkan temuan, integrasi LPV dalam pembelajaran BIPA Tingkat Pemula dengan pemelajar lintas negara memberikan tawaran yang menjanjikan bagi proses pembelajaran secara daring dan jarak jauh. LPV menyediakan sarana pembelajaran yang interaktif serta komunikatif sehingga proses pembelajaran bisa berterima oleh pemelajar dimana pun mereka berada. Oleh karena itu, integrasi LPV untuk pembelajaran BIPA bisa menjadi pillihan handal dalam pembelajaran daring dan lintas negara. Akan tetapi, penyempurnaan integrasi LPV untuk BIPA khususnya Tingkat Pemula harus terus dikembangkan ke depannya sehingga cita-cita Bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa internasional bisa segera terwujud. Kata kunci: Lingkungan Pembelajaran Virtual (LPV), BIPA tingkat pemula, virlenda Abstract This article aims to describe the application of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in BIPA Training for Beginner Level conducted by Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya. The implementation of the Virtual Learning Environment was carried out by using four platforms as online and distance learning media during the Covid-19 pandemic. The four platforms are zoom as media of synchronous learning, as well as asynchronous learning through the use of the LMS Virlenda which was created and managed by Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya, Telegram and email. This paper used a qualitative method that describes the activities of the online and remote BIPA learning process. The data included learning activities that were processed based on the category of student activities and the platforms used in learning which were then analyzed. Based on the findings, the integration of VLE in BIPA of Beginner Level learning followed by cross-country students provides a promising offer for online and distance learning processes. VLE provides interactive and communicative learning facilities so that the learning process can be accepted by students wherever they are. Therefore, the integration of VLE for BIPA learning can be a reliable choice in online and distance learning. However, the improvement of VLE integration for BIPA learning, especially for the Beginner Level, should be developed in the future so that the ideals of Indonesian as an international language can be reached soon. Abstract

Penggunaan Sistem Manajemen Pembelajaran (Learning Management System) makin berkembang dan maju seiring dengan proses pembelajaran daring pada masa pandemi yang telah berlangsung lebih dari setahun. Diantara sekian banyak LMS, platform padlet menawarkan nilai lebih yakni model pembelajaran yang interaktif, komunikatif, dan inovatif. Hal ini memberikan tawaran menarik yang bisa digunakan oleh para guru dalam menunjang dan meningkatkan kualitas proses pembelajaran melalui media padlet. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana aplikasi Padlet dapat digunakan para guru sebagai media pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan keahlian membaca (reading) dan menulis (writing) mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris di SMA/K di wilayah Kabupaten Sidoarjo, Jawa Timur. Melalui metode bimbingan teknis yang terencana dengan baik, para guru SMA/SMK di wilayah kabupaten Sidoarjo sudah terlihat mampu membuat, mendesain serta mengaplikasikan platform padlet sebagai media pembelajaran yang handal. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran bahasa melalui media padlet tersebut pada akhirnya mampu meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris para siswa SMA/K terutama keahlian membaca dan menulis dengan baik. Media padlet yang dibuat guru sebagai hasil bimbingan teknis juga memenuhi standar pembelajaran yang baik. Meskipun demikian, penggunaan padlet sebagai LMS ke depannya perlu terus dikembangkan demi memenuhi tuntutan pembelajarn secara daring dan jarak jauh.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan penggunaan dan pembuatan perencanaan administrasi perangkat pembelajaran bagi guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) sebagai media pengembangan profesionalisme pendidik melalui program pengabdian masyarakat. Sehingga perangkat pembelajaran sesuai dengan perkembangan zaman di abad 21 yang menuntut keahlian diberbagai bidang utamanya keahlian digital dan teknologi informasi. Artikel ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode pelaksanaan bimbingan teknis. Data diperoleh dari observasi selama pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan, bimbingan teknis serta dokumen peta konsep yang dibuat dan dikumpulkan oleh para guru sebagai peserta yang tergabung dalam MGMP Bahasa Inggris tingkat SMA di wilayah Surabaya. Pelatihan ini juga sebagai media peningkatan kemampuan sebanyak 40 guru peserta dalam pembuatan perangkat pembelajaran. Para guru telah menunjukkan keberhasilannya dalam membuat peta konsep dan administrasi perangkat pembelajaran dengan baik sesuai dengan keahlian dan profesionalisme. Akan tetapi, ke depan peningkatan tentu masih tetap harus dilakukan terus menerus karena dunia pendidikan adalah dunia pembelajaran tanpa akhir.
